Come and be involved in my nationwide experiment, and be part of The Events.
Yesterday evening, a curator of London’s famous Science Museum drew a picture in secret, wrapped it up in newspaper and placed it in the museum on display. No-one but she knows what it is.
Until next Thursday, 3rd Sept, this picture will remain on display for any of you who wish to take part, to come and look at the wrapped-up picture and attempt to sense what the image is. The only limitation placed on the curator is that she was to draw some ‘simple design’, to make the image relatively straightforward.
If you would like to take part in this experiment into psychic ability which will form part of one of The Events, please visit the Science Museum and follow the signs to the picture.
Good luck! Your guesses will be shown on TV in September.
Best wishes to you all,
Derren

Aw I would but I’m like 200 miles away!
*wonders if there’s enough time to get from Bank to South Ken over lunchtime!*
I can sense it from here….
….it’s a boat!
Or a banana. Oh, dammit.
I’ll be heading down on…Monday
Very interesting idea
It’s so far away!
Ahtough I’m free all week!
I feel a roadtrip coming on!
I can’t get to London, so I’m going to hedge my bets, think about it and suggest: a test tube.
Huzzah.
oh how fun
I shall pop over in my lunch break
for now, I’m guessing a cat
It’s a circle inside a triangle.
Bit far away I’m afriad…. hmmm, long distance psychic powers tells me its a house…
It is a salamander. I think you Brits call it a newt.
Its a Hat
London is too far away for me. I’m up in Bolton.
I reckon it’s a factory, with big chimneys and smoke coming out of them.
It’s a picture of a house.
Fact.
would have loved to but it’s too far away……part of me is guessing the clues will either be in and around the building, or in something you have just said ; P Can’t wait to see The Events. xx
Wish I could go but it’s a bit far away.
Its a cat anyway
Wondering what the point of this is, as no one on this earth has true psychic ability.
Darn, I’m away for my birthday but I’m just gonna tune in to the museum now with my special psychic antenna and suggest an apple?
Is it just me or did anyone just get an image of a horse flash in their thoughts? For no reason whatsoever I just started thinking of a horse as if the image was being pushed into my head. Spooky stuff
Too busy unfortunately, but i’m convinced its a car.
I look forward to my new career being Derrens sidekick.lol
Excellent, I haven’t been to the science museum for a long time and I’m really looking forward to paying it a visit.
However, I must say that in my opinion there is no such thing as “psychic ability”.
A confident & assertive performer using a combination of cold reading techniques, along with other mind trickery, can fool gullible? & receptive people into thinking they posses psychic abilities (usually for financial gain , of course) but can NEVER prove it under test conditions.
Hmmmm, I think it’s a chair!
look forward to seeing the results
Based on past episodes, I’m betting it’s either a cat or a boat.
It’ll be a drawing of a house, it always is.
I wish I could go have a look… but too far away!
Gerrrrrr…… So i was right in an earlier post, find hidden item in science muesum (in the backwards trailer post)…. Derren, you are a total pain…. i live in manchester and not on holiday in london till the 11th and me and the other half have been trying to get involved (we cant make the “gathering” at the space). Again Gerrrrr…. But i guess its a bird of some sort or a plane.
Probably a fossile snail , like an Ammonite. Or maybe a Trilobite.
if only i was still in london! i’m gonna guess a fish
why does EVERYTHING happen in london?!
i cant get there, but im going to guess anyway.
its a pair of glasses.
Will walk next door over lunch i think… lol
Bless working in south ken!
Cheers
Rob
It’s a cock.
I’ll just guess seeing as I live in Manchester and have quite a bit of pre-term college work to do
I dunno, a monkey
An Apple!
Very nice idea, is anything else like this planned?
@kris maybe a banana boat?
Maybe you could post a photo of the exhibit here?
its a house
Hmm… Wondering if it will be the same as what David Tennant drew in an episode of Trick or Treat (?) a while ago…
for the first time ever I wished i was in england and not in australia. Hopefully the maddness wont last.
Well when i Read that, I suddenly had a Picture of a Bike, but not just one. Maybe another Bike for a Child too
Damn it – I live a train ride away! I’ve already bought the limited edition poster and spent every single evening this week on this blog, I don’t think I will be able to justify to the other half why we should pay the train ticket to get there. I’m going to have to do like Kris and Tom and take a wild guess from here!
