An Adolf Hitler look-alike has being used to front a controversial new campaign to promote an anti-stress tea. The press ad for Rasayana Tea features the dictator in full uniform wearing a nazi armband and iron cross medal.
But look closely. On his uniform beside the medals is also pinned a yellow smiley face badge. The work from the Art Grup advertising agency in Istanbul, Turkey, carries the strapline, “Make peace with the world. Anti-stress tea from Rasayana.”
The reasoning being that if you drink this Turkish tea you’ll be less inclined to try and take over the world, create the 1,000 year Third Reich and gas millions of Jews. Other executions from the campaign feature the Hitler look-alike chillling out in a Hawaiian shirt, accessorised with a nazi armband.
Reactions to the work, posted on adsoftheworld.com, unsurprisingly have been mixed with demands that the images be removed from the site. DarrenT slammed the advert saying it had, “no intelligent concept, no consumer appeal, no brand equity, no visual appeal.”
Warreno, added, “This whole campaign is just really, really tasteless.

Ads making fun of Hitler are actually becoming less taboo in Germany, especially with the teenagers. There’s an ad on youtube that did pretty well because, I think, the younger generation see laughing at Hitler as a way of getting over the whole Nazi guilt thing.
Shocking, yes, but is it really any more tasteless than, say, the concept of the Broadway musical ‘Springtime For Hitler’ in Mel Brooke’s ‘The Producers’?

The problem is probably that there are a few on this world who might not get the point or start to think that what Hitler et al did was not that bad .. that it does not happen anymore .. something from the past .. whereas similar stuff still happens ofcourse … all over the world .. the number of victims is not all that counts. If you kill one or way more … It starts normally with smaller portions .. and quite often in a working environment … they can be lovely family people .. as we all know.
I prefer not seeing his face in this area either … connected to something light and fun … It is way too serious.

Well, maybe the people against it think that the ad doesn’t work, because you can always gas a million jews in a more relaxed way, but you’re gassing them nonetheless.
