OK – enough talk about all this hidden encoded stuff. How about things that are so TINY compared to things that are MASSIVE.
“This image has the most impact if you make it fill your whole screen and then turn off all the lights in the room” suggests Olbrich. “Stare at it for a while and try to imagine that you’re out in space looking back through some kind of bizarre porthole.”
Go to Forgetomori to check the image in higher resolution versions. And speaking of higher resolution, while I was contemplating this image I started thinking of what would be the size of the Apollo spacecraft travelling the distance: 250,000 miles.
It would certainly be so tiny that it would not be visible, being less than a pixel in size. The obvious question then is: what should be the image’s minimum resolution to have the Apollo spacecraft appear as a single pixel?

That’s actually quite thought-provoking, isn’t it.
Amazing!
Clearly shows how small we really are, but our minds can hold information about the whole universe.
i find this image (http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2706/spaceb.jpg) always makes me feel super tiny.
I use it in class when I’m teaching about the Solar system to try and give the kids a sense of how massive the universe is.
The image would be HUGE! Like, 3,626,374 (rounded up) pixels across! You know, roughly speaking…. If my archaic maths is correct… :s
And if that’s not right…. I’ll submit a second answer of REALLY REALLY BIG!
That’s excellent! I watched “In the Shadow of the Moon” yesterday, the documentary about Apollo in the words of the astronauts themselves. It’s awesome, highly recommend it. Lots of footage and detail I’d not seen before.
20,000×20,000 to see it in a single pixel
Even better to see it compared like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv6OtEnIAQk I think it is an amazing video.
Hmmm, tiny versus massive? Like the tiny smily face in the lower left hand cornor of the massive blog… see what you’ve done, I can concentrate on nothing but finding random patterns where there are none,
Sit back and laugh and watch us all be paranoid and go a little mad!
The image would need to be even larger if you were to take the same type of shot with the sun vs the earth, where the sun would be huge, and the earth would be barely bigger than a pixel.
Hm it’s kind of scary. I mean what is after the universe? It can’t go on forever, how is it possible? But something has to be there…there can’t be just a brick wall. What is beyond it?
Oh my head hurts…
u guys have made me way too paranoid to ignore those hidden encoded stuff!!! *is now wondering the significance of TINY and MASSIVE*
I have also developed an unhealthy mistrust of the government, news bulletins and respectable news broadcasters as well as this blog! – i suppose that was the mind controlling interactive purpose all along huh?! well Mr Brown and crew… im obviously incredibly suggestible…!
ps… if this actually is just a normal fascinating FYI blog post – WOW thats impressive and very thought provoking – thanks!
now – back to figuring out the codes….
@Olivia
Why does there have to be anything?
It’s only normal human perception that gives us ideas of endings, beginnings, outsides and insides.
When you’re talking about the universe as a whole it doesn’t necessarily mean anything to think in these terms, just as it doesn’t do to think of here and there when we’re dealing with quantum ideas.
Suspension of disbelief is a big part of big physics.
If you want to see just how tiny we are, then watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAVjF_7ensg
Then, look at this image:
http://z-e-r-o.up.seesaa.net/image/Hubble_Ultra_Deep_Field_Black_point_edit.jpg
Then remember that each speck of light isn’t a Star, it is a Galaxy, holding Billions of Stars.
Z?
For the Apollo spacecraft to appear as a single pixel in this picture you would need a horizontal screen resolution of 20 million pixels and a vertical screen resolution of 15 million pixels.
I hope this is the second hidden competition!
sorry ment 20,000,000
For another incredible indication of scale see this YT video about the large scale structure of the universe. As Andrew King said about that awesome Hubble Deep Field image, remember that each dot you see is a galaxy. Also bear in mind that the first image apparently represents just 1.5% of the whole universe. If this doesn’t leave you speechless then nothing will.

isnt this the basis of homeopathy? hehe!
Does make that ladder to the moon seem all the more unlikely… darn!
that “we are here” video inside that link is just absolutely amazing. Every human on the planet should see that.
I actually feel enormous massive looking at this image .. …. Even when I’m looking through this little window from my space craft .. Ofcourse, I can see myself as pretty small when I start to think/compare .. but not via plainly staring at this image … even if I don’t feel my body …or maybe because I don’t feel my body nor myself .. I can’t compare myself then with something out there, can I?
You can be the universe you know .. if you enlarge your self … supersize .. expand your self … be one with all, you know that saying .. it is true. We all have moments or will have them in which we will feel like that .. connected .. It’s not about being small or massive I think .. it’s not about size … it’s not visable .. It’s about feeling beyond your human body … from the…
I feel tiny when I see my pathetic self at times going out on some structure which I dont approve of .. in reality ..
Knowing the never ending space up there does not really make me feel small .. nor tiny .. The universe is not size .. it’s empty for the main part as far as our eyes can see ..
Resolution huh? I’m not going to calculate, Phyllis … no way .. not today anyway, my 300 euro car made my day!
Their website??
It’s amazing to think from looking at that image, that the moon’s gravity affects the tides and the sea on earth from so far away. Just like DB, the universe never ceases to amaze me!
Mayzee- I like that very much. I had the picture of the hubble telescope image of the galaxies on my pc for a while. For some reason feeling that small makes me feel safe. A mate said it had the opposite effect on them and they felt quite scared.

Me thinks that perhaps this image is missing the sun.
Which if it was there, would block our view of it…
Same size? or perhaps more samey then you’d usually care to realise.
LOL…
Dougal… I’ll go through it with you one last time…
these cows are really small,
the cows out there in the field are really far away.
Captain Frantic- Woah that is amazing! Is it me or does it look like a brain (kind of). Maybe we’re all just little brain cells inside a huge brain that is a brain cell inside another brain and on and on and on to infinity and beyond :-/ And inside our brains…
I’m sure there’s a philisophical theory or something in there but far too tired to word it well.
I am on here waaaay too much lately. Any longer and I might actually start thinking. I think I’d better go (see it’s started already ) :-p
