Research undertaken by the Universities of Reading, Cardiff and Bristol has found that drinking milk can lessen the chances of dying from illnesses such as coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke by up to 15-20 %.
In recent times milk has often been portrayed by the media as an unhealthy food. The study, led by Professor Peter Elwood (Cardiff University) together with Professor Ian Givens from the University of Reading’s Food Chain and Health Research Theme, aimed to establish whether the health benefits of drinking milk outweigh any dangers that lie in its consumption.
Importantly, this is the first time that disease risk associated with drinking milk has been looked at in relation to the number of deaths which the diseases are responsible for.
The review brought together published evidence from 324 studies of milk consumption as predictors of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke and, diabetes. Data on milk consumption and cancer were based on the recent World Cancer Research Fund report. The outcomes were then compared with current death rates from these diseases.
Professor Givens explained: “While growth and bone health are of great importance to health and function, it is the effects of milk and dairy consumption on chronic disease that are of the greatest relevance to reduced morbidity and survival. Our review made it possible to assess overall whether increased milk consumption provides a survival advantage or not. We believe it does.

what about milkshakes?
I love that picture, makes me feel all warm and smiley.
Mmm, I like my milk. As someone who can quite easily drink down a litre or two in one go then this is good news for me!
Sweet pic too.

grin! i drink milk every day, but it has to be skim!
Ah .. diary products … I dont take em, do take substitutes .. and I did not want to become 100 and many years anyhow, so in case it would make me live even longer … we dont’ want that, sorry guys of the research.
They probably dont mean all type of milk … there is the very fat milk straight from the cow .. (I hated it that when I was a kid .. interesting to fetch it from the farmer but disgusting .. way too full flavoured/fat ). And also .. how many do you drink from it .. what type of person you are (what body system you have that means) etc etc …
Nah, milk will not be the new cure in our world. Using your body will mean it will get its little damage here and there. That’s perfectly normal, when using something. That’s apart from genetics … and weird extreme preferences of people …
I prefer soepe when it comes diary … soepe is karnemelk is .. buttermilch .. is … .. yes, indeed.
But I never drink that either. All those choices when it comes to food .. it’s just simply too much .. it fucks up my brain, so we keep it sober. That makes you live longer as well. Slightly anorexic people live longer. Weird huh .. that they start to pick so much on youngsters, female especially (never those skeleton like young blokes, always the slim chicks). Most of them being picked on are not in danger at all yet. When they cant deal with normal life anymoer then it is about time to interfere .. fill em up and let em go again .. It’s really they theirselves who will have to make the decision .. With ageing it will disappear quite often. Sort of. Then you have proven that your life style is not killing you and that they are the bulemic/anorexic ones in fact …. (serious .. that’s how it often is .. in the end .. people …).
Milking the cow then .. that’s healthy .. ehehe … according to science .. and drinking it … eheheh …
Disgusting post, now that I think of it. Hm, but milking and drinking can not be combined. Surreal.
I hate milk. I hate the sour milk smell it leaves on the breath of its drinkers. If my husband has had ice cream or milk, I can smell it and it makes me gag to be kissed by him. Cruel, but true. I simply can’t ever go back to drinking milk. But I do prefer a bit of heavy cream in my coffee. Once in a while.
