Have you guys tried audible.co.uk ? – this is the service that provides the audio books to iTunes…you can purchase directly from them (having said that, you do need to sign up, including letting them know you’re country you’re in – so there might be a restriction on non-uk residents)…worth a try?
I was so ready to buy these, but as several above me have commented before, the tracks are only available for UK iTunes users. Gah! Is there any way to get around this? I was really looking forward to hearing Derren narrate these
Also, I tried going to audible.co.uk (as Neil suggested), and it redirected me to audible.com where each book was about $8.63 or so. However, upon entering my info and checking out, I was greeted with this digital slap in the face:
“We are sorry but your geographic location prevents us from selling you Hypnosis: Tricks of the Mind. We have removed the item from your cart.”
WHAT! Talk about pulling the happy rug from under my excited expectations. At this rate, I’d have better luck hunting Derren down and having him read the book to me in person… by a fireplace, of course.
fantastic! hideously, i was struck by an eye condition half way through reading this, one which prevents me from finishing it… so hurray! especially for hearing it in db’s dulcet tones!
Had hoped for ‘Disillusionment’ and some debunking of mediums and pseudoscience. Never mind, I will start with ‘Hypnosis’ as judging by the Enigma poster is seems advisable to swot up on this. So, if you see me wandering around town in a trance with my iPod on you will know I have succumbed to His voice.
I wander round in a trance with my iPod on ALL THE TIME and I’m listening to an atrocious mix of music including Black Eyed Peas and Rage Against The Machine. If you start skewering yourself or throwing people into lakes, then we’ll know it’s the audiobook.
Anoushka, I hope that eye condition isn’t permanent, that’s terrible.
All – sorry for the bum steer – I was hoping you could get round iTunes by using Audible…This is the sort of thing that annoys me, you’ve got paying customers waiting, and (not suggesting anyone on here would, but…) it encourages illegal file sharing. Can’t see why they don’t release to a global market simultaneously…
I’m just guessing here, but they probably need to pay a fee to publish on paper or electronically or on DVD in different countries. If they don’t think they’ll get a good return out of doing so, they’d be nuts to waste funding on it.
Writing from the US. I too tried iTunes (fyi buying a gift card doesn’t work) and audible.co.uk to no avail. I hate to be the guy that says this but torrent sites have none of the regional hang ups that these vendors do. Nudge nudge, let’s get this audio book up at the US iTunes store before US fans no choice but to find it some other way.
Another US’er… tried to purchase them with my AMEX and iTunes UK wouldn’t allow me.. they said that payment ‘was not accepted..” even though that same card paid for many a pint in London.. hmm.
I just this minute got handed the real live book. The solution is this:
1. Have your company employ a British.
2. When your new British goes home to London for a long weekend, give him the book title and beg him to bring it back.
3. Cheer like a maniac when he returns.
It works. Alternatively, there’s Ebay. I still think iTunes and book publishers are the ones to shake the fists at here. I bet their fees are extortionate.
I would purchase these were it not for the fact that they each cost almost as much as the book itself.
It’s great to hear Derren’s voice and all but the book has a lovely big picture of his mug on the front, which is just as good.
There is money sitting in my iTunes account just waiting to buy all three of these. What a complete mind-numbingly ridiculous idea to only offer it to people living within a specific geographic-location… Digital downloads should have nothing to do with geographic areas as it only limits sales of virtual information; and last time I checked, computers and the internet happen to also exist outside of the UK, didn’t you know? Yes, so you have one month, starting today, to at least make it available to countries that speak the language of the recording, otherwise I’ll yet again obtain Derren Brown’s media illegally, at which point I’ll consider Derren Brown an economically and intellectually self-defeating individual… Good luck with that, ok.
well, agree a bit there…also the payment methods should be expanded on organisations like itunes or amazon or booking agencies etc and the like….it´s silly to have just one payment method……btw @francis …i dont think it´s derren you should blame here….
You’re so wrong, Marie. I take my previous comments back. It has nothing to do with any logistics like distributor or publishing fees or whatever. It’s all down to Derren Brown, he has taken time out from siccing zombies on people to personally make the decision to only sell things to British people in Britain because he doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to grasp that the rest of the world has internet now. Why stop at illegal downloads? Write an angry letter to Channel 4, and insult his parrot. You have one month, Mr Brown, or the bird gets called a feather duster.
Seriously, I know, it’s really frustrating. I’m out here in non-UKland too. You can keep an eye out on Ebay, it won’t help with the audiobook but you can get the book itself and various DVDs on there. Look on the bright side. The day Derren Brown breaks into the North American continent, nobody will have been able to buy his DVDs or his book so they won’t know who he is, and he will probably cause hilarious chaos because people just won’t know what to expect.
ACK! I’ve been eagerly awaiting the audiobooks, but being from Canada I can’t buy from the UK iTunes store!
Any suggestions–or plans to make these available in Can/iTunes or Audible or somewhere?
You had to post this 3 hours after I used the last of my birthday tokens on I-tunes. I’m really miffed now…
so sorry if I appear dumb but are these excerpts from tricks od the mind distilled or new works?
Amanda: I believe they’re audiobook versions of the corresponding sections in Tricks of the Mind.
Argh, I have the same problem as Catharine – they only seem to be available in the UK iTunes Store!
Hope we can soon buy them in other stores as well…
