Russian scientists detach a dogs head for the purpose of testing and research artificial life support in pre-soviet republic. The dog is awakened in this video after having it’s head surgically severed and is experimented on to determine if the animal is lucid, and to document the technology in this film reel.
WARNING: Some viewers may find this rather disturbing.

My dreams of someday being a brain in a vat have been shattered.
But holy crap, that is a bit disturbing.
Feeling just a little nauseous now, thankyou.
Ok ill probably be blasted for this but dont you need your spine aswell this is disturbing if true but im not sure if its real or not.
Can you really move your head without your spine?
This is fishy!
Mikk
It looks like an animation…
i am doubting too a little bit, though same kinds of experiments have been done with removing heads and brains of monkeys. though i think they attached the head to another monkey.
i dont see how this could be impossible. head movement could happen if the animal is even slightly attached to something.
disturbing it rather is.
Wow.
Still confused if this was real or not.
But its amazing!
it probably is real, I bet even more horrendous experiments have happened since, what was the purpose of this experiment?
it probably is real, what was the purpose of this experiment? Seems horrendous to me.
What’s to find disturbing? The spooky music? The Harry Enfield voice over? The weird camera work? Or the WTF dog head on a table – that does seem to move quite a lot more than I would think a disembodied head could… but maybe I’m just thinking that so I can sleep tonight.
I had to collect some guts before I could watch it and luckily it wasn’t dogs screaming in pain or fear. But now having watched it, some questions raises in my head.
1) Why they don’t show that machine in work at all? It can not be secret because they introduced it so well at the beginning. Only thing you can see is the supposed loose head. Not even a bload anywhere in dogs fur.
2) It’s not only those big veins that goes into your head but a lot of littel veins and arterys too which gives blood for example to muscles to move your lips or ears. There are hundreds of those capillary veins and unless they haven’t took care of their circulation too, the dog can’t do those things it is doing in that film.
3) We are now talkin about _russian_ experiment. I have nothing personal against russians, but living in a country next to them have taught to me that in their cultrure it is crucial to appear better then you really are. For example despite how poor you are women are always dressed at their best and had a lovely make-up and hairs done and so on. Always leave other people in believe that you have succeeded in what you are doing.
Not convinced. But it IS something I’ve always wondered.
A chicken can run around for several minutes after you cut it’s head off. I am not sure what the head does…
Doubters, it’s coming for you. It’s going to show you how real it is. It’s going to lie next to you on your pillow and watch and wait as you sleep, and when you wake up it will be staring into your eyes with its own, horror-struck ones – accusing you, begging you, cursing your doubt as the last shreds of your sanity tear away.
It’s real, I’ve seen a documentary about this series of experiments (reanimated severed dog head, dog head transplanted onto another dog, dog brain transplanted into the side of another dog and still showing activity) on National Geographic a few years ago. Their ultimate goal (never achieved, though) was to find a way to keep the human brain alive after the body dies. Kind of like that Roald Dahl short story, William and Mary, though that doesn’t turn out as well as the brain’s owner had expected…
Wow, impressive…it does seem unreal though…
Seems real enough. I didn’t find it too disturbing, really. Damn, I love science.
Oh ohw ohw….
@BA…that´s exactly what i was thinking about, the Roald Dahl story…i remember reading it when i was a kid…quite disturbing but interesting to explore the possibilities…
what about this one?…not sure if its true, or weather they are aiming for funding only though…nevertheless…if it´s true then hey…
(halfway through the page there is a clip of a monkey steering a robot arm with supposedly a chip in his brain)
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread481564/pg1
I’m waiting for someone to tell me, no matter if they lied, that it’s not real. I know I was warned, but I still watched it. Result: tears, a scarypanicky feeling and a painful anxiousness.
Fine fine, if the clip is true and if it all really helped create something that saves lives, I shouldn’t be reacting this way and hating every single person who was planning and building that machine and beheading the dog. But I am.
I think I’m gonna cry for the rest of the day! So, gotta wander off to find something that’s as happy, as this is awful.
RM: That one’s real, too. I remember reading about it in Scientific American magazine, and iirc there was something about it in the newspapers, as well. They’ve already implanted a chip like that in the brain of a quadriplegic, too, allowing him to move a mouse cursor with his mind. Could be really helpful to people with locked-in syndrome, I think.
On the one hand I found the ability to do something like that fascinating and intriguing. On the other hand I found the idea of abusing a living feeling creature like that somewhat disturbing. I do accept that experiments of this nature have furthered human understanding of biology and anatomy etc. and have their uses.
I also wonder if they could do that in the 1940′s, what can they manage now?
