Sometimes, on an off night, I feel like the guy in the red.
This is just fascinating. I love how, when presented with a coin vanish, he goes straight for the other hand, just like we all do.
Thank you Steve.

Hahahahaha!
Japanese television is the best!
I’ve been wondering what my life is missing, the answer, a monkey in dungarees!
got so distracted by the picture, that I forgot to watch the video..
hey, hey… looking good with the beard there mr Coops!
He hugs you all the time and eat fruits from random parts of the room?
The monkey’s not so dumb. It actually spots what the entire audience doesn’t in the handkerchief through the ears routine. He keeps going for the magicians hand wearing the false thumbtip even after the hanky has supposedly “vanished” in to the ear – and then on reappearance is still more interested in the thumbtip, and the magician is desperate for the monkey not to rip it off and show anyone. THis is no worse than having to perform magic for five year olds. Honestly
I knew your show lacked a certain something… the editor going mad with the cartoon sound-effects.
I think we should all bring swanee whistles to your next show to heighten the drama
That was the worst kind of animal humiliation: putting him in denim dungarees.
Surely he deserves a nice tuxedo?
So cute bless, luv the way he hugs the guy after the throat trick
I got confused, thinking the post would be about Coops, then realised it was about a monkey…same thing? Only joking, nice pic.
Coops is so pretteh.
This is a bit like the video from Birmingham zoo isn’t it?! Magicians must think we’re just as hilarious and cute as that monkey. Cos his reactions were just ilke ours.
I know that monkey should be swinging from trees in the rainforest somewhere (perhaps so should we!), but I still kidna want to take him home. He’s so huggy!
Probably taught to hug through repeated blows to the head when he did anything else, of course (he cries himself to sleep)…
Hahaa that clip gave me good giggles, soo love that monkey´s reactions
Wow, Coopsy starts to look like The Zappa! looks great with beard, don´t tell me you borrowed one of Derrens though
Gorgeous picture, I have to say.
Oh wait, there is a linkt too….
Oooooooo, I just realised the earth-shattering significance of the chimpanzee and Mr Coops…
ノバーチェリーです。。。
おほほほほほほ!
*whisper*
Ok…sorry but who’s Coops? :S
i want that monkey, its the cutest thing ever. I think this could be inspiration for Derren’s next show
The random insertion of Mike Oldfield freaked me AND my parrot out. Now I shall spend ten minutes trying to convince him that monkeys in dungerees are not immediately life-threatening… Also, it did sound like Mr.Magician said “Coopanese” during the Phantom-Of-The-Opera-Trick…! x
@MaGz oh really … he’s the original, one and only owner of this blog that the evil Mr Brown hijacked.
And it seems DB has been treating Coops like a fine wine. Stomp the junk out, trap him in a small space, leave him to age nicely and then out comes a very fine vintage.
Cheers
Rob
Ah yes! This is Pankun the chimp from a TV show Pankun and James (a bulldog). They are given tasks to do together like to buy some cakes or go fishing – it’s hilarious. They once went into a lift and stayed in there dancing about for about 15 minutes before someone else entered the lift, pushed the down button and finally moved down!!
omg. Is that a photo of coops with a beard?
So you can see our inside then??? We can not do what the monkey does (not allowed by those magicians and such ..)
He’s adorable, he learned not to see to his normal self for sure otherwise he would already have had the candy e.g…. Or had gone from the stage to check some of that interesting stuff all around .. hanging somewhere upside down ..
He constantly had this look on his face .. I know you’re tricking me .. What’s the fun of all of this ? Unless there’s something nice to eat/drink ofcourse … and if they dont give him that … sad look in his eyes pops up ..
Cool that he wanted to check underneath the table as well and inside the ear of the guy. And the response to the ‘water’ falling out of the glass. I wonder how they tutored him ..
Hm … this can’t be Coop unless he suffers from a bad case of MPS on the outside ..
Or wait (suspicious ….) .. is it a trick then? Does Coops do tricks too, but different ones … Can he TRANSFORM?
That’s a really fascinating clip – i have to be honest, occasionally I want to feel like the monkey… he’s just seen something so totally beyond his comprehension, something so magical he utterly can’t believe it. His reaction to the full/empty milk cup was priceless! I wonder if he goes home and thinks about what he’s seen, about where that watermelon could possibly have come from, or where that glass could possibly have gone.
I hope he’s been inspired in some little, tiny way. Not to push swords through peoples necks, though.
Nice one flapjack for the 2 quality jokes! Perfect phrasing. More flapjack!
oops, chimp, not monkey (sorry Pankun)
Awww! I don’t know how, but everything from Japan is always super cute! The sound effects, the Chimp’s bafflement and…dungarees!?
Also, Coops is ROCKING that goatee! He has the brooding look perfected
lol all the sound effects and dubed laughing is soooo annoying! Luv ya derren
I’m impressed how clever that chimp is! Just like someone said, not worse then the average five year old.
And Coops? He has started to grow a goatee too?! Is it like the old wisdom says, that master and dog starts to look alike after a while? *grin*
Oh no, that wasn’t fair really… It looks good on you Coops! Really! Me likes
Ooh, he nods a bit like Brown at times does. I thnk Derren meant to say the blue pants ..
Don’t think I’m an animal rights nutter or anything, but I really don’t like this clip. The picture of Coops is better (He’s joined the goatee clan! Rock on!)
Epic find.
Japanese T.V. + Magic + Trained Money + Coops = Epic Win.
My favourite Japanese T.V. show at the moment however is Gaki No Tsukai ^_^
For anyone interested, check out their ‘Don’t Laugh’ Batsu games (Batsu means punishment
) and also their ‘Silent Library’ games (yes, THEY invented it, not MTV…). And don’t worry there are plenty of vids with translated subtitles too.
What you’ll find is that the ‘Don’t Laugh’ Batsu games are the best and most hilarious examples of negative suggestion you’ll ever find.
I found it, as someone put on YT ‘embarrassing enjoyable’! It’s amazing how the chimp reacted to everything. So cute…..and talking of cute…..nice piccy indeed Mr Coops! Mieow!