@Enigma – after I’ve had my revelation and decided what the image is, will you cast my vote for me while you’re there?
I can’t get to London, but luckily I can do this from a distance
It’s Jupiter. Without a doubt.
This sounds more like an experiment into who will come to the museum to look at NOTHING because you told them to… hehe
x
I’m getting the image of a fat security guard…
Paul B
*thinks you should do some in random cities like…SWANSEA!!!* ha ha
I think she has drawn a lightbulb, simple design and scientific, given her surroundings when she drew it, or that could be a double bluff!!
I’m far too far away to go and look at this particular newspaper wrapping, I’m going to guess she drew a duck. Like a rubber duck. Just guessing.
I think it’s an orange. Or maybe I’m just hungry and fancy something a bit fruity!
I’m sooo far away but the very best of luck. For the record I say it’s a vase with a single flower in it x
Its a sausage
Im in the USA but from the picture I can feel its a house with a little garage attached and a dog in the front. (all stick men kind of drawings) Hmm somehow I don’t think I quite have psychic ability or am able to guess that accurately!
I reckon it’s a schoolbook-style willy. Three hairs per cojone, as per the universal rule of maths exercise books everywhere.
DAMN!
I was in London on Wednesday! Nooo! I’m GUTTED!!
A simple house drawing would be too obvious, so I think it’s a tree instead. Can’t wait to see what it is!
Can’t get to London….. but I’m guessing it’s a church or an atom
I’d love it to be a drawing of a massive bag of chips! … the irony
Looking forward to it! Keep kicking ass!
Col.
You used newspaper to cover it? That’s interesting.
I’m stuck in Canada. I would very much appreciate it if someone could get down there for me and enter my guess, which is a picture of Criss Angel levitating into Heaven to fight the angels and take God’s place as ruler of the universe. It’s in stick figure style, which makes it a simple image.
I have no belief in phsychic ability and am 250+ miles away, so if it’s an ironing board I’m screwed
Can I come, even if I am Russian? I will be there!
Thanks
That’s clearly a ruler in that case
always in london
people live in north england too you know
You already know what I think it is!
I am at a disadvantage as I live in south Africa…… however despite this minor detail I am quite proud to announce that I do in fact know what simple design the curator has selected to draw.
1. she used a black felt tip pen on white paper
2. she drew an atom (specifically a Lithium atom hence there will be 3 electrons drawn in an elliptical orbit around a central nucleus consisting of 3 protons and 4 neutrons
3. she drew this picture centre bottom of the page.
so there….
It’ s a cat! My housemate told me! but then he said mouse, or banana, or an elephant. He’s not very good is he?
Its a cat… its always a cat!!!
Damn it! I’m too far away with no free time
My guess is it’s a bus
Derren I think you should collect all the blog guesses for all the people who can’t make it!
OoOoh! I was playing to take the train up to central London… I’ll think about it!
Kris…
I had thought ‘boat’ before I finished reading the blog entry and before I’d clicked on the Comments.
Thank you for freaking me out.
HWTC
I wonder if there will be some subliminal messages around the museum to help us?
OK lets try and think this through. A female museum curator asked to draw a simple image… When Derren has done this sort of thing before he has said it can’t be a stick-man or anything like that as would be too obvious.
With all the exotic and interesting things this person must have seen, I’m guessing she will go for something quite mundane, and easy to draw under pressure (nobody want’s to look silly by drawing something unrecognisable). The term ‘simple design’ make me think of an inanimate object, so nothing animal or vegetable. My guess is either a cocktail glass or a piggy bank, or a globe.
Or maybe I’m completely wrong and it’s a bunny rabbit :O
its a tree!
or a cat/dog,
but im going with tree
@Kris: I was going to say a boat! Ha!! I think that may be because it’s the only thing I can draw.
I wish I could get there to take part.
It’s a train
A cat! A cat! It must be a cat!
Too bad I don’t live in the UK… Otherwise I’d probably be already at the museum
What’s with the red line in the picture? Confusing.
