Many people have contacted us about certain editions of the Trick Of The Mind DVD having missing commentary. This was due to a format being re-pressed that didn’t contain a commentary whilst it was listed on the sales blurb. Well for those of you who are a little disappointed in this here’s a small ray of sunshine for you.
Click the following links to download the commentary as mp3 files then you can play them on an iPod or laptop or other device whist you watch the DVD in true old school style.
You can download them in mp3 format:
Here and Here.
Update – sever flipped a little last night when it got a few too many hits sorry about that – oh and if there’s anyone from the US reading this – can you let me know why your downloading it?
I must personally thank Michelle for bringing this to our attention and Billie who seems to be the original activist. Thanks people.

You know some of the videos don’t work?
Why not replace them? A part of the DVD is missing.
now seems like a good time to mention that in my “tricks of the mind” book, chapter one is missing…
the first page is chapter two and then about 50 pages in it starts at chapter two again, it’s quite wierd and at first I thought it was one of derren’s tricks lol,
but I don’t think it is, anyone else having this problem?
The audio commentary doesn’t work, but (at least in the one I have) the subtitles are perfectly alright. Select the commentary, switch on the subtitles, easy as pie (or easier, really — pie is a lot more work
).
It’s cool that the audio files are available, too, but if you like to watch your DVDs on the big(ger) screen of your TV, and don’t want to go through the trouble of setting up a laptop or Ipod-with-speakers next to it — well, that’s the easy way to get the commentary.
Leon: It’s not supposed to be printed like that. My copy (paperback edition) isn’t. What edition do you have?
Oh, and look on the bright side: Misprints of books get more valuable in the end, right?
(just have to wait a few decades…)
Oh geeez, in my case the whole book is missing …. Brown towers screwed up here badly for sure!
LOL
We were very criminal…. we just bought one copy (the library of Groningen) and now the whole country can read it ….
I’m not sure what edition it is (it is a paperback though) because literally as soon as you open the cover it says: PART TWO: MAGIC lol
it will always be a mystery
Leon:
1. List book on Ebay for 1.5 times the going price of a normal one
2. Label it as having “double the magic” of usual editions
3. ???
4. Profit
Berber Anna: Belated birthday wishes for last week. Just saw your birthdate on Richard Wiseman blog.
Sorry people – took it down – too many of you rabid lot wanting it. I’ll sort a new server out JUST for these files in the mean time.
I wondered why I’d been ‘banned’ from the sever earlier.
Ah… so thats what crashed the server. *lol*
I’m one of the lucky few that does have the Commentary on the DVD.
)
As for book starting at Chapter 2, very interesting!
xx
Katherine: Thanks!
I’m 26 now, more than a quarter century… strange idea
Got some lovely antiques, good books and wonderful magic props from my family and friends though, so I guess it’s all good
Ben: Same here… I was kind of worried that I might have offended somebody or something, though I couldn’t think of a reason for that. Oh well, I’m glad that the blog is back on its feet, so to speak.
Thanks for saving the day, Phillis!
I had the commentary problem on my DVD, but I fixed it by downloading VLC Media Player and changing the audio track manually on the ‘Audio’ menu. It probably works with any media player that allows track-changing through the menus. The commentary is on the DVD (and it is excellent!); it’s just difficult to access.
I had the track on my dvd then lost it?! maybe it played on an older dvd player I had Im not sure but I tried it many times on various players in recent times and its not there anymore, I then bought another copy because I wanted to hear it again and found the second copy didn\’t have the commentary either
I wasn\’t very happy! I guess at least I can download the mp3 file but its not the ideal fix.
Didn’t even realise that there was some commentary missing, not sure if it is on mine or not. I downloaded it anyway, but now need some software to unzip it, as my free Winzip has expired.
I’m from the US and I have downloaded the torrent, sorry! Commentary is quite funny though, thanks mr Brown nice addition.
I don’t know if there is such a thing as an NTSC version of TOTM1, but if you do have one you’ll probably find that the MP3s don’t match up to the screen very well, due to the format mismatch. The MP3s were all done from the PAL version of the DVD, you see.
Nout sure if this is what your talking about here but do you know that most of the videos on the vidoe page don’t work? Just comes up ‘embedding disabled by request’…
(Or perhaps the bosses have realised that I’m on here instead of working and are punishing me???)
All the videos on that page work for me.
Scrap that, refreshed again on a different PC and now they all gone except for the dawkins interview
All but the Dawkins interview do show up as ‘embedding disabled by request’ once I press play. That’s something YouTube does tend to do with copyrighted material, in my experience. Just double-click on the little video screen, and it’ll take you to the corresponding page on the actual YouTube site, which does work.
This is just weird now! Having an audio commentry of TOTM without the connected visual aid and still knowing the commentry from reading subtitles from the DVD only. And yet I haven’t the means of connecting the two together – Thanks! Still I purpose its better than a poke in the eye!
I am listening to the audio commentary whilst at work. Designing French and German technical manuals which is an odd combination of mixes. And I had forgotten just how funny Derren and Andy Nyman are together. It would be just wonderful, if we could see that chemistry more on screen by working together on a performance. Also I’m reminded of the ‘Smoke’ card trick with Stephen Fry. This is probably the only time I’ve seen Derren’s slight of hand when he exchanges the cigarette for a playing card. And I’m sitting hear wondering… whether or not this was deliberate – Anyone in the know?
Thank you! A very nice thing to find when you are buried in work.
Of course that means I will not be working on my paper, but listening to the commentary. At least they are both about television.
I am Canadian and I will download it because I buy Derren’s DVDs off Amazon to watch on my multi-region player. Make sense?
does anyone else get the not avaliable in your country message when on youtube when looking for Derren videos?
THANK CHRIST !!!!!!!!!!
That’s beenn bugging me for so long! I had to READ, yes READ the commentary on subtitles, very frustrating. Thanks for sortin this out
xoxo
That was a nice listen…am actually impressed with someones perverse tokens of affection (the burping in part 2.3.and 4) hehee
Oh man thankyou. I’m in the us and I get my cousin to bring stuff over and this is a sweet treat. Thnx.
Thank you for fixing the link and making these available! It was far more enjoyable to listen to the commentary as opposed to reading it on subtitles.
And if you’re VERY clever you can overlay the commentary with the actual episodes from the DVD…..

Would it be possible to have the commentary mp3 link working again? It seems so that the DVD’s sold in amazon and play.com still do not contain the commentary track, even though it is advertised and the subtitles trick works.
Thanks!
-Pekka
I’ve updated the links
