OK I’ve had this request sent to me, and we all have to admit – without Paul Daniels there would be no Derren Brown. Now before you all jump to conclusion that PD is DB’s father – relise that when Derren was still a glint in the milkman’s eye Daniels was performing what was considered at the time groundbreaking work. The young Derren like many of us in our 30′s grew up with this man on TV and helped fill our houses with magic (we didn’t have much choice with only 3 channels as well).
So go vote to bring Paul Daniels back for a 1 off show because wether you like him or like him not a lot we could all do with a bit more magic on TV. The petition has the full backing of DB, Coops and all the other scallywags – go sign it now.

In about 2001 I had the pleasure of Derren’s company when we went with our mutual friend Jonathan to see Daniels live on stage in Rickmansworth. (i like to think the journey there and back in my death-trap home-chopped convertible mini gave them both a taste for death-defying stunts
. It was a great evening’s entertainment! Does he still have the magic touch? He must be getting on a bit now. Love to see him perform again tho! Childhood icon

Yes we want him back. But the TV people will probably try to change his image, and it won’t be the same – How can it be?
Last time I saw him, he was pretending to be Derren on a Tesco insurance ad, planting ideas in the minds of the viewing public about which insurance to buy with a mixture of psychology, misdirection, suggestion and showmanship
I think we could arrange this as a sort of cultural exchange… Derren gets to spend a week of sawing the woman in half with the assistance of the lovely Debbie Mcgee!

I had this idea about a month ago. Someone has been tapping into my brain and taking the credit for it.
95 signatures now. I met PD briefly. Thought he was a funny chap – charming and cheerful. (Mind you – I only knew it was him afterwards when a voice wispered in my ear “Ah! Do you know who that was!?”) Never seen him perform though – believe it or not.
I believe that he never should have been taken off the TV- his shows used to get millions OF VIEWERS that would now make the likes of programmes like eastenders green with envy- his faux transatlantic accent would get on my nerves soemtimes when he used to put it on- but on the whole he was a very good magician.
