Fish! <3 fish! It has forward facing eyes and a human-looking face. It looks kind of depressed and I wish I could give it a hug and tell it that it's beautiful on the inside and everyone can see that.
It _really_ doesn’t appear real to me.
Even his movements are sort of unrealistic. Maybe I’ll wait littel more research before buying this.
But then after all, there are still wonders left we haven’t discovered!
I did a quick look online and found the source for this. There was an article in Copeia (2008(4):780-784) on this fish and from the looks of things the video is real. One of the authors of the article is the narrator on the video which is footage from an ROV used in waters off California (according to the MBARI news release – sorry i don’t know how to link to articles but a quick search on google should find it). According to fishbase its a small fish (the size they’ve got recorded is 4.4 cm total length). It’s a small but very strange fish, and though not new to science it’s normally damaged in trawls so getting footage of a live specimen is really exciting.

WoW…if it´s real it must have gotten some genes from jelly-fish?…it´s head even looks kind of sweet…
that’s just distrubing!
This must be how everyone’s head appears to Derren!

He looks so sad!
That’s computer generated, surely. If not, it looks it.
Amazing. But why? Where in its evolution would it the weird head thing have benefited it?
I’m with Mark. Looks CGI to me. Maybe it’s the unusual voice over that give the whole thing an artificial feel.

A barreleye fish it is, google says. See through bodies I’d seen but see through heads like this one .. not yet.
We need to get into MRI and stuff like that and it still will not show the inside like this …
