Watched the show last night – and the response was been overwhelmingly positive: 75% luvvin’ it, 15% happy but confused (Derren likes that part), and 10% hating it and shouty. With apologies from DB to that 10%, we now move to Week Two. Enjoy.

Well as far as I’m concerned I loooooved it and yet I’m still confused, but that’s probably part of the reason why I loved it :p
What women want poster… lol! How random.
I agree Elise! Where would the fun be if we got it all?! I loved it! Still got no idea what the hell was going on tho!! Lol!!
The 10% only watched it to complain any way so you can scrap them!
Absolutely loved the latest Event. Since watching it (for the 3rd time!) and reading a lot of the theories and complaints etc from people, i still dont know what i believe! Even before the “reveal show” on Friday, my thoughts were that it was probably some mixture of probability theory and Derren’s amazing ability to pull off the best tricks/stunts! But alas, Friday’s show did nothing but make me confused! brilliant DB, absolutely brilliant! i look forward to this week’s show, and am desperately wishing payday would come more quickly so i can get tickets to Enigma in Liverpool!
I knew I would still be suspicious and confused afterwards and that’s the way it should be. I was also entertained and enthralled and even uplifted. And the one big thing I’ve learned – and it’s really valuable in part of my work – enjoy being part of a team, don’t resent the slower bods (I get ratty with plodders, I’m sorry) because what we get at the end will be more than I can achieve on my own. My favourite thing I’ve learned from the blog this week is deffo that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Youz is special, you know.
PS Derren has become a bit of a Twitter budgie eh? Them’s a lot of Twitters lately. Funny.
Was very funny at the very least although my girlfriend is convinced that it was a load of kak. tbh, even if its not true or legal I like to think that number 3 was true ^^
Well Played Mr Brown.
(btw ENiGmA was ace)
Congratulations to all the team, media frenzie would not be enough to say about what this has caused on the internet and in the media.
More viewers than the final of Big Brother – Whose the Daddy !!
Roll on the remaining shows.
Warmest Regards
Dr Robert Dodge.
P.S. Even though i thoroughly enjoyed the Event, i will be slightly upset if it is just a camera trick… i mean, this is Derren, surely he would do something a bit more original than that?
I’d have to be part of the 10% if I had to choose, sorry! Still very much looking forward to the rest of the series though
5m viewers and huge press attention – mission accomplished! Well done DB & team.
The next Events look similarly intriguing – personally can’t wait for the “breaking the casino” episode, as it looks like Paul Wilson from The Real Hustle will be making an appearance! Also potentially useful as I fly out to Vegas the next day…
lol… a great hour of entertainment, but I can’t say I cared for the misdirected (read: incorrect) mathematics
Looking forward to being stuck to my sofa!
Still – good fun, and I learned all about non-transitive games
Hah, the lottery was a good idea, Derren, but it wasn’t up to your usual standard. I don’t think anyone expected anything other than an illusion but what exactly was the point in making an hours “explanation” show with no mouse, no knife and no explanation? A-Level maths defeats Deep Maths.
And then the percentage that watched it on you tube partially … some fairly importants parts missed in that but hey … we got an impression at least … but erm .. I did not buy Brown’s theory ofcourse …. The illusion remains … no matter what Brown does/say … he is part of the illusion …
Ofcourse .. thy shall not judge if you haven’t seen the whole thing …. we will remain in a slightly more humble vision till then … ehehe …
Nation wide control … hm … Brown says to those (already hanging on the couch and not having the energy to zapp or get up anyhow) … I control you .. you have been on the couch for half an hour already … you could not get up … and you can still not get up .. I control you … OH MY GOD! the couch sitters then start to think
If Derren Brown really did predict the lottery why did he not show us his prediction before the lottery result. And there is your answer ,show your balls before the draw
And welcome back to Who Wants to be a Millionaire. So.. for the final question to win one million pounds.
How did Derren Brown predict the National Lottery results on Wednesday the 9th of September 2009? Did he:
A) Form a syndicate of 24 people, threaten their lives off a cliff in order to induce fear and will-power. But to then relax them enough for the group to auto-write the predicted numbers?
