Maybe its some innate part of our brain that is seeking the thrill as the convenience lifestyle takes its toll. After all throughout history as a race we have had to do some pretty death defying things to survive; hunting, running away for bigger animals and trying to avoid being the one they sacrifice into the smoking volcano. So what better way to pay homage to our four fathers that jumping into a smoking volcano... long live the adrenaline junkies!!!

hahaa i love the piccie that´s brilliant...

I remember last year entering a mile high swing, that went up in the air really high and wasn´t even that save...you just sit in a little basket! with a small chain that high....i thought i was going to die!....yet, the curiosity of the sighting i got (looking over the rooftops of the city)from that level of life made me forget the fear,... and a few days later was persuaded to go again so...

each to their own rush i think...

The efects of an adrenalin rush are pretty well documented, Nopke. If you aren't doing any thrilling activities, what are you doing that gets you thrilled or excited (no not like that)?
I'm not saying you need to hurl yourself off a moving train, though. You can get a rush from all sorts of physical activities. I want a skateboard. I have forgotten how to even ride a bike, though. Skateboards are probably harder.

And THATs been published in intelligent life .... hmm ... those dont seem too intelligent ... LOL ...

I personally dont need fear or thrilling activities to feel alive.

Whatever gets/makes them happy I'd say ... but what's next ... how far will you go to get your kicks?

My mum spent my pre-teen years from the age of about 6 telling me all the horror stories which hit the headlines about fairground rides that went catastrophically wrong... the crushed bones, the people shoveled into bodybags like so much chunky salsa, the rollercoasters which left the rails, you name it, she had the horror story to match.
It didn't help she was a staff nurse at St Richard's hospital with a hotline to the casualty department.
As a result of this I developed a phobia of adrenalin rides which I've only just about kicked. I literally imagined every ride I got on was a suicide bid. My friend finally forced me to go on every ride on Blackpool pleasure beach, and the fact that old ladies of 90 were getting off "the big one" [the tallest rollercoaster in europe] with smiles on their faces eventually shamed me into action.
That said there was still a scary point of about 15 seconds duration on the waltzers where the centrifugal force on my diaphragm prevented me from breathing!

Oh yes, we Kiwis love jumping off things, climbing up things, abseiling down things, swinging off things, skiing down things (mainly active volcanoes), walking up things, rafting over things, and err..swimming, kite-surfing, water-skiing at some dangerous beaches, some of which end in tragedy because sometimes people are a little too daredevilish.

I have a theory that all this adventure is because we don't have many deadly animals/insects/things around (unless you count Black Sheep and politicians) so we have to seek out other things to scare us. It's what our tourism industry relies on, and we love tourists!

That trapeze sounds awesome and I want to try it.
This article is bloody brilliant. What is it with people spending all their time on the couch? If you are not doing something awesomely exciting, what are you doing? Sod all, that's what. People should have more adventures.
