If you’re over the age of 25 then like all at BT you’ll be a massive Blackadder fan. Well they just went and re-mastered it and stuck a ton of extras on there – which is highly annoying because I already own a set. However I will be getting the new box set and giving my old one away – Hoorah.
There’s also a lovely video of the wonderful Stephen Fry selling it to us in his gentle but slightly blocked nosed voice and as funny as a vegetable that’s grown in to a rude and amusing shape.

You will give me the old one…you will give me the old one…
Damn – the whole post didn’t work cos of removing html tags
I’ll try again, but imagine the asterisks are brackets: *adopts bizarre ‘laygennelmen’ pose and winks at audience whilst simultaneously appearing sincere to subject* *paulmckenna*You will give me the old one…you will give me the old one…*/paulmckenna*
Excellent!
I’ve watched every episode several hundered times but I never get bored!
My boyfriend can quote it start to finish as well. A little geeky, but not as geeky as the fact he can do it with Star Wars too…
Just for the record though I’m only 22
I’m under 25 but still love Black Adder
oooh, think I’ve just wet my pants in excitement….. it makes me as happy as Merlin the happy pig.
Yippee!
Just about the best comedy ever (with the exception of the first series…)
@ Siobhan
You’re totally right! Rowan Atkinson prefers to play stupid characters, Hence Mr Bean. They sorted it out for Series 2 though (My favourite!)
At least Brian Blessed is in the 1st series.
Alrighty,…that is one i am definately going to buy!
excellent stuff but sadly i am skint for the next 10 years! ah well
xXx
@ Gaz – I remember a friend playing me a Paul MaKenna confidence building tape he had. The instructions were to lie back in a chair, close your eyes, create a loop with your index finger and thumb and move your hand up and down in rythmic strokes saying “I am confident” over and over!
Unfortunately the end result looked a bit dodgy and certainly wasn’t the type of thing any bloke should be caught doing in public
My favourite Blackadder quote from the first series was Richard the 3rd [Peter Cook] misquoting Shakespeare –
“Once more unto the breach dear friends once more,
consign their parts most private to a Rutland tree!”
Gaz, I wish I’d thought of that. You’re as cunning as a fox that has just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.
Phillis, what do you mean, “over 25″? I’m not a day over 21
I’m as happy as a man who thought a cat had done it’s business on his pie, but it turned out to be an extra-large blackberry!

@ Sarah
There are people under the age of 25 who don’t like BA – i know it’s hard to believe but it’s true.
Ah, was only watching Blackadder Goes Forth last night – helping my son with his history homework on the First World War was an excellent excuse. My son (well under 25 I should add) is now discovering the source of many of our favourite family jokes …… I shall have my rewengey ….. madder than mad jack mcmad …… slug balancing ……. my foot fell arff ……
And one of the best ever lines, all the more so because it is so unexpected …”Life without you is like a blunt pencil – pointless.” Wonderful.
as another under 25, I would just like to say that i will be selling the world’s largest turnip in order be be able to afford this,
‘see the little goblin, see his little face….’
@ Phillis – that’s shocking, the youth of today, eh! I blame E numbers and violent computer games.
Oh, I absolutely love Blackadder! As well as being absolutely hilarious (and I agree about the 1st series) it has probably the most moving final scene ever seen in a comedy. I tear up everytime I see it. And I have a soft spot for the xmas special too. Sadly, I AM well over 25…..

Also another under 25 BA fan here. Re-watching it now, there are clearly so many jokes I missed when watching it as a child.
I’ve got an idea! And it’s as HOT as my PANTS!

@Flapjack: are you serious? Does this tape actually exist? I’m dying.
I think the Elizabethan series was the best one of the lot. I don’t believe that anyone under 25 dislikes Blackadder, it’s too damn good!
Bloody ‘racists’…. why not Bruno?! I happened to run into him the other day .. a bit depressed he seemed .. not sure why … so why not give poor lad a boost …
After all … his pr for the gay society should be rewarded. Colleagues in the world of media should stick to eachother.
I look forward to see Bruno. Love his characters. I find it fascinating, the way he crawls into these characters. He makes me enlightened. Indeed, it is not religion that enlightens me .. but Sacha Baron Cohen. However weird that may sound. He makes me feel as if I am in love. Which I am clearly not, but still … can’t stop feeling it watching these characters.
He reminds me of someone in the past I know. The energy pattern they create on the outside by not seeing to their normal selves.
oh great, I also already have the box set which my brother gave me one Christmas ;( I love the one where the dictionary gets burnt (in the end anyway), Just brilliant! xxx
@KatM, That is one of the best line ever, amusing and lovely at the same time
.
I am 29 but will forever feel like I’m 17. Particularly because I still get asked for ID at the pub. Yeah, because a bottle of red wine, is just the thing a teeny underage drinker would be ordering (where’s the rolling eys smiley when you need it!).
Watching Trick or Treat on Ch4 at the mo. Quality TV viewing.

I can’t say I a huge fan of BA. Mediocre at best. The show that did for me was The Young Ones. Now that I’m a HUGE fan of.
Rick and Neil were my fave characters.
CLASSIC! LOL!:

Well overdue re extras but I too already have them all. Damn and blast your goggley eyes George!
There was a question about Blackadder Goes forth in my GCSE history exam (16 years ago, yes I am over 25). Passed with flying colours!
“Field Marshall Haig is about to make another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet 6 inches closer to Berlin” how useful is this as a historical source? The dumbing down of GCSEs, you wouldn’t get a question like that these days!!
