From somebody who lives close to Killorglin I can vouch that Puck Fair is just another excuse for a piss-up. Search all over Ireland and you will find that they are a regular occurance. Almost every town or village has some sort of a 'festival' that generally consists of excessive drinking amoungst people of twelve years and older set in a backdrop of rain, mud and of course some sort of a 'lovely girls contest'. Its what makes Ireland Ireland. As for Puck, my personal highlight is the horse fair where one can purchase anything from a piebald mare to a flat screen TV. While the rest of Europe is wallowing in economic turmoil, you can always rely on the Irish to get locked and forget about life's troubles..mighty craic! Long live King Puck!

They also choose a young girl from the town as the Queen of the Puck and have a ceremony that smacks of marriage, to the goat.

I was dating an ex goat bride on the two occasions I visited. Lucky me.
The goat also spends the festival imprisoned on top of a tower built in the town square.

Fun times

Ha. The article fails to mention what happens once the period of kingship is up. Temporary periods of kingship during festival times usually end badly.