On the one hand, it’s really cute, and fascinating to see how the chimp responds in much the same ways as a human would.
On the other hand, sorry to be the wet blanket here, but I feel sort of sorry for the poor little thing (and yeah, it’s a child chimp — doesn’t look more than four or five years old, while they reach maturity at around 13). The constant hugging and ‘smiling’ — part of it (mostly towards the magician) is begging/submissive behavior, but part of it, mostly towards the older man, is seeking reassurance. It is obviously entertained at first, but after a while, it gets visibly nervous.
Also, I don’t like seeing animals in human clothes. At least they didn’t try to fit shoes on its feet…
…Yeah I fancy Coops even more now.
The goatee isn’t QUITE on par with Mr Brown though…
Aah! Hahahahaha I fear I’m no smarter than a chimp. Adorable, disturbing and amusing. I’m a bit jelaous at him though – he got to investigate everything thoroughly – I just get to watch and applaud mostly.
Funny film, although even on a bad day I doubt you compare. Nice picture coops, perfect for a portrait. suiting long hair, and the beardy bit, but not sure about the tash, in need of a little refining. This is what happens when you eat eyebrow hair, it sprouts up everywhere.
I agree with Berber Anna..I found this video upsetting. I watched 2 minutes of it and had to turn it off. I can understand why alot of people would find it funny and cute but, in my eyes, it’s just not right.
I agree, Jess. I never liked those PG ads either!
Oh! My goodness how sweet is that chimpanzee….I want him. Nice picture of Coops by the way….thanks for that.
Coops is extremely gorgeous.
Sorry to be a damp squib but I couldn’t watch the vid either. Try and watch Monkey Life (or Monkey Business) on any of the animal channels, which is about the Monkey World ape sanctuary in Dorset. They have a lot of chimps that are ex-performers.
Many performing animals are treated very well by human standards but they aren’t human, they need to be with their own kind, especially as they mature. If you saw one of the chimps playing and interacting with other chimps on Monkey Life you wouldn’t be able to watch these videos again, you’d see the animal doesn’t look happy or relaxed, just from the body language.
Urgh I sound like I’m one of those people who has to put a downer on others’ fun but I don’t mean it that way.

lol wicked
I love Japanese tv & suchlike It’s crazy stuff
I’m quite a big lover of all things Japanese, Have been since I was a kid! My fave japanese things have to be tamagotchi’s (got a colour one recently, far better than the old one’s they’re so dull &boring now!!!) and I love pocky (our version are called Mikado sticks they’re yummy) glad we have an english version now as I could only get pocky sticks in China town in Manchester & I don’t live there anymore & only visit a few times a year!
You should definately try either pocky sticks or Mikado sticks they’re lovely
This post reminded me of a book I read a while ago called Wild Justice. Great book, well worth a read
With the flowing locks and facial fur, Coops is looking a bit like old-school Yanni. And I happen to think Yanni is hot as hell…..
Why is it “Tricks for Coops”? Is that code for something, or is there a connection that I’m not aware of? (…of which, I am not aware).
thanks,
chris
coops, you look like the chap from I.Basterds, Tarintinos new film in you picture at the top of all this chatting stuff
