I’d prefer to an incomplete human than a complete and utter cock who covers up the activities of a child abuser.
What a nob
Because of his comments I’ve signed the petition against him getting a peerage:

Can I point out that being a human is a matter of biology and nothing more. Black, white, brown, man, woman, gay straight, atheist, hindu, muslim, jew, christian, buddhist, tall, small, fat thin, blonde, brunette, redhead….doesn’t matter hat you look like or believe you are 100% human being!
This is a typical myopic nonsense from a religion that is centuries behind the zeitgeist.
Get you head out of you cassock and take a look around you feckless, insularly, absolute horror of a so called intellect! You have no basis or experience to comment on such things so go back to your little church in Rome and let the rest of us actually live life!
BTW how irish a name is that??!
What an outrageous and offensive statement. If being human means being akin to him, and finding delusional rubbish about an omnipotent bearded bloke in the sky socially acceptable, then I’m quite happy to be sub-human, thanks.
Haha! That’s funny!
Being human is over rated then!
I bet ya he’s shaving himself there
lol
Now the next step … we are the gods ourselves in our own world .. we don’t need one up there who takes full responsibility for everything … to who we need to go back to after having seen to our sins down here … We do it here, learn here and earn here. Once you know it is in yourself you become more humble than ever and realize why you don’t need a god somewhere else.
The search for meaning and transcendency doesn´t only belong to the religious….how dare he asume that?…that´s a bit ignorant isn´t it.
If anything I would say we are more Human (us non believers) as we appreciate life more and the things that are in it, as we realise that not all life will be here to stay not even us, so we have to grab the moments. Unlike them who stay in their cold churches waiting for a better life, which I presume would be doing more of the same. I didn’t become an Atheist until reading Derren’s book, a while ago, but I have never felt so sure about anything in my life.
Is it weird that my first thought at that title was “cool!”?
I’m half squirrel myself.
And from the looks of him, the good Cardinal might be genetically spliced with a potato!
BTW, what’s happening off the lower edge of the picture at 0.09? Looks dodgy to me…
“…the search for transcendent meaning…”?
You can keep your narrow-minded gods. I’ve got art, music, literature, physics and the wonder of the cosmos – all the awe-inspiring transcendent wonder I can handle, thanks.
So this chap, who has pledged never to have a proper relationship with another human being for his entire life, thinks that people who don’t share his belief in an imaginary friend are somehow missing out on the whole “what it means to be human” experience. Incredible really.
I’ve signed that petition too, he has no place in the House of Lords.
Can I please ask comments to be a little more considerate on this blog. These people clearly need our help and compassion. Or am I being facetious ?
You’re right Phillis, he may have a mental illness, we should be more understanding!
You’re right too Carole! Religion has no place in government, definatley not in a multi cultral country.
If atheists aren’t fully human, what does that make gay atheists? Are they even a little human or are they something else entirely, like gnomes?
If atheists aren’t fully human, what does that make gay atheists?
Gaytheists.
I can’t believe nobody has made a reference to Primates yet.
I wonder if he is trying to say atheists are all Furries deep down inside.
SGC – are gay atheists even a bit human or something totally different?
Good question.
I think I might be a cyborg… having watched the ‘Terminator’ movies and the above Youtube link I’m suddenly sensing a bit of a knee jerk prejudice within myself towards people with the surname “Connor”.
I’d love to see Arnie dressed in biker attire delivering the immortal line “Are you Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’ Connor?”
Though I don’t fancy Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor’s chances of siring the saviour of the human race in person!
@Flapjack …lol…0.09 it´s also the disguised ´¨Sex´´ letters in red white, right on his chest….how could he not be touching himself?
How very Christian of him!
I’m quite happy with my sub- human status thank you very much!!

There’s more to religion than God. I’m not in any way supporting what he said, but it can’t be forgotten that the laws of this country are governed by teachings of the Bible, as the head of the country is the head of the Church (although thankfuly not to as much an extent as other countries). Politics and religion need to be seperate and religious leaders need to keep a little quieter about their personal beliefs, especially when they are kinda nonsense! I was brought up being tought that the church accepts everyone as equal, no matter their creed or colour, so why do athiests suddenly become exempt from this? I believe there are positive aspects to religion, although numpties like this make me a little ashamned to be of the same religion- not every remotely religious person believes the same, and I hate being put under the same ‘unbrella’ as these guys. Everyone is human, and part of that is the ability to have your own individual views; however the respect of others views is just as important.
I think perhaps all us atheists are just a bit further along the evolutionary path than the likes of Cardinal O’Connor who still believe in superstitious nonsense.
With all of the self delusion and petty stupidity that goes hand in hand with his definition of ‘humanity’ I’m actually glad he doesn’t count me in, I’d be more insulted if he said that atheists were exactly like him…
aw, youse guys punk’d us! this is really a lost outtake from “Look Around You”…right?
@Religiousmarie- I’m hoping he’s touching himself and not asking someone to ‘kneel before him’, if you get my drift
Regarding what’s written on his collar, I assumed it said ‘XEX’ (although as the Dan Brown informs us, you can’t always decipher these Catholic symbols correctly at first glance. Maybe it’s a subtle NLP message for the unfortunate person kneeling!)
I think we shold all sign the petition – what a complete and utter numpty.
Burn him at the stake!
er, umm, maybe not, that would put me on the same level as the Catholics of the past…..
the cardinal seems to be assuming that when a person asks the question “what is god” that all the possible answers cant possibly include “there is no god”.
Maybe the cardinal should ask himself the question “what is the tooth fairy”. If he cant find an answer then he probably isnt entirely human.
Meh, it’s just a matter of definition. If he defines ‘human’ as ‘spiritually interested person’, then he can logically say I am not human. Personally, I prefer the biological definition — ‘belonging to the genus Homo Sapiens — by which I definitely am human, but hey, whatever floats his boat. It’s just semantics.
@Flapjack…yu-huckk
Oh lord… Is there any way to expand upon that? What on earth is the point in arguing with these people, really.. Just let them be and maybe they’ll go away.
Religion is about as ridiculous as it can get these days. Organised religion is a cesspit of corruption and self-deception. You believe in a god, good for you. Doesn’t mean anyone else has to, or has to believe in the same on as you. God is different for everyone who believes, just like the idea of heaven and hell. Leave people be..
I think his comments sounded more accidentally clumsy, than intentionally offensive. He believes that atheists have no grasp or desire for “the transcendent” or “god” (the mandatory short-hand), so they are therefore missing out on the full human experience. Of course such a narrow view of transcendence would qualify him as “not totally human” also, if indeed that’s what he was driving at. Or maybe he’s just an ass, I don’t know.
