SGC- I’m ashamed of myself, so don’t worry about it! I just thought it sounded a million times more likely than “pants eating mud”.
I already have friends in Canada and it does sound like a cool place. I’ve never met a Canadian I didn’t like… they tend to come over here to animate stuff.
Derrenphobia is totally rational though… it’s that nightmare sensation that your standing in the middle of a level crossing after the lights have changed and you can’t move your feet. Other symptoms include narcolepsy whenever you answer a ringing payphone!

Flapjack, why did that even jump into your mind? Of all the things that went through my head when I read that story, that did not occur to me even once. Should I be ashamed of myself, or ashamed of you?
I do not kow about the US, but people in NS, Canada love anyone who is vaguely British. On the other hand, the population is pretty small. I have helped out with the marketing effort by making my workmates fear the name “Derren Brown” thanks to helpful clips on YouTube.
No seriously, one of them practically has a phobia now, thanks to that zombie thing. I told her there was a disclaimer somewhere, but she didn’t care.

Rob, I think Derren is a charming performer. However to make the transition to the states will take some work. I’m not sure how the bible belt will take to his views on religion. He may need to “water down” some aspects.

I think he also runs the risk of falling into the category of “weird, British, goth, eccentric magician.” I think he will have to carefully market himself in order to get mass appeal. Rather than just catering for people that are into sci-fi and magic. However his “Britishness” can also work for him. I can’t think of any really famous British illusionists in the U.S that I know of.

One other obstacle I think may hinder him, is that the American people will instantly think he’s a fake, and that he uses stooges and scams etc etc.

Other than that, I think the U.S can be his oyster.

SGC- That’s not pants eating mud! Those firefighters fell for the most shameless chat up in the book…
“Oh please, someone call me some hunky rescue workers, I’m sinking in mud! Oh… what do you know, the ‘mud’ removed my pants, this is SOOO awkward, can I borrow yours? Are you single?” etc. etc.
I’ve seen it a thousand times… well not “seen it” as such, I meant to say… erm… yeah…
Canada’s such a great place isn’t it?
