I’m personally not completely up to date about this particular issue but it seems like it will be a very hotly debated issue. The above footage is from the US but features Christopher Hitchens from the UK.

DISGUSTING! What has the world come to!?
I am a Christian and I believe anyone has the right to criticize anything they want to, including religion. I might not like it if you criticize me, but you have that right!
What’s next? Thought control?
@ Diana = Epic Comment Win.
Glad to see there are some sane religious people in the world
Blah… I see this as a step towards theocracy. I could not believe this at first but… seems true enough.
It is this sort of thing that horribly tempts me to write another book on the way we think (I was on my second draft of my first book but decided not to get it published, and it was a study guide for students… that was extremely against schools). If I get my message out… maybe everybody will be a little kinder to each other. I dunno..
Just think… if we all knew how our brains really worked, based on belief, emotion, imagination, learning and suggestion, we’d ALL see society’s problems differently… and maybe eliminate society entirely.
Maybe we have to pull the secret’s of illusion and magic from the other side of the wall and give them to everybody in order to save ourselves?
I need a hug
I’m worried
I thought the UN was set up to prevent this kind of facism… funny how things get hijacked like that. Let’s hope it doesn’t pass this resolution.
I agree with Diana also. Everything should be questioned and criticized to a degree but I guess it’s how far you take it as *too* far can be unhealthy and dangerous. Freedom of speech is something that should not be taken away.
I’m beginning to worry about telling people I’m an atheist. Are they gonna burn me at the stake?
The clip is indeed a bit old, and I believe current activities in Durban indicate that western countries aren’t going to accept this nonsense without a fight.
Incidentally, I understand Christopher Hitchens is a recently naturalised US citizen.
Pat Condell sums it up perfectly in his latest video called ‘Free speech is sacred’ on YouTube, for some reason this blog won’t let me post any of the links to it but it should be easy to find. It’s on Dawkins website also under Latest News.
Try again…

Ah, clicking submit doesn’t work but hitting enter does… :~
What is more disturbing about this report, is the fact that it is heavily slanted towards what an outrage it would be to not be able to criticise Islam. Is this serious journalism? Why single Islam out, what about Christianity? What about Judaism?
This report is scary on so many levels.
If this is adopted then the fundamentalist win.
Any group that states, “You dont like what we say then we will kill you” will be able to do what ever they wish in the name of Islam.
Is Islam so fragile that they cant take a robust argument? Are the followers of Islam so weak in their faith that they cant join in a debate without protection of an overwhelming law?
The UN should keep its nose out of the basic human right of free speech and try to get those countries that signed up to this piece of nonsense to employ basic human rights for their people!
The UK has strong enough laws to protect those who have truly been discriminated against…Don’t let this nonsense be imposed.
If this ever came into law I would be the first to break it and take an argument to the high courts.
UN you are pathetic!
@Dominic Coke
The UN resolution states that Islam cant be criticised specifically. Although it does say all religions, it singles out islam.
Dominic,
I can’t speak for all Christians or Jews, but I can quite frankly say, if you criticize me or my faith, I may become upset, but I won’t seek you down, rape your family and kill you in front of their eyes.
Why am I so bluntly brutal? Because sadly, in the word today, that is what exactly happens. That is why the report focuses on Islam.
Jesus Christ almighty God in heaven …I would be in soooo much trouble…
Guys, this passed:

This is really, really bad.
Things should only be crimes if there’s a victim, and blasphemy would be a victimless crime.
Im studying on this topic and I happened to come acrossed this page. From what I\’ve seen, only Islams and Christian Pastors are for this (Pastors that I saw only wanted to keep the mouths of athiest shut which is wrong to think) and those against it are most christian, athiests, and pretty much the entire world. I\’m still doing some research so maybe I\’ll check in another day… =^_^=