Hmmm Newspaper, why newspaper? got to be a reason for that, Ive never heard of a picture wrapped in newspaper……anyway my guess is of course Fish & Chips!
Oh lame! I was JUST in London a couple of days ago and now i’m back in the far away land of Leeds
i would have a loooooong swim from the U.S.!
I bet it’s a house.. the phrasing – “simple design”, you can’t design too many things.. you can “draw” a lot of things, but can “design” few.. the first thing that goes through my head when you say “simple design” is the sketch of a house…
Its a palm tree. Can see it clear as anything!I live in sunny Scotland so i`ve got no hope of coming down to see it.Oh well….
It’s a star – a shooting star
I really shouldn’t pay to travel to London just to see it and guess, but I so want to.
Im going to London literally tomorrow o.O
Erm…. *looks at the bigger map*
Damn.. it’s just out of reach of where I’ll be about >.< grr
Hm … nice. The way you say come … is that said the same way as you said once to your producer in that buss (robbie williams – behind the scenes) … that she should talk to the shrimp .. is it in that tone of voice?
You wont remember ofcourse … but erm … that was not a request …. that was a direct order … ehehehe …
I know there are people who sense these pictures quite well .. I’ve never tried. I think I will have trouble to open up from the right focus … I normallly dont visualize … I need to go to another area in myself to do so.
An area I now and then use but not when I adapt to normal life. It’s my comedy area. Oh well …. all emotions can be there. It’s not my bases.
I probably would sense a lot of stuff being in front of that pic except for the hidden pic.
Ow .. amazing … I see a wheel .. a bike it seems … the early ones. The wheel was the only thing I saw .. the rest added my own brain I guess. Yep, the wheel probably has been added as well, although I was not seeing anything from down there yet.
Now, if someones sees wires .. and how they should be connected… please let me know …
It’s a flower.
Just realised, that 3D printer (previous post) is at the science museum. Whatever the curator has drawn, Derren has probably already made a 3d model!
Is it open on sundays?
I won’t get down there as I’m too apathetic and badly-organised. Nevertheless I have a tingle that says it’s a flower. Apologies for wasting your time.
Looking at all the circular/spherical objects in the background of the photo, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s drawn something circular. Or is that too obvious a bit of suggestion?
Well I’m miles away (again!) but my guess is the female gender sign ie circle with cross underneath.
Looking forward to the new stuff,
Liz xx
Wish I could go but I can’t get up to London next week.
Hmm, if I was going to draw something relatively simple, I know I’d go for something like a cat, but I’m sensing something like a flower or a house. Something I myself would find easy to draw and something recognisable.
But I’m probably way off the mark…..
Good luck to all who try!
LC x
Ooh yay I just happen to be travelling down to London from Edinburgh to watch one of the Proms this weekend, will definitely be taking a slight detour before the concert!
Too far away :[ However I think it’s a ball. With a number on. Like a lottery ball :p
It’s an arrow in a circle
Sweet ! I’ll be taking a trip to London next wk!
From 1349 miles away in the middle of Alentejo under 40º degres… I saw stars
Maybe was the sun and beer, anyway …If I got it right please feel free reward me with great prizes.
Since I obviously have too many time to spare, or else I wouldnt spend the most of my days watching Derrens clips on the web and reading this blog, I also accept a job as a reward
Sadly I won’t be able to get to the city but I’m going to have a think about what the picture might be nevertheless…… Very excited about ‘The Events’…
I live in the north west and I am 15 so I will probs not be able to get down there but I sense that it is a simple drawing of the earth with the moon beside it.
Its a … uhmmm…. a ligthbulb. Thats my guess anyway.
I think she has drawn Stewie from Family Guy
289 miles…. I’ll guess from here…
Mmmm… Something round/spherical… Like a sun/planet/ball….?
If this is an “experiment into psychic ability”, why can’t we have a go from the comfort of our own homes?
Ellis 3?
Definitely… maybe… some four legged creature?
A picture of a old cassete or video cassete : )
Canada is just a little too far to stare at a newspaper covered drawing. I’m going to guess it’s a circle with a dot in the center or a bullseye target.
