The emerging awareness in many segments of society about what is
sometimes called “anomalous cognition” is an interesting development
that seems to hold much promise.
In fact, knowledge about this topic seems to be spreading throughout
the U.S. and around the world.
Anomalous cognition is a term that refers to various kinds of human
perception which can be highly effective and useful in a wide range of
endeavors and activities.
Included under this umbrella term are several human perceptual
abilities and skills. These include, but are not limited to:
Enhanced intuition and instincts
Increased awareness of one’s surroundings and environment
Improved insight into challenges and solutions
Acquisition of information and understanding about remote situations
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines “anomalous” as
“inconsistent with or deviating from what is usual, normal, or
expected – irregular, unusual – of uncertain nature or classification
marked by incongruity or contradiction – paradoxical.”
“Cognition” is defined as “to become acquainted with, know – to come
to know – cognitive mental processes – a product of these processes.”
We may soon need to change the word “anomalous” when referring to
enhanced human intelligence of this kind, because it may no longer be
“unusual.”
It may become very normal and routine for all of us.
In fact, it may be very useful to expand communication and education
about research findings in this area as far and wide as possible, and
in a timely manner.

Hmmm… sounds too much anomalistic psychology which is the study of weird beliefs and magical thinking.. check out Chris French’s group at Goldsmith’s

Why does so much of the credulous nonsense come from the States? It’s embarrassing to be from here sometimes. A lot of the time.
When I look at this article I\’m reminded of Maslows \’Hierarchy of needs\’. Maslows hierarchy said there were a number of mental states people go through to reach personal development. So, for example, at the bottom is the need to eat and drink, sleep, then safety (house) etc. Then as you fulfil these needs you move up the mental states, I guess at the top is eccentricities.
If more people are acting with anomalous behaviour is that a sign of a successful society? Rather than say a third world country where the anomalous behaviour is low because they are concerned with finding food, shelter & safety?
Muara, actually the Brits are just as daft as the US. The last Gallup poll in 2005 on paranormal beliefs found that we are just as credulous… the one big difference of course is religion.

Never read Maslows but sounds quite logic, or better said, I recognize some things. Maybe the term mental is not the same to all people, as some mental states Maslows describes does not feel mental ..
The abilities described in the article are not new. We all have them and use them. Not necessarily on a daily bases. Depends on the situtation and what state a person is in at in that very moment, people around you, age, experience etc etc. I.m.o. that is.
Who is watching when you work it intuitive? Inside your brain I mean .. maybe you other half feeds the so called intuition .. without you yourself sometimes even knowing.
What’s the difference between instinct and intuition ….
You normally will only use it for situations you can’t figure out or where you for some reason can not use your normal way of reasoning. It’s normally when in danger. That’s what it mainly is used for I think. Some like toying it .. bored as they are. But can you denie your reasoning brain half … or do they work together in the back .. without you yourself sometimes even being aware of it ..
Some will see the voice of reason in their mind as not being theirs … as well as some will see emotion in some circumstances not as their own .. oops .. going OT here .. but according to me it is all connected ..
Derren; I feel no shame in saying that I need you!
I need you to do some dates in SOUTH Wales this year – I shall not forgive you if you don’t
Yours sincerely
