This video of Bill Maher interviewing Jeff Sharlet is quite bizarre. It’s hard to believe there’s any truth in what Jeff is claiming but he has documented evidence and a book to back up his claims.
He says that at the heart of congress is a messianic cult that cares only about one thing – power. They are known as “The Family” have been going 70 years and contain some of the most powerful people around the world – they will defend anyone who they say has “been chosen” – whether your Hitler, Pol Pot or a vicious child rapist they will protect you. Their goal – to build super churches inside military bases.

This stupid blabbering about chosen .. will of god … nonsense of course. Those in high places did normally not get their by their selves at all .. they misused at times already lots of people to get there …
I’m sure there are lots of people in higher places who from certain groups, as this happens in all places. But if you still think you will reach something which churches …. then you’re not all sane in the brain I’d say …
Otherwise neither, but with a church … in a military bases … It’s hilarious … typical american way of thinking perhaps .. People should stop focussing on America for sure .. .they have a very weird way of seeing upon things … and keep bringing god into their speeches … as if god has anything to do with all things. In times of disaster .. may god be with us … They are not supposed to talk about god, but do something.
Anyhow .. screw this so-called family ..
See, the thing is, whenever I here something like this, the bit of my brain which accepts information going in just shuts down. As a person, I’ve heard to much about bogus religious world cults like the Illuminati and the Knights Templar in charge of the world to take any of them seriously. I don’t think I’m alone in that, either.
So then the question I have is, would anyone ever accept it if it was true, and does this not mean then that if we don’t our rationality has been compromised? If we dismiss an idea simply on the basis that it appears to be similar to something we read about in a Dan Brown ‘novel’, are we not as bad as the conspiracy nuts we deride?
Zarniwoop – I totally agree with you on that one. It’s like Carl Sagan says, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, whether religious zealot or conspiracy nut. So if the guy can provide hard evidence for what he says, that’s fine, but otherwise I’d always refer to this…
YouTube
it always cracks me up when somebody asserts that congress–who can barely find their arses with both hands & a talking GPS–is so organized & cooperative that they could actually carry out anything like this! that guy needs to get a job in washington…a nice internship should do it…
I wonder if anyone has been reading Obama´s biography…and what he wrote about the same people that mingle for years on end from college up to the congress elections upto the national elections…any thoughts on that?
I have long believed that the concept of being the ‘exclusive chosen ones’ is one of the most toxic, poisonous ideas that has ever blighted human consciousness. (As opposed to the idea that many or even everyone may be ‘chosen’.) More bloody wars have been based on this than for nearly any other reason–even so-called territorial wars are often about how ‘we’re better than you, therefore we deserve to rule you/take your resources/stuff…and even kill you, since you’re obviously not *chosen*’ There are few truly dangerous ideas, but this is one of them for sure. Somehow too, the ‘chosen’ don’t ever seem to be peaceful, they seem to be psychopaths and sociopaths. (Who are more prevalent in the population than popularly believed. Most are not serial killers, they just have no conscience or sense of moral obligation, and are master manipulators for personal gain.)
Of course, the popular opinion is that this is just conspiracy theory. It’s just too hard for sane people to wrap their minds around, and is often therefore dismissed that this could be happening, especially on any widespread level. However, being in local/community (not national) news media, I’ve seen some evidence locally (smaller-time folks, on their way ‘up’) of what Sharlet is saying, though not gotten enough evidence to publish it. (And I’ve often thought it would be the death of my career, which doesn’t bother me so much as not being able to continue to watchdog for the public. Some of us actually still know what the news reporter’s job in the US is supposed to be, though you’d never guess it from watching TV. Somehow, most good investigative reporters with integrity don’t make it to US television these days.) The sincerely devout folks’ minds (as well as those of ‘rational’ people) just shut down at the thought that their religion is or could be used (often against them)for such nefarious purposes. So they stop thinking, and the ‘Family’, IMHO, knows this and makes use of it.
Conspiracy is just a bunch of people who secretly agree to further their own ends illegally. So why is it so hard to believe that a bunch of power-hungry and money-hungry jerks wouldn’t get together and do this, given half a chance?
[...] Morally corrupt fundamentalists “The Family” at heart of US politics – I enjoy reading about consipiracy theories of all sorts; but this one seems to ring more true than many others I hear about [...]
Religion and capitalism: They deserve each other.
