Mysterious circumstances enveloped the case that took place in the SM Denim factory, and staff at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) were baffled when affected workers of the factory were brought to the hospital’s emergency ward on Saturday.
Rumours were rife in the emergency ward, among families of the affected that the victims had been “possessed by an evil being,” as one woman put it.
“My cousin, Sadia, went into hysterics and suddenly started tossing herself across the walls of the factory, and hitting herself with her hands violently, just like the devil had taken possession of her,” said the middle-aged woman who was holding down one of Sadia’s hands. The girl’s fiancÈ held down her other hand.
Sadia, a frail girl with pallid skin, was lying on the bed with her eyes rolling up in her head. She kept trying to bite her fiance’s wrist as he held her down. She kept wriggling as if to break free, but seemed too weak to be able to actually do so.

It is a bizarre circumstance, but there could be a number of rational explanations. It could well indeed be a psychiatric disorder of some description but could also be a physical health problem that also has psychiatric manifestations.
For example, I knew a man that had a minor stroke that send him “mad” to the point where he had to be sectioned. I understand that he exhibited similar symptoms to Sadia. Not that I am saying she suffered a stroke necessarily, just that there could be a number of health problems that could have contributed to this incident.

tash: See a few posts down, the one about the dancing plague. Mass hysteria seems a likely answer — once people are convinced they are possessed (a conviction strengthened by the behavior of those around them), they will start acting as though possessed.
two people had this at the same time…well sounds to me like some nasty chemical ink-gas at the Denim factory…and the boss is scared for claims….or the workers playing it out cause they dont want to meet the bosses silly work-demands….either way, it´s nasty…
Can be just another dumm incorrect article, facts are missing. Why would you want to believe those articles?
I can write a lot like this about daily situations here in Holland … just a matter of focus and letting out the facts which would have turned them into very normal situations .. not worthy to be news.
People saying I love you to eachother …. some will find that normal, others will find that romantic, cute etc … and again other people will find that a psychiatric disorder, at least a symptom … … the why for the latter reasoning is not that difficult … if you know where it comes from.
Some drink theirselves into the other not so normal states .. they are even willing to pay for it … whereas those that got in that state due to other reasons end up on a ward or such .. ward .. bar … what’s a word …
