Huge blobs of mysterious “goo” are floating in the Arctic sea off the coast of Alaska, according to local reports. Hunters from the Alaskan coastal town of Wainwright first noticed the dark, shiny substance floating for miles in the icy Arctic waters of the Chukchi sea.
The odorous substance, which has been described variously as “goey”, “gunky” and “hairy” has been also been found of the coast of Barrow, 72 miles north east of Wainwright. Samples of the huge “gobs of gunk” were taken on Friday by officials from the North Slope Borough, who flew out to Wainwright with the US Coast Guard to investigate. Jelly fish and a dead goose were found tangled up in stands of the substance.
The “goo”, which is believed to be formed of organic matter, is reportedly floating in strands of up to 15-miles long. The US Coast Guard told the Anchorage Daily Newsthat the strange find is not an oil product or a hazardous substance of any kind. ”It’s definitely, by the smell and make-up of it, some sort of naturally occurring organic or otherwise marine organism,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Terry Hasenauer.

uh-oh…
interesting, it reminds me a bit of the giant plastc blob that is floating around in the Pacific.

When will humans learn to respect the sea? Never I fear.
I kind of wish it’s a massive colony of sentient micro-organisms that’s developing into a super-intelligent being… but realistically speaking, it kind of sounds like blooming algae or something like that. Fingers crossed for the super-intelligent Blob, though.
i wonder if it’s yetti dung?
Wait a minute… in Steve McQueen’s B-movie horror flick “The Blob” wasn’t the flesh eating blob stopped by dropping it in the Arctic to freeze solid? Do you think it might have thawed or am I confusing cheezy sci-fi with reality again?
I hope it isn´t a group of those massive grown out of proportion, clutched together-worms, we saw in a clip here a few weeks ago! blegh.
no, FJ, steve mcqueen’s blob was frozen solid in the downingtown diner. i dont know what happened to the blob in the recent remake, you may be thinking of that one.
The crew of Red Dwarf have blown up another despair squid, and none too soon aswell, the ink was covering most of the northern hemisphere. When we wake up tommorow we will find that we are living in a perfect world with chirping birds, flowers blooming, rainbows overhead. No disease, no poverty or war and possibly most shocking of all, Simon Cowell is not a complete c**t.
Let’s wait and read in due time what this is all about. Let is not screw up our normal mind yet.
Changes around us in nature are there all the time. This season I see a lot of those black beetles, never have seen so many of them, they are in the house and all over my property. The getting smaller of wasps, in the previous years, the getting larger of them now again (and the more painfull sting ..), the outburst of mice everywhere the last previous years .. The weather’s cycles triggers all of this. Nothing to do yet with global waring but just the way it always has been. Global warming itself might not really be due to human interference but just nature’s laws … Those holes up there .. they also can close (and do close) at times all of a sudden again … They hardly report on that .. as it would not back up their hypothesis ofcourse …
It’s all a matter of focus.
Ofcourse, keeping your place a bit clean, also outdoors, is just common sense. But some will need extremes to see that.

perhaps we should name it….. blobzilla?
@ roz – hate to be smug, but Wikipedia backs me up on this one… the Blob was left in the Arctic!

It’s obviously the same blob and the movie was a documentary with actors staging an elaborate reconstruction! Run for your lives!
Here it is in action…

This kind of reminds me of a game i played when i was younger where you had to investigate a blob that had washed up onto the beach and decide what it was made of and what not… good times
