Hi Redpill

The reason I was so grateful to video being posted is because it shows a very common view in the Middle East that is not seen on western media very often. We seem to only be shown one side of Middle Eastern thought, and one perspective of Middle Eastern religious people; a very negative and one sided view.

Lebanon and the Middle East is NOT behind in social thinking it has a long history of amazing culture, civilisation and philosophy. The people of the Middle East had developed cities, states, abstract counting, metallurgy, monumental architecture, the alphabet and writing while the people Western Europe were still tying animal skins to themselves to keep warm.

Remember that the American constitution is pretty much a paragraph by paragraph interpretation of the Scottish National Covenant written in 1638 that is the product of the reformation that came out of humanist thinking brought back by the crusades from - yes you guessed it - the Middle East.

Also to the idea that Lebanese women “should be allowed to walk next to their husbands on the street or uncover their faces in public” please, please do a simple search on youtube for “Lebanese music” or google “Lebanese women”. Those chicks are hot, and not afraid to show it! :->

My point is there are crack-pots in all religions and in all cultures, there are also very intelligent, articulate, rational people within all religions and all cultures, and it’s great to see some footage of an intelligent religious person in a western based blog.

It makes me happy.

On the one hand I applaud this guy for his stance, a rare and brave thing indeed considering the source. On the other of course it is a case of just how far behind in social thinking some societies are. Its like he just read the American constitution for the first time and thought WOW, I never considered that... a few centuries late but better late than never I suppose.

Before you know it some crazy fringe groups will pop up saying that women should be allowed to walk next to their husbands on the street, or uncover their faces in public and then who knows where the madness will end.

The whole concept of a religion being just a religion, nothing more, nothing less and a state being the same... is simple beautiful.

But how far does that logic go... I'm guessing that this can only be refuted by the interpretation of the Quran itself. So what does the Quran say about this and particularly what does it say about getting more followers? That could be used as a reason to involve religion in state-affairs couldn't it?

It stays quite vague .. in fact .. he states that islam is sacred but then he starts to say that the jurisprudence can not be criticized either ... Whatever gives him that idea? Both can be criticized ofcourse ..

Too bad that it is not clear who this guy is, what the interview was about and what was before and after these few minutes and in what context this interview has been there.

The problem will pop up quite fast if religious people find that there way of living have to be a general thing in the country .. The outrage of those extremists due to a opening of a parking lot on sabbath .. they can't keep it to theirselves ..t heir religion .. that it is not the worl of everyone .. You can hear those but they should not give in to those anymore and hey .. that will upset them .. without doubt.
The basic structures should not be about religion in a country, that's my idea, but if a country has been based on religious structures and/or mostly still is ... then it will take time to change ... many many years ... generations ...

I dont bother about churchbells on sunday or such. Religion and atheists can live next together quite well. but they have to respect eachother ofcourse. Let eachother live their life.

Thank you for posting this. It's really wonderful to see people of faith demonstrating clear, logical, rational thought. To often I find myself overwhelmed by words and images of followers of different faiths being less than humane and by the stupidity in religion. It's refreshing to see another side and a person beneath the image.

Thanks again

... excuse me while I just indulge myself in your excellent smiley faces.

:-) :-0 ;-) :-/ ;-P :-( :'-[ :-}
