The home of Bill and Melinda Gates is a technological marvel by all accounts. Here’s one description:
Lights would automatically come on when you came home. Speakers would be hidden beneath the wallpaper to allow music to follow you from room to room. Portable touch pads would control everything from the TV sets to the temperature and the lights, which would brighten or dim to fit the occasion or to match the outdoor light.
But are some gadgets that are strictly prohibited from the Gates mansion. Melinda Gates, in an interview with Vogue, says:
There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household. But iPods and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids.
Poor kids are stuck with stinky Zune players and phones running on Windows Mobile. Unlucky. Even Mrs Gates admits she’d kinda like an iPhone really.
Every now and then I look at my friends and say ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone’
We’ve all been there Melinda.

why is the iphone/pod a rival make of microsoft? Ah screw rivalry why doesn’t she be a reble and treat herself.
Heh, doesn’t mention that they don’t buy their children Mac’s
I love my iPhone even if it’s not as powerful or feature packed as other phones around, when it comes to my Phone I enjoy the simplicity it delivers. I couldn’t stand that on my home PC, far too restrictive, but a phone is made to be simple, to do things quickly on the go, and the iPhone does that really well.
They could always compromise and by a creative zen. Then they’d have a decent mp3 player, but not one from apple.
It just sounds like sour grapes to me… just accept it, PCs outsell apple macs, but there’s no getting round who the market leader is in MP3s. Couldn’t he just be a good sport about it and allow them one minor victory?