B) Send Agent Coops to Camelot headquarters with weighted balls in his pocket with an assignment to shag his way through two security guards and Alan Dedicoat to infiltrate the lotto machine? Or….
C) The unknown element of tricky and deception?
What did I hear you say? Phone a friend! Do you know Andy Nyman?
Back after the break!
Probability, Nine times out of ten, it’s an optical illusion!
About the ‘deep maths’ mentioned a couple of times – like many I assumed the coin game explanation was total hogwash but it is actually true. Although very counter-intuitive (to my mind at least). A bit like the Monty Hall problem in many respects. But without goats.

Those who were unimpressed by the trick (I don’t see how you can be; rather than thinking up just one way to predict the National Lottery, Derren thought up TWO! He over delivered!) know this……The Event pulled in more viewers than the National Lottery itself.
NOW are you impressed???
@Jessxxx – er, not really no. The Wednesday lottery draw is hardly a massive ratings pull itself, and Derren’s Event had been trailed for ages – and was on 5 channels simultaneously. I’d have been very surprised if he hadn’t got more viewers
But the Friday show had huge viewers I think, and it deserved to. The whole Event was a mahoosive success in terms of news coverage etc, can’t deny that. I’m sure it achieved everything DB and team wanted and more, and I think that’s fantastic. Just didn’t do it for me unfortunately.
@Single Serving Jack – I do agree with some of your comments. But I’m rather more suspicious about the lack of news coverage. All media stemmed from Channel 4. Think how the public and tabloid papers would react if their had thought Camelot Ltd was corrupt or a mathematical probability system or code was found to predict the lottery. If anyone of these were true the media would have jumped on it and Camelot or the BBC would have sued Objective Productions or Channel 4. DB is the master of misdirection and tricky. The key element to all of this is – Why did he not show us his prediction before the lottery results, if Derren really could predict the lottery? His reasoning towards Camelot legally wouldn’t allow it, just doesn’t hold up!
woooo, finally got on the blog. fridays show was good but i still have my doubts well so does every paper in this country i didnt think it would have this much impact well done Derren and team cant wait till fridays show
But then again none of the above really matters! Derren and the Cooper’s collective are jumping with joy over the fact that we are talking about it still. I’m pretty sure he’s elated and rolling in money as we write! And if you, yes you DB are reading this on your upgraded iphone, I know you can not stop grinning right this minute!
Loved the show last week; great fun and some excellent set pieces – not too sure about “Deep Maths” – how do you get an average of 1 or 49 with 24 people unless they ALL choose that number? What the hey – really looking forward to be stuck to sofa etc.
BTW – silly question, is there any truth in the The Sun story “Lotto predicted before Christmas” ?
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/2637434/Derren-Brown-predicted-Lotto-result-before-Xmas.html
I noticed on DB’s blog him talking about doing something in Oxford Street on an open top bus when the Xmas lights were up and the Sun story talks about kids choosing the numbers last year, it was shown on the Thursday recording but dropped for “live” Friday show- read it on the link above.
PS – it seems to tie in with “snowflake” teaser – as that was the theme of the lights in Oxford Street
Derren I´ve been following your shows for a while,so don´t get me wrong if i make a criticism for this one.
This isn´t the Derren Brown i know, you have done better than just camera tricks before.
I remember those great chess matches aginst the Grand Masters,or the real maths involved in “The System”.
I hope the Casino Event will be more like those than the lottery show.
Ignore the naysayers. The Events is hot – no-one in their right mind expected you the reveal to, well, reveal.
Go, Derren – more please!
I’ve loved everything you’ve done Derren!
Especially the lottery prediction! It was amazing!
Can’t wait for the show this Friday!!
A superb stunt (no matter how it was done) which has certainly got the whole of the UK talking about Derren (rather impressively).
I don’t think for one minute that this was camera tricks – there was too much trickery in the adverts leading up to the event, backwards play, effects, etc – all the adverts themselves contained camera tricks and I think this was probably the biggest misdirection of the whole trick to make people think that it was a camera trick (when it wasn’t!).
And what’s this about a clip being aired in Nov 2008 of six children holding up the winning numbers?? So he predicted it nearly a year before it happened then??