I’m thinking a globe…
I don’t need to go to London to guess. I have the same psychic powers as the greatest psychic ever to live. Ever. Yes, Mystic Meg. The picture in which has been drawn is of a clock, showing the time as 6:44 i do believe.
It’s quite interesting how similar some of these guesses etc, are when a lot of these posts weren’t up on the blog beforehand. My msg is way down the list and yet there were only 6 posts up there when I left my comment! Now what is there….over 100?!
Deliberate perhaps…..?
LC x
Hmm… it’s a competition to win tickets, and Derren asked the nice lade (Ellis?) to draw it, so you can be she’s drawn exactly what he wanted her to… but I doubt he’ll give us any obvious clues as he probably won’t want to give away thousands of tickets…
I can’t see it being a cat, boat, banana, or any other previous suggested drawings Mr B has used… the fact it’s wrapped in newspaper leads me to think that might’ve been part of the suggestion he gave to the curator… so I reckon it might be the obvious – a bear on a unicycle juggling 3 pineapples. Or a fish and chips.
There\’s part of me that\’s saying;
You\’ve already taken 2 days off this week to re-read Derren Brown’s book and research all of the people he mentions in it.
And there\’s another part of me saying;
It\’d take an hour and a half on the train maximum to get there. Just do it.
Hmm, the wonder of your own minds persuasion, nevermind other people’s…
@LairyT – Certainly
If anyone wants me to and, if I’m permitted to, I’ll cast votes on your behalf if you let me know what you think the picture might be.
@Donnavan – What makes you say that? I’d like it if it were right
It’s the entire schematics for a boeing 737 with a cute little doodle of a flower in a pot in the space beween the fuel tanks and the luggage compartment…….
Hmm …. a bus! No, no, wait a sec .. a house! … or a cat?
So far, I’ve noticed that circular objects (Globe/ball/planet/wheel/orange/sun/lightbulb/flower) have been suggested the most, and there ARE definitely a lot of circles in the vicinity of the picture.
Not that Derren would EVER want to influence anyone in ANY way, of course.
Just found out I am going to miss half of The Events
cos I’ll be in Las Vegas. If I miss out on the tour tickets going on sale too I shall be inconsolable
Love the responses here, but the real question should be… when I read this today what did I draw on a shiny yellow post-it note in work???
Ha, tell me that!!
Man wearing top hat and tails riding a unicycle, possibly holding something, like an umbrella.
random.
My brother thinks it’s a match that has been lit.
I can sense an Apple, no idea why though!
@LairyT – Certainly, let me know when you’ve used your best Psychic powers to work it out and I’ll post it when I’m there
If anyone else wants me to…and if I’m permitted to, I can add your psychic prediction to the Science Museum box when I go up there
…I said that twice. I thought the first one hadn’t worked you see
I think it is an arrow
Derren, I dont want to go to london so i’m quite happy to guess from here.
Its a clock, with the hands at 9 o’clock of course.
Next challenge please.
x
Love it, Ginger. I’m definately going now!
I think a cat or house or is that too obvious?! Thinking about this is going to drive me mad! Maybe she has drawn the lovely derren! Lol, i suppose that is not really simple though! So gutted i cant nip there to post my idea! There are a lot of circular guesses…
I agree with all the non-londoners that these should be held in other places, such as LEEDS!!! Hehe
Hm, apparently people like guessing what it is ….
The wires … have been connected and music is playing …
Since I didn’t have time to go to the science museum today, I have used logic to have a guess…
On the bollards in the road, there is a symbol missing, which is a circle with an arrow pointed diagonally down to the left
As there are lots of circular designs behind the picture and arrows leading to it…
And as it is a “design” not a picture…
My guess is a circle with an arrow pointed diagonally down to the left
I think it’s a rocket!
I think it’s the four of diamonds…
or maybe a cat with his tail sticking up some and stripes across his belly
According to twitter we’ll be able to making guesses online as well.
If she’s been following this blog at all then it will be a tea cup or tea pot!
It’s an aeroplane?
I think a cat or house or is that too obvious?! Thinking about this is going to drive me mad! Maybe she has drawn the lovely derren! Lol, i suppose that is not really simple! So gutted i cant nip there to post my idea! There are a lot of circular guesses…
I agree with all the non-londoners that these should be held in other places, such as LEEDS!!! Hehe
I’m 4.2% certain it’s a picture of Martine McCutcheon knitting a scarf
i dont have any psychic ability.
but i’m sure derren knows what it is.
