Monty Python's "All Things Dull and Ugly"

All things dull and ugly,
All creatures short and squat,
All things rude and nasty,
The Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons,
Each little wasp that stings,
He made their brutish venom.
He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous,
All evil great and small,
All things foul and dangerous,
The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet,
Each beastly little squid--
Who made the spikey urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did!

All things scabbed and ulcerous,
All pox both great and small,
Putrid, foul and gangrenous,
The Lord God made them all.

@Berber:
It seems to me that Christianity splits itself into two sections.

One section attempts to encourage you in by being nice, saying how great things are when you're a Christian, extolling the virtues of eternal life, providing support in the community and so on.

The other section attempts to force you in by threatening death and eternal hellfire if you don't.

At least the former are generally trying to be nice, misguided as they are in their aim. (You don't have to be a Christian to be nice and a credit to the community, which is a line they often blur - but that's beside the point.)

I was once accosted by a few Jehova's witnesses in the street. I didn't want to be rude to them -- they were elderly ladies -- so I stood there for a while as they talked at me (JW's tend to not speak TO you, but AT you, in my experience). Their argument for the existence of God was that the shrubs on a nearby lawn 'were so perfect, each leaf designed exactly how it needs to be'.
I managed to shake them off (missed my subway, though :( ), but when I started to think about what they said, it struck me as supremely ridiculous. If you design something, and it then stays that way, it can never be perfect. Changing circumstances indicate that a shrub that was perfect in the last ice age would be seriously flawed today. The only way things can be as 'perfect' as they are is through trial and error -- the imperfect ones simply don't make it.

So how is a God a more logical explanation than evolution? I don't get it. Simply because you're bribed with the promise of eternal life?

And more ridiculous still -- why send hate mail to somebody who expresses a different point of view? If you are so sure that you are right, why not just laugh and say 'my, how misguided that poor man is'? Telling somebody they'll burn for all eternity isn't exactly going to endear them to your vision.
I wonder if these Christians are acting out because they fear their own doubts, and are thus angered at all that dare fuel those doubts even more...

It's just a few .. lots watch those documentaries as well. They choose to believe but keep up with other things as well.

Maybe he should reply by asking them why they don't give credit to a lot of other things besides God. Or whether their God will approve of them spreading hate ... I myself would not reply to those senders either I guess..

I'm not in favor of any theory so far .. it just will not change life if I adapt to any of those. I'm searching for my own truth as usual.
Well, searching .. soaring and seeing and chewing on stuff, reviewing etc etc .. no answers so far that will do. Which is not that bad .. Life will be there anyway. No matter who created it, how it developped .. it's life as it is right now I have to deal with .. no God nor Darwin will help me there .. The urge to see more than this is not always there, just now and then .. which says it all I guess. Of not such a major importance at all when it comes to living life. Pondering upon stuff can be nice though. Single cell organisms if it needs to be evolution .. but those can be from somewhere else ofcourse .. not planet earth .. maybe we don't come all from the same species .. or some of us dont go back so far .. dna .. reptiles .. insects .. etc etc .. .. maybe all part of us .. or partially part of us ... They don't know that much about human dna yet ... more than half of it is a dark area.
They just started, science .. no wonder.

I'm not a scientist, so I can afford to speak like this. Entertain myself with brainwaves I don't need to proof. We can all follow the same automated systems in our brain ... and come to the same conclusions as many others before us ... the difference is that we will have more fun when searching for stuff ourselves. Those who write about stuff had so much fun with this. Way more than people will have when just reading their stuff. Not that you should stop reading, but be aware of what it can;take away from you ..

Darwin himself said, "I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created parasitic wasps with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of Caterpillars."

Not to mention "I can hardly see how anyone ought to wish Christianity to be true; for if so the plain language of the text seems to show that the men who do not believe, and this would include my Father, Brother, and almost all my best friends, will be everlastingly punished. And this is a damnable doctrine."

BTW I've just started reading 'This Thing Of Darkness' by Harry Thompson, which explores the relationship between Darwin & Fitzroy, captain of the Beagle. Excellent stuff, highly recommended.

Yes the creationists always forget about the nasty things in life. Like ebola, HIV and influenza, these things must have been "designed" as well if they are "created"
