A bishop has advised that holy water be removed from churches in a bid to halt the spread of swine flu.
The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Reverend John Gladwin, said at some churches people were invited make a sign of the cross using holy water.
“The water in stoups can easily become a source of infection and a means of rapidly spreading the virus,” he said.
The Bishop also issued advice about taking holy communion warning if anyone had flu-like symptoms not to “drink wine from the chalice”.
BBC (Thanks Kenny).

That was an amazing Stewie impression;)
Nice to see the church being responsible, I hope enough churches listen though!
So do priests with std’s and now they are worried about holy wate?!
That takes me back.
When I was made to take my first communion at my C of E primary school (before I went atheist!) there was a bratty girl in the lineup, standing 5 kids up the line from me.
Having gone through the whole ceremony, and after we’d all had a sip of communion wine she fessed to her friends that she’d deliberately phlegmed up in the chalice!
We all felt slightly ill after that
So Holy water can be used to drive out evil spirits from people and homes but it’s not immune to becoming infected with something like swine flu? Very interesting, Mr Bond…
but if the water is “holy” it would be free from disease and cure swine flu!
So, we can safely asume that Religious-belief is the spiritual-form of Swine Flue?
Good to read that they do at times live in the same world as us.
Maybe God put swine flu into Holy water to afflict us.
I thought holy water to be a major player in the “spread of infection” before, but failed to consider it as a source of pathogens as well.
i heard last night that they’ve totally removed wine from holy communion now – but why don’t they accept it i mean as often quoted by the church ‘do not go against god!’ – what if ‘god’ wanted us to all die and suffer!
What worries me is how will we keep Vampires at bay now?
Maybe the priests get to loopy on Christ’s blood, and they dont want to take a chance at showing their real desires; NOT to service God, but to service children.
@kenny….garlic, garlic and i think, lifting up your dress!
Yeah this is all well and good and noble blah, blah. Now lets tell the people of Africa they can use condoms and still get into heaven can we?
Bishop?… Hello?…. Aids?… Millions dead and dying?… Anyone?…
