Nature never fails to astound
Was directed to this today. Jaw dropping to say the least. What odds that Derren already has one mounted and posed?

Metanexus Institute

Found in 1997, Metanexus is an institute that is looking to fuse together all belief systems contained within spirituality, religion and science. They fully support the mainstream scientific view of evolution etc. but feel that an incorrect reading of the scriptures means that there is now a gap between science and faith. Attempting to bridge this gap there are a lot of articles that they say promote a “transdisciplinary approach to the most profound questions of nature”.

Prehistoric Inca neurosurgery

The procedure known as trepanation, in which a hole is scraped or drilled in the skull, is an ancient form of neurosurgery that has been performed since the late Stone Age. Exactly why ancient peoples performed trepanation has remained a matter of debate: some researchers argue that it was performed for medical reasons, as it is today, while others believe it was done for magical or religious reasons.
A new study by two American anthropologists now provides evidence that the Incas performed trepanation to treat head injuries; that the procedure was far more common than was previously thought; and that the Incan practitioners of trepanation were highly skilled surgeons with a detailed knowledge of the anatomy of the skull.

Half of Britons do not believe in evolution, survey finds

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me this is not true! I’m utterly ashamed at this headline and if true it should read “half of Britons brain dead or just plain stupid”. Surprisingly this is in the Guardian.
Being a Christian will just get you in trouble!

A Christian nurse from Weston-super-Mare has been suspended for offering to pray for a patient’s recovery.
Community nurse Caroline Petrie, 45, says she asked an elderly woman patient during a home visit if she wanted her to say a prayer for her.
The patient complained to the health trust about Mrs Petrie who follows the Baptist faith. She was suspended, without pay, on 17 December and will find out the outcome of her disciplinary meeting next week.
