Stare at the centre of this movie. After 30 seconds your mind will imprint the colour on the image despite it switching to black and white. Works better in full screen and if you keep your eyes still.
See colour when there is none

isn’t the video doing it for you? or is it just my eyes? it didn’t work for me.
Eeh .. you mean .. you wont just change it into a colour vid? Right now the pic is B&W (I think, is it ? I’m sure .. do not screw my brain!)
Let me check ….
wow … I would not call it normal colour s…. and yes, it sticks a bit to the b&w pic later on (so I function normally this time … such a relief ..). I should not do these tests though .. I have some symptoms next to the symptoms you should see … my head already starts to do weird … my visual system should not be stimulated too much in this area … I’m a bit too sensitive .. but that’s because I really get into it … with the whole of me … What, you have that too? I’m not unique? … geeezzz ….
Ever tried this optical illusion … sit together facing eachother, at a not too large distance … start looking eachother into the eyes .. keep the eyes still ……. INDEED! we no longer need to think we’re the expression I’ve got the 3rd eye comes from!!!! That’s how we look in reality you know .. yes, the blurred mouth and such as well … not an illusion … Also a good trick to get at ease with a date or so … ehehe …
That is sooooooooooo cool!
But then again I am easily impressed these days….
It sort of worked – the ‘colour’ image after it was switched from the negative looked like a tinted photo rather than glorious technicolour and faded to black and white after a couple of seconds. Interesting illusion though
Didn’t work for me… though I did go slightly cross eyed looking at it which made for some interesting looks from co-workers. (then I should probably actually do some work rather then looking at this blog…)
Thats amazing its really vivid!
For me the grass is green and the girl on the left and girl on the right are wearing pink
it stays that way for as long as i keep my eyes still
The brain is a wonderful thing
It works really well for me, really vivid colours
I was listening to Any Colour You Like as I checked my RSS feed. Obviously, this just meant I was predisposed to notice something saying “colour”, but I still love those moments.
It probably has to do with how willing your eyes are to stay focussed. Mine just refused, but I still got a split second of vivid colours. That, and I have a bright light by my eyes, which can’t have helped.
I found it worked better at normal size, I saw the illusion for longer. I don’t know if anyone else had the problem with the twiddling YouTube “loading” circle glitching away in the middle the whole time? That probably isn’t helping people keep their eyes still. I notice YouTube does that sometimes on videos which are very still like this. Probably an issue with Flash or something.
BTW love the new blog layout, but yesterday I did a massive comment (ooer) and then accidentally clicked “subscribe” and lost everything. I think this is because the subscribe button is where you usually find a submit button. Or it could just be me being a dolt.
x
Thats kinda cool, although you can’t properly look at the image when its “in colour” because for it to work you have to keep looking at the centre.
wwiicckkeed!!!!
Sorry if this makes me sound like a pretentious arse, but I figure it’s equally as interesting to know that it’s not your brain doing the imprinting – the effect is the result of the cones in your eye becoming bleached to the inverted colours over the first thirty seconds; when colour in the image is then returned to a ‘neutral’ state (grayscale), the cone receptors ‘overshoot’ the mark to perceive the tonally opposite colour – fascinating stuff about perception there – it’s a bit more complicated than that, but I figure I’m boring anyone who’s bothered to read this enough already
