I think this article is completely one sided. Yes, probiotic drinks are full of sugar, and who knows if the actual good bacteria reaches your gut anyway. But not all probiotics are in the form of sugary yoghurty rubbish - some companies actually make them in probiotic capsules, which are tested to make sure they actually reach the intestines where they are supposed to work.

The EFSA didnt reject all of the claims, but said they needed to be resubmitted for further review. Good explanation can be found here - http://www.optibacprobiotics.co.uk/optibac-news/optibac-probiotics-probiotic-health-claims-rejected-by-efsa-not-so-simple.html

I feel quite strongly about this, as my sister suffers from IBS and finds that probiotics really do relieve her.

Good evening .
I have something to say, about AloeVera, something about which you wrote above, about health and minerals... For a long time, I and my nice friend use the products of the forever living. We always see the nice results and also we make money for our families and we are happy. My friend works with aloevera in the company of forever living has more than 5 years (My friend works ONLY in the forever living products company and has a wife and three children). I know aloe vera products for personal care for a long time, but a year ago, began working as a distributor in the forever living company.
Of course, the job is some difficult, but in no other case, You really can earn so much much money with so much fun and smiling faces around..
So if you want to discuss something about your post, and about my experience with Aloe products for nutritional, I'll always be glad to talk.

Best regards from Seattle and have a nice day!
Andrew - Aloe Vera Distributor
P.S. derrenbrown.co.uk - THE BEST!!!

A while back my spouse was reading Good to Great and all those other business self help kinds of books. I asked, why can't Dannon, for example, just make yogurt, plain or maybe fruited yogurt, today, and tomorrow? I mean if people want to buy yogurt, they'll keep buying yogurt. The response I got was that you have to grow or die. I don't totally buy this. Also one justification was that if the company grows it can hire more people. We all know the opposite of that: downsizing and redundancy.
And of course, the company has to reward it's shareholders. Ideally, naively, I think things would be so much simpler if companies just made what we needed.
I found this article very interesting and sobering. The deliberateness of the marketing and the incrementalism of it is mind-boggling.

I remember one outrageous claim... I think it turned up on BBC's "Watchdog" consumer show where they were looking into beauty products.
They featured the sciencey bit on the advert for a skincream which claimed to make your skin fuller, with diagrams demonstrating before and after cross sections through the skin. When they took the diagrams to an impartial dermatologist, he said the "before" diagram was normal healthy skin off someone's face... however the "after" diagram which looked all thick and lucious to the untrained eye was taken from the sole of the heel! So if you wanted leathery facial skin with a cheesy aroma, presumably that was the product to buy :D

See this is why marketing sucks. Especially in markets where substance is knocked away by words and images.

I studied Marketing as part of my degree and one of the fundamental beliefs is that you can literally sell anything (which is highlighted above.) If you need any further proof in this matter just take a walk around the supermarket whilst asking yourself, hummm when was the last time I really, desperately needed a pro biotic yoghurt drink, a roll on eye wrinkle cream, a plug in air freshener which lights up my living room, anything from ikea, dry shampoo, tampons that have nothing to do with pearls, a book written by a glamour model and vibrating razors.

Bottom line is if you can create an ad campaign which creates a need for the product you are most certainly onto a winner.

oh man, this one time I wanted some yoghurt so I bought some kind of probiotic stuff out of curiosity.
No food is meant to do that to your digestive system. You should not be running for the bathroom after you eat yoghurt unless it's a month past its sell-by date. Seriously, you guys, don't do it.
