If we had an education system that also focussed on such development areas as emotional intelligence and nlp then we would be in a better more informed place to make decisions about when and if we wish to erase the emotional associations created by challenging, frightening or destructive experiences.
"The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" movie speculated about this idea. It's a sideline Derren could carry out quite succesfully if he needed the extra cash!

I think this new researched drug is stupid and it shouldn't be used. Many things in life are based upon memories, and who would want this done anyways? Just get someone like Derren to help you forget things. I do think that this kind of treatment is interesting, though i dont like it.

Ít's the patients who will have to say eventually if they want/need this type of treatment. Lots of things can be worked through in a normal way, but for some it probably wont work for whatever reason.
I myself dont buy this research right now I have to say.
If it works long term .. side effects etc? If it works on all people.
Nevertheless ... people who have experienced traumatic stuff who can't get rid of them via standard therapies .. can't blame them for desperately wanting a cure. Haven't met those though. Most I know cope quite well with their trauma's. It's the moment itself, when it actually happened .. where the most damage has been done already I guess. Can not be undone.
But it is like I already said .. up to patients in the end, IF it would become available ..

The one tested on human patients didn't remove the memory, just the emotional associations the patient had with it. To me, that seems like valid treatment for things like PTSD.

The one tested on rats, though, that actually erased memory - now that's scary. There's too many possibilities for abuse. For instance, what if criminals obtained the drug and erased their victims' memories?
