I think this version explains the anti gay marriage point of view far more accurately than the original.

A storm coming !!…….this is a joke surely, if not, what a total lot of 'bollocks' this is. It’s also a blatant exploitation of the wonderful ‘You Tube’

Siobhan……When my mother found out (by accident) that I was taking the ‘pill’ she reminded me that ‘the pope’ doesn’t agree with any form of birth control whatsoever. I then asked her if he would be willing to help me pay my mortgage and support my child if I got pregnant. As you can imagine, that marked the end of my catholic upbringing and life as I knew it....

Ed- so by that rationale, you'd feel quite comfortable with being labelled as 'abnormal' as opposed to 'something bad', and think gay people just don't get it? Did I miss your point somewhere?
Sorry to get pedantic about semantics here, but you seem to have a pretty shaky grasp of the concept 'loaded statement'.
'Abnormal' is how you describe a tumor you want removed, or the freak offspring of a cockroach and a naked mole rat. It's not a term of respect or endearment. If you still can't see why that's such a problem, try describing your friends and work colleagues as abnormal to their face and see if they still want to be your friends afterwards.
When you use gay as a pejorative term, that's how it comes across.

I'm so glad you've picked up on this Derren. It turns my stomach that these people are allowed to get away with this. We should all be able to do something to stop them, but I just don't know where to start.

Josh - when I was one, fundamentalists had pretty strict teachings (based on Ephesians 5, Genesis and various other texts) about man's role and female's role. They are suppsedly 'different but equal' but I would argue they're not very equal. the man is the head of the household and the woman should 'submit' to his leadership.

Of course, all marriages are unequal and gay marriages and relationships are no different. The difference between gay marriages and certain fundmentalists teachings on marriage is that in gay marriages the inequality is not based on GENDER. One might be stronger or better at cooking or more dominant or whatever, but that role is determined by who actually IS more dominant, not by some gender role crap about how men 'should be' the dominant ones.

People don't use the word gay for 'something bad'. When people say something/someone is 'gay' they usually mean abnormal. Is there anything wrong with that?

Although, perhaps, the way gay people interpret it is what matters not what it was meant to infer. Any thoughts?

My family for the most part are open minded, inteligent people, but I have a sister who disagrees with gay marriage. She apparently doesn't mind the idea of "civil union's", but the word "marriage" bothers her. When I pressed for her reasoning behind it (and we got past her saying that marriage is a term relating only to a man and a woman and me explaining that that is exactly the point of changing it to be more inclusive) she said it was because straight tax payers would have would have our tax money rerouted to pay for the marriages (I'm guessing she meant that in regard to judges being paid via tax money, but...nonetheless...). So, you can imagine the ease of the obvious retort being one to the effect of pointing out that gay taxpayers money has been going towards straight peoples weddings as well. Not sure she changed her mind though as I'm quite sure her dissention comes from an emotional place rather than a logical one. Just thought I'd share.

Oh...one more thing...just yesterday I saw a woman wearing a t-shirt that I chuckled to myself about. It read: "Marriage is so gay"

Hugs!

Tash - I think the whole storm thing is simply a very ham-fisted way to manipulate emotion, such as you get in Disney feature films where bad things happen and suddenly the skies darken and lightning flashes.
Otherwise they might just be those kind of Evangelical fundamentalist types who think that every time gay people do gay things god sends a tsunami or a hurricane or a tornado etc. Strangely they never interpret it as god's animosity towards themselves when these things happen to their own churches, as was the case in New Orleans, where churches got flooded out but the gay district was largely unscathed! Weather to a fundamentalist is seldom due to atmospheric pressure or the gulf stream, there's always got to be an alterior motive!
