Now we have a Scientific Paper which finally tells us why people support their false beliefs! Right, the next 3 step must be education, education, education! Our children armed with these scientific knowledge in the future will be immune to the psychologically engineered mass media and socio-psychologically enhanced propaganda of the actually established power! It must work, it is so exciting! Great work, thx. We know of course, the road is long and hard, but we have scientific knowledge and the magic word HOPE and... and... several billions of people who rather completely ignores what doesn't fit in their word view, and a rather few people in power who just like it that way... At last a relief! Now we have a Scientific Paper which finally tells us why people support their false beliefs!

So claiming it sprang unformed from the general public's need to rationalise an exising war is a little disingenuous, to say the least.