Can anyone clarify?
I’m with the comments from people called Steve above, I was a little disappointed with this lottery stuff and the so called explanation show, I had to go watch some of the old Mind Control shows to remind myself how brilliant Derren is! But I’m totally looking forward to Friday and the following shows.
BOO to the shouty people, get a life! Great entertainment, looking forward to the rest of The Events. All will be revealed, no doubt…
I really enjoyed the show, even if the explanation was obviously flawed (as explained here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLph8TYHjOw )
Can’t wait to be glued to my sofa!
5 mill that watched … what a loss of brain power … He already controlled part of the nation … ehehehe …
He says … let’s ponder upon this … and so many more than during college do … Is it his charisma .. is it … erm ..brains looking for a brain that takes them on a little road trip … a little circle … (humans never notice that they are running in circles as we have learned on this bloque (french pronounciation ..) … erm … is it … the least obvious of all things ….. that what you would never ever would have come up with all by yourself ………………………………………
Hm? Yes …. you start to see it … it emerges .. from the brain …. a vision … so superb … beyond belief …
You are no longer in denial of your superb self ….
ENIGMA rocked btw! look forward to rest of series.
Well I have to say that I found myself feeling a little cheated by the Friday night show. Surely he hasn’t underestimated the audience!? I only hope that this isn’t a fall in quality but just a small part of something yet to come. I’m keeping the faith so to speak but think I may lose a little bit of whatever it is I have for Derren if this doesn’t turn out to be the case. With all the great things he’s amazed us with to date he has set his bar very high, I only hope that he hasn’t reached his peak or just tried to take it that step to far. At the moment I’m assuming and hoping for something more to come in a similar vain to the way he brings is stage shows together but time will tell. Either way good luck with the upcoming Events Derren. I’ll be on the edge of my seat. Hopefully stuck!
Steve says: A-Level maths defeats Deep Maths.
Steve maths, beyond what I have to do to pay my income taxes, defeats me
! Listen my grandfather, after watching the shows with me, said something wise to my cousin.
“Do you really think that man is really going to tell everyone how we was going to do it? He would have every lotto in the world after him and he would have to go in to hiding. You don’t ask what’s in Spam, hot dogs, or chili because you enjoy it so enjoy it and know your not going to win the lotto that easy.”
Now I have my grandfather asking when then next one comes on.
Fridays Event was the best demonstration of misdirection TV has ever seen (imho) and I loved every minute. Sadly however, I think some people may have overlooked the most ingenious ‘reveal’ Derren has ever performed. Derren has managed to get the whole world talking about his lottery prediction. There are so many explanations out here that no one ‘really’ knows what’s real and what isn’t. Derren Brown….nobody does it better….take a bow.
@ Zac…..I would also like to believe that there is some truth in option 3 but it seems we are definitely in the minority. I’ve had countless arguments and discussions with people over the years on the subject of the ‘possibility’ of ball fixing. These discussions always end up with people telling me that I’m “completely mad”, this of course may be true, but I guess what other people think about me is really none of my business. On the other hand, I also believed that reality TV voting wasn’t quite as ‘accurate’ as everyone thought it was and look what happened there…
I’ll admit i was slightly dissapointed with friday. Now i’m not here to complain but just to be honest.
But all in all I have no given up hope on this amazing entertainer
I’m still very excited for the rest of the events which i am sure will be great hits that will go down in history.
Derren will show his true skill on Friday by making half his audience disappear.
@CC – Very funny!!!
Question: On Friday, if Derren does manage to stick us all to our Sofa’s, how are we going to be able to call the show, as some of us may not have a Cordless phone!!
) I know I just being silly!! Roll on Friday, my other half doesn’t belive he will stick him to our sofa!! I have told him to wait and see *he he he*
)
I was so disappointed that I wasn’t stuck to my sofa.
I’ve been really looking forward to something like this, where I’d actually get to be hypnotised by Derren Brown and nothing happened at all. I’m glad he mentioned that it wouldn’t work on everyone, but I thought I ticked all the boxes: I’m creative, open, and I WANTED to be hypnotised!