Can’t see myself making it to the Science Museum – am guessing it\’s a bird of some sort
… or a car!!
Hmmm…. can’t get to take part so I’ll just have to have a punt from home. I’m guessing it’s an arrow.
Kind of interesting where it’s placed. On a sort of walkway facing towards the barrier so there’s no way to look at it head-on. You’d have to view it from below, or craning your neck from the side. Is that so lots of people can see it at once, or so you can’t concentrate on the picture itself without getting loads of peripheral stuff at the same time.
It’s a Science Museum so I reckon she’s drawn something to promote science. It’s probably the planet Saturn with a nice, big circular ring (like the one on the map).
No-one seems to have said this yet, so I thought I’d let you guys know- Derren put on Twitter:
“There will be a chance to try this online too, if you can’t get to the museum, nearer to the show going out.”
Yayyy! Now I don’t have to make the long trek down to London!
Hmm, if he hasn’t really had a chance to influence what was drawn and perhaps doesn’t know what it is, then how can he influence us to guess correctly?
I suspect that this exercise is in fact completely random and the objective is to ensure that the people who (by chance) happen to guess correctly pass onto the next stage, do so with the false belief that they are perhaps psychic. This would make them more susceptible to whatever he has in store for them!
so loads of us cant get there, derren should put somethin in other museums around the country so we could all visit……. doi get a prize though for semi second guessing what he would be doin next phillis…. i said he would pull a stunt like this in the “lost competion, winner found” 19th post… we are all wrong its gonna be an alien
My first thought was a cat….because that’s what everyone draws, isn’t it? But then I thought maybe a pen or pencil. This is an interesting new layer on the Events. Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds (even if I’m watching from the sidelines)
Well since it’s time to take a random guess I would have to use my senses and say…
A rose.
Or at least some sort of flower possibly.
Well – As my “it’s a ruler” comment didn’t get posted, I can only assume I was right
- oops sorry Gaz, no idea where that one went, not intentional – the odd one does tend to get lost in the spam filters.
Phillis
But then, being the blind arse that I am, I didn’t see that it *did* get posted. Balls.
Could you not wait another fortnight?
Well I hope there will be more stuff to take part in…
What I don’t understand is that there are still people who think the lovely Derren is trying to be psychic. Goodness sakes, watch his shows… it’s all explained there. No-one is trying to be psychic, it’s a fun experiment… isn’t that right Mr. Brown? lol
Well excited about this!! Yippeee!!
- No Hannah, Derren IS psychic and will melt the brain of anyone who argues with him.
– Phillis
Ohhhh, I’m thinking I know where I’m going as the last big thing before school starts =D
I vote a shoe
why couldnt of this been there last week i was in london lol. its a simple rocket design im not sure it is but its something to do with science. Derren if your reading this you probably know what it is already, because your a genius lol.
Terry’s Chocolate Orange. 100% definitely maybe.
Was going to go to The Science Museum on Tuesday so this will make the day even sexier! Can’t wait for the show it sounds amazing already! And no one even knows whats happening in it yet! Only Mr.Brown could melt our minds before the mind melting show begins
@Enigma
Thanks for saying you’d cast my vote. My first thought was it’s a boat, a simple one like kids draw with a sail. Don’t worry if you aren’t able to vote for me as i have also seen Twitter where it says we can take part online nearer the time. Very nice of you though
still not sure what the stuck to my sofa site is all about. It’s mentioned in the Man U score predictions site too. Won’t the bookies be angry about that? Does it mean the game is fixed/rigged?

As this was being posted I was on the train back home after a few days in London. Missed it by an hour. Aarrrrrrrghhhhhhh!
After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that it’s a small Giraffe trapped inside a bottle of Fanta.
Fruit Twist, naturally.
Managed to brave the crowds of screaming children and made it to the museum today, woop!
was a bit weird, it was the only place in the museum that wasn’t packed with people and I couldn’t find directions either.
Happy I got a chance to take part though
Ok it’s like this…
If DB knows what’s in the picture – than I say it’s a face.
