The animal threw the missile from the top of a tree after becoming frustrated with his tiring labour, according to reports. Leilit Janchoom, 48, had employed the monkey to pick coconuts which he could then sell for around 4p each.
The animal – named Brother Kwan – found the work tedious and strenuous but Mr Janchoom refused to let him rest, dishing out beatings if he refused to climb trees. It is believed that the monkey eventually snapped, and targeted his owner from a high branch with one of the hard-skinned fruits.
Mr Janchoom, from the province of Nakorn Sri Thammarat in Thailand, died on the spot after being struck by the coconut, according to reports in a local newspaper. The dead man’s wife said that the monkey had “seemed lovable” when they bought him for £130.

Can’t understand the mentality of people who beat animals.
“The dead man’s wife said that the monkey had “seemed lovable” when they bought him for £130.”
That would be because he was lovable until they started treating him like their personal slave and beating him when he didn’t meet his coconut quota. That’s what you get when you don’t allow 15 minute coffee breaks and pay your workers peanuts!
Have these folks never seen “Spartacus”?
He would stop being “lovable” anyway. When people talk about animals being “lovable” they usually mean docile and nearly as compliant as a stuffed toy. With the previous story about the monkey beating his trainer, this brings it to positive reinforcement-based training: 2, dominance-based training: 0.
Well done that monkey!! I’m so proud of him.
So what they told us at Sunday school was true – you should never spank the monkey!
(Sorry, my resistance to dubious innuendos couldn’t hold out for two monkey abuse stories!)
the monkey in the picture is frightening me!
For crying out loud, Flapjack, this is serious business. Are you totally bananas or something? Quit monkeying around.
I’m not in favor of monkey labor either, but dont they beat horses as well, in western civilized world .. just for fun, as racing and such are not really that usefull in the end. And break their legs in thos cross country races ..
hunt foxes .. etc etc … Spank their dog because it will not jump through hoops, or is a bit too happy to see new visitors (and pees all over the floor) …
I wonder about the monkey story whether it is all true. It does not sound too serious. Beating monkeys is not a good way to train them to do little things like picking coconuts. He/she at least gets to climb outside on a daily bases. His owner most at least has done something to get him to pick those coconuts for them .. if the story is true. Animals abusers would not call them loveable at all .. no way. Usefull perhaps. But not loveable.
If the story is true the way it is stated here and they really beat the monkey … disgusting for sure. A little spunking if it bites, that’s a whole different thing. Not beating them up, but make sure that they know that biting is not allowed.
I love monkeys, but prefer them in the wild. However cute I find those little chimps .. (I dont want a human baby, I want a little chimp .. they are so adoreable .. can’t get over them .. )
I love that monkey he is my hero of the day!!
That monkey is magnificent! I want one. I could make my monkey do my vector calculus for me. But I’d treat my monkey. I’d give him a neck massage if he were tired and I’d make him banana milkshakes on his study breaks. Me and my monkey would co-exist quite happily.
what a brilliant monkey!
