SGC – Could your parrots give Frostie here competition on the dancefloor? I think it’s time to aquire some miniature parrot legwarmers and headbands and put them through their paces!
Flapjack, the tiel does do a little dance move. I think he’s displaying, so I try not to encourage it. He is hell when he is hormonal. Both my birds can play basketball, fly to a hand on cue, retrieve, do part of a shapes puzzle, put coloured rings on a peg (the conure has been doing that for longer, so his colour discrimination is better, but the tiel is better at the shapes puzzle) and the conure can roll on cue. The tiel can ride a tiny skateboard when he is in the mood. So personally, I think they are the best birds in the world and could compete with any other parrot.
That is a pretty bird, though. Is it a bare-eyed? I am not good with the various cockatoos, but there’s a bare-eyed in the local pet store I like to visit and talk to.
That bird was REALLY getting into the music, just proves they are smart. I used to have an Avery with 7-8 birds (cockatiels and budgies) it been a while but I had forgotten just how they can make you laugh. Thanks for sharing!
SGC – I asked if your birds could dance… not compete in the finals of the Krypton Factor! Good grief… you parrot fanciers are a competitive bunch aren’t you?
Next you’ll be telling me they’re part time firemen, and they’re working on a unilateral treaty to bring about world peace!
I like to think I have the most AMAZING GIFTED BIRDS IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, you know how it is. In fact, I reckon that I could recreate at least two of Derren Brown’s tricks with them. I am not even joking. Only thing that would hold me back is finding a very small security guard in green, and a very small truck and money box. Not sure about world peace, it took long enough to get them to be friendly with each other, never mind all the nations of the world.
Have heard of those magazines that feature Readers’ Wives, but a website full of Bloggers’ Birds? Is this a first or have the pigeon-fanciers got there already?
And to think this bird could teach a whole group of people to dance. That does it. Next time I see an owl I will fall blindly under its spell of marvellous curiousity instead of just yelling ‘ORLY?!!?!’ at the top of my voice.

I found you guys nother dancing cockatoo that was doing the rounds via email a while back. This one includes screeching, be warned.
To be a real spoil-sport grinch… is it REALLY doing that out of a deep innate desire to shake its ass to some sweet groves? REALLY? Or has it been trained and rewarded for moving about like a mad thing? Hmmm..
@Sally…if you look at the clip SCG gave a link too you can see the woman in the shadow of the wall moving like mad too on the music….so, it is immitation but he kinda enjoys!…thats the point…
I’m not sure it is imitation. And I don’t see Frosty being reinforced in the original posted video. It COULD be imitation, but like I said, I have seen my tiel perform similar dances (not to music, though) spontaneously. For all we know, the human is imitating the bird either for fun or in the hope of encouraging the Snowball’s current behaviour.
The bare-eyed I like to talk to in the local pet store also dances briefly – again, not to music. He sometimes does it on cue, but he seems to have learned the word “dance” in association with movements he was doing by himself that the staff saw and encouraged.
Birds carry out courtship dances in the wild. There’s no reason why these two ‘toos can’t be doing this spontaneously as a self-rewarding activity, which is just fancy talk for “fun.”
The bare-eyed and the two birds in the video are all cockatoos, and my tiel is closely related to cockatoos. I wonder if it’s a ‘too thing?
SGC: “Good morning Flapjack”! I think if you look at the timing of your post it is actually “Good afternoon Flapjack”. Having said that, I agree he is on top form.
SGC – surely if Frostie and Snowball get together they’ll create a cold front!
BTW if you get a whole line of parrots on the dancefloor, could they do the Macaw-rena!
This wasn’t the vid I wanted to show, but it shows they’re smart. There was a much better David Attenborough film of them in New Zealand, the crew had constructed an elaborate plywood box with a portcullis. The theory was that two of the kias would pull the rope to open the hatch and the third one would get some peanuts. It was supposed to demonstrate how Kias co-operate in the wild. In the end they all co-operated by unscrewing all the screws holding the box together with their beaks and dismantling the box to get at the nuts!
It was morning for me, you guys are 4 hours faster than me.
Macaw-rena That is classic. And good call on the kea, those are some kickass birds and that just shows that a parrot will not open something calmly and easily when it has the option of pulling everything apart.
Ha ha, so cute. I want a bird that dances.
wow. They should have entered the bird into \”Let\’s Dance\” instead of Dick and Dom. Far more entertaining …
Robert Webb to win!!!
lol cool,
it made me dance.

Ha HA – nice one SGC. He’s head banging and even has the head gear to go with it.
Glad you like it – please note that not only is he headbanging, he is headbanging to BACKSTREET BOYS. I can’t even do that. This bird rocks hard.
Ain’t no birdie like a Backstreet birdie!
That´s really nice sgc…snowball has a real feel for a beat it´s so funny how he pulls his legs up and he does the “yeahh“ in multivoice over“ too!
Ha Ha!
I dance like that…seriously
That bird is insane! Clinically, I mean…

SGC – if it is a ‘too thing as you say, they’re doing the wrong dance. It takes ‘too to tango!
I’ll get my coat…
LOL. Good morning, Flapjack. On top form today, I see.
We should get Frosty and Snowball together for a dance-off.
It’s on.