But if she is really the the only one knowing what it is, than I wouldn’t even bother guessing.
Simple as that.
A watch? An Eye? Something circular anyway.
A circular saw??
Woah at the amount of comments
x
We went today and spent so long mooching round the rockets and the steam engines on the ground floor (and puzzling over the weirdness that is the basement?!) that when we headed off to the other floors to find the drawing, it was closing time! Well, it was half an hour to closing time, but apparently they round up the sheep well beforehand and keep us penned-in at ground level. So, do we go back or wait for the web guess?
Lol @ lauralou
@ Enigma
When are you going there?
If you dont mind i might pass on a guess for you to post!
I did the 2 post thing too! I hate it when that happens!
Okay – since my last comment I’ve been doing some more thinking.
1. When it airs, Derren will correctly sense what has been drawn before its revealed.
2. We don’t know how the instructions were given to the curator (well I don’t anyway) it may have been “a simple design” or they may have been more priming so that Derren already has a pretty good idea what was drawn. If not, I suspect he could cold-read it from the curator before it’s unveiled.
3. The previous commenter who pointed out that he doesn’t want us all to get it correct is probably right, so I doubt we are being given blatant clues. Our correct guessing is random.
4. Can’t resist guessing. Simple design = not an object or animal. Can’t be a trademark, likely to be religious symbol, cross is too simple. So, Star of David.
I think its a cube
With the retro font for The Events and the ‘simple design’ instructions, I immediately think of iconic 50s kitchenalia. Toasters, chairs, coffee tables that sort of thing xD
Just a quick guess;
Hot Air Balloon.
Peace People!
I stupidly think it’s a pizza slice.
Come to Worcester or Birmingham please, Mr.Brown! =D
An eye or the London Eye… or sumink.
Please pass me my tinfoil hat.
Cheers!
Oh my goodness, I actually found myself trying to find hidden messages in the grafitti I saw on the way home from work, total madness (I don’t even live in the UK!!!)
Loving the events so far and can’t wait to see what the mind blowing Darren brown has in store for us over the next few weeks. I can’t make it down to london from scotland but I am definitely seeing a star of david design. I think the curator is surrounded by science daily and would look to a spiritual level for inspiration. Please read this out when I’m proved right.
I’m confused enough thank you. I flicked on the television whilst on holiday in Spain and found an advert of Derren Brown talking backwards! That seemed like an Event in itself!
…I’m guessing the signs leading to the painting will have subliminal advertising, in which Derren already gave a verbal suggestion to the curator before drawing her masterpiece… anywhere close?
It’s a cat i bet
lots of people said cat…. i say… um.. dog! or mouse! hmm…
Warning ‘Hazchem’ chevrons..?
Managed to get to the Science Museum on Saturday. Very interesting to sit and watch the amount of people who had their photo taken with either the covered picture in the background, or standing next to the instruction podium. Myself included.
No darn paper there through. I had to improvise.

DNA?
@Phillis
Any news on entering our guesses online?
I think it’s a red square. In fact, I’m pretty certain it is.
Reason being that Derren is standing in front of a big red square on the video where he talks about the competition, and that it would also fit in with the whole red/black thing.
Just my two cents of course!!
I think it’s a poland flag lol :/
…boat? XD
Its either a striped cat
or
a mouse with a stripey tail!
(was watching derren brown: the gathering, and he said something about \”draw something simple\” like on this, first he drew a stripey cat (wich was right) second he drew a mouse with stripey tail, wich was wrong, and the gathering is on after the events, so maybe!
)
it is a cat
Deffo getting stripes.
The Olympic Rings popped into my head today for some reason… Maybe it was Spandau’s Gold reference?
No point guessing – it’s impossible! I reckon Derren had already instilled in her mind what to draw before she drew it – but that’s the clever bit!
who got the bigger attendence, BANKSYS
Interesting idea – and i did have ago drawing the picture so you never know I might get a second on TV – but the museum itself was awesome – if not plastered with circles everywhere – deception, deceite, something tells me derrens about….
At first I was set on drawing a tractor, but ‘cleared my mind’ and went with a car. I’m pretty sure that’s what it is.
I reckon it’s a boat. But meh.
