This is old from 2004 and I stumbled across it and it made me think that whilst this guy was nuts, he clearly made his mark on history in a truly unique way. What do you think it was that made me think “Go on lad!”…?

Wow what a hero. I think it’s sad that he had to take his own life to achieve his goal, but I suppose it was better than the alternative.

Destruction of buildings with “steel-plated monsters” is inherently fun, you know that Derren. He’s actually living out those wistful, destructive role plays of childhood (and, apparently, beyond!).
It’s also a bit Nitzschean I think. Let any great show or grasp at meaning triumph over the usual mundane, empty drivel of urban life. The revenge-seeking, half-crazed welder storming the town in a mad rage and a purpose-built big 60-ton bulldozer offers a lot more meaning than a triumph of public orderliness and precision (the police). Boo to that crapiness!
I’m glad the town was saved… but now I know he killed himself, I wish he’d had more luck with his building-flattening. What a great way to go!

I would have felt that way once. Now, I just see him as a sad & tragic fool in pain, & pity the residents of that town who have to live in the aftermath of his indulgent selfishness, while sympathising with the pain which must have driven him to it, unabalanced or not.
The complexities of any persons’ life shouldn’t be simplified into ‘sticking it to the man’ or One Man Vs. The Cops, Hollywood-style. He was deeply hurt by loosing his business & committed an action which could have had a similar consequence on others. I pity him but do not condone him.

Yep, that worked up can get people for sure due to those stupid law systems as well .. and also, what happens when media comes in to put the focus on those .. then everything can be changed all of a sudden .. or when you’re a vip or such ofcourse … it’s the same here with those things .. I’ve done many of these things already in my imagination .. nuked them .. bombed them .. shot them … Instead I’ve been sending them letters . at times very blunt .. nope, wont do me good in the end either, but if you know it wont change anyway … publishing this stuff in newspapers is not that bad either to get it in the open .. sometimes those local governments and such dont work according to national rules at all … they hope the locals dont dare to see to it .. or dont know enough about it, or have a lack of money to sue them … criminal bastards .. that’s why killing them is not such a bad thing. Not their building, them … they do the same to many people’s privae lifes .. not their responsibility they say … my ass .. they could have signalled a few of those things to the higher authorities .. (the ones that indeed only followed rules but knew that they did not work out correct) to see to that change. It happened here very nearby not too long ago .. media attention solved the problem .. criminal bastards needed to get out of local government .. they really misused people’s inside to put them inside a corner .. not laws .. which is not common here … just here and there …(ofcourse .. commercial business is different … all over the place there … unfortunately).
ha i saw this guy on tv the other day – like an hour long thing on it. i fuckin laughed my ass off. this guy is such a psycho, and after he was knocking everything down and shot himself they show the inside of it and everything. it was so insane, there were like mounted chainguns, monitors all over and shit, mad ammo. and he was in there under like 2 cars worth of armor. its seriously something off a video game – twisted metal or something. so fucked up!