I wont need to watch it .. I’m not in favor of those type of experiments, and if genuine, will find them disturbing and that’s not what I’m looking for (although I can rise above my own disgust if necessary). It’s enough to know about those things going on, and working against them, by supporting certain committees (animal welfare in research) and other systems.
that is the most shocking and amazing thing i have ever seen. dunno if its real or not ether way its very sad
@BA…alright, though i do not agree with alot of experiments because of their low probable outcome of having significant impact on society, i do think this one is really helpfull because of the possibilities…
(can´t help but feel very sorry for the monkey and the dog though)
RM: I feel really sorry for the dog in the clip, too. The research was basically pointless, as the goal was never reached, and the dog seems to be feeling extreme pain or sickness, judging by its facial expression. I doubt it even got any pain medication while in this state.
The monkey, I’m more conflicted about that one. They must have followed humane protocols for animal testing, because it was fairly recent, and the monkey seems to feel alright. Also, the experiments had a very beneficial outcome. Still, I don’t know whether humans should have the right to experiment on other animals like that… it just seems wrong, in a way. If some alien species did the same to us for the benefit of THEIR race, we wouldn’t be happy about it, either.
Yeeeeaaaahhhh….thats BS. for one thing why is everything in English if this is in pre-soviet republic?
I once read a book called “The Book of Dead Days” it was a bit strange and set in a made up town, but it was about a magician, and to gain some valuable information he aided a scientist in bringing dead animals back to life (after being horrendously mutated) by basically electrocuting them to make them seem if they were moving? I wonder if this is where the author got the idea from, and maybe this is what they are doing here???
I’ve just had a vision of a whole generations of “face of boes”
Oh God, if that’s real I detest Russians even more.
Alhough, not too long ago Russia claimed that their submarines had been to the Arctic Sea and they even showed some pictures but a 13-year-old schoolboy recognized the pics and they were from Titanic…
It’s almost sad for them really.
efsefse: Hm… maybe it’s American newsreel footage about the experiment? Or it could be mislabeled as being from the Russian experiments, maybe it’s from the American experiments by Robert J. White — he did similar thing. I know these experiments were actually performed, though. I’ve seen them referenced in several magazine articles, and I’ve seen a documentary about them.
Wow. That make me feel a bit sick. I’ve heard of this experiment before but never seen footage – sort of wish it’d stayed that way. I know, I know, I was warned…
there must be something wrong with me, i found that more cute than disturbing
disturbing nonetheless.
and i think i can believe the russians could do this really. it looked pretty real.
Just reading the comments is making me feel dreadful, so I’m going to tell myself that it’s fake and wipe my mind of it. How Tiia describes feeling is how I’d imagine I’d be if I watched it so I’m not going to.
If it’s real ( it is NOT real) then shame on all who were involved. I hope they had daily nightmares and couldn’t look in a mirror ever again. Sick.
Yeah, it’s a lie. Isn’t it? A big fat steaming pile of a lie. Utter bs.
Just going to repeat that to myself.
Sorry for the multiple posts but had to let you know that if you google this, the general consensus is that this was just propaganda and ,whilst elements of it may be true, the footage of the dog’s head probably isn’t real.
Feel better now

As far as I was aware this experiment actually happened Sergei Brukhonenko the scientist responsible is well known for doing such things. I might say that the video like all reporting has been edited (not in the digital sense but in the positioning and circumstances under which the filming was preformed)
As much as I dislike seeing dogs been mistreated it did provided a couple of interesting finds, also I’d just like to point out to some people who questioned if it was possible to move your muscles with out a spine. It is the spine is a extension of the brain which takes the ‘wires’ if you will to the body. The nerves of the face all stay in the head. So if you removed the spine you could still more your face. Its why paralysed person tend to have a descending paralysis. Something be it an accident or infection is stopping the signals from the brain reaching the lower portion of the body.
It is these sorts of experiments however ghoulish that pushed medical understanding. There is normally a price to pay for advances. For a simular story check out mike the headless chicken http://www.miketheheadlesschicken.org/index.php
@jim…“oh yes it is a great comfort to know you can live a normal life, even after having lost your mind…“ Great article truly comforting
This is the first time ever I have read the comments without watching the film and I would like to thank everyone for confirming for me that I do not need to watch this. I already know the world is a dark and dangerous place…
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Is it fake… Yes… Pay close attention.. To the cropping… Totally unneeded if you are willing to show this much it is then necessary to show the pipes connected to the major arteries and descending veins but no show? Still good parlor trick I suppose..
I agree with Jimmy, it is a fake. Also look at text on bottle “citric acid”, it is on English, but it should be Russian cyrillic.
Just to answer some questions…
*The purpose of this was “for the purpose of testing and research artificial life support in pre-soviet republic”, as seen at the top above the video.
*The dog’s head was reattached to it’s body in a jar with preserving liquid amd live happily for 6 years with a handpicked family.
Hope that clears things up.
