Amsterdam police are deeply concerned about a new craze in which vandals toss parked cars from the Smart brand into the city’s canals. The so-called ‘Smart tossing’ takes place mainly during the weekend, when many youths are out for a night on the town.

Smart tossers.
Is it wrong that I find this quite funny?! Although I don’t think I would feel the same if it were my car being tossed in a river!
are the smart cars those tiny cartoon lookin ones that fit 2 ppl?
I’m sorry but with a heading like that I could not help but laugh – Tut. They could have called it something else.
Am I the only one who finds this really wrong? How much does one of those cost? How much hassle is it when it happens to you?
They could easily find the culprits by putting up CCTV and seeing when they do it, It’s vandalism and should be punished
Hahaha! That makes me happy. Those cars are stupid.
Alex: Putting up CCTV cameras is a surefire way to get people all up in arms over here, with protests and petitions and such. Amsterdam people are rather protective of their privacy.
Anyway, De Telegraaf is pretty much the Dutch version of the Daily Mail, so I’m taking this story with a grain of salt.

hmmm – Sorry to be the party pooper but I agree with Alex to some extent… I think it’s funny till it happens to you. Remember, even if your car insurance coughs up for the damage, the resulting hike in your insurance premium means you are left drastically out of pocket… and given that small cars are generally driven by people on a tight budget, I’m inclined to empathise with the poor car owners.
In the last 4 years my car has been vandalised 4 times. I only claimed on the insurance once, due to the fact that with insurance as with gambling the bank always wins. Many’s the month I’ve had to choose between car repairs and food. That’s when the joke wears thin.
Apologies Anton, It was only a few paragraphs of your article and we did provide a link to the source, but i’ve amended it to a couple of lines as requested.
By the way, for anyone who reads Dutch, here’s the original Telegraaf article: http://www.telegraaf.nl/binnenland/4467014/__Smart_smijten_rage_in_Amsterdam__.html
Ehehehe …. and they did not mention the bikes in the lamp poles yet, all over the country …. And you think people in the UK are being bored ….
Who ever would park its car like that by the way????? You ask for being tossed … almost. Or drive it in there yourself .. (oops .. forget to put it on the hand brake ).
It only says that the tossers are not that strong … petit smarts … therefor .. smart tossers .. they would have been dumb if trying to toss a jeep or such ..
They are practical in the city .. those smarts … although they look kinda weird, not sure what they drive like. If someone hits you .. there is no slight chance of surviving I guess … so not safe in that area (but seat marbella’s and many many other cars neither).
But I’ve seen a few very cool 45 km vehicles this weekend …. They should put a normal into those! I need to put stuff in there from at least 3 meters so not practical for me right now.
The new way of parking … just push the tiny ones in the water .. maybe those have not been tossed … ehehe .. and then they decided it was too obvious to park there ..
I never go to amsterdam, so I dont care .. it’s boring overthere .. as you may see now for yourself … bored to the max.
