I have a friend called B–, who had the following phone conversation (as reported) with R– a few days ago. I post this here so that if any of you ever feel, or are told that you are stupid, you can return to this post and see that you are at least cleverer than one person.
B– is a well-educated man in his late twenties, and this conversation happened on the day after the US election.
B: So what’s all this fuss about this guy Obama? What’s that about?
R: What do you mean what’s the fuss about?! How could you have missed it?
B: Well, I’ve been in Vietnam for two weeks; I’ve been away.
R: Two weeks? This has been going on for months and months!
B: Why is it such a big deal that he’s black? They’ve had black presidents before.
R: Oh Jesus. I can’t believe I know you. Of course they haven’t had a black president before, you complete wipe.
B: What about Abraham Lincoln?
Pause
B: Hello?
R: Abraham Lincoln. Please just tell me you’re joking.
B: OK, Malcom X. Wasn’t he president?
Someone help him, please.
Coops

ha ha ha… what a tard.
hahaha! *wipes tears away*
That one beats the American tourists in Edinburgh asking “What time does the 1 o’clock gun go off at?’
Not joking!.. its happened more than once! *rolls eyes*
Mother of God! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!
ha! Bless. Mind you, I heard someone outside my office window the morning after the election asking “who won then?”.
Who was it that said…
“Its wicked to mock the inflicted”!

I like him, hook me up with him .. we will have nice dates!
Brings to mind this classic from Failblog: http://failblog.org/?s=geography
LOL Bless his little heart. Silly people are everywhere.
Keep him around for amusement. One day, you will have a problem or crisis that you can’t think your way out of. And there your friend will be with a bit of backwoods way of thinking that will change your entire outlook… or maybe not.
Mensa member he is not
But also, why should we know more about american politics than from our own friends/family/colleagues? Or regional politics?
Maybe those that go on and on about american politics really dont have anything in life anymore to focus on .. or the things more close to home would trigger something for real ..
I agree with you Brainer, totally.
To be fair, this was a more interesting election than usual, and a historical one. Most people I know don’t “go on and on” about American politics but were pretty glued to this one; some even stayed up all night to watch it. I didn’t go that far – nothing disturbs my sleep – but I woke up early to see the result.
Since I was that whole week in Prague on business … alone in an hotel room… stuck with only two english speaking tv channels (BBC & CNN)…
Yes… I was only informed about the new things happening in “the election”…
Thankfully BBC wasn’t only about that (but still a big part was)… so I did find out how dramatically Hamilton won…
And I have to say that I fully agree with Brainer … After seeing videos of random Americans not knowing to show on a map where is Australia … and mixing it with Iraq… I feel offended by the pressure that I have to know so much about them, their culture and history…
There is a certain amount of speculation around the ancestry of Lincoln’s mother. It is entirely possible (especially with the “rules” of ethnicity at the time) that Lincoln would have been regarded as black had his lineage been investigated fully.
