I don’t have a great dislike of CNN at all – but when 2 people are using modern microphones in high tech television studios is there any real need to scream at the interviewee like your life depends on it. Along with the dreadful questions posed it’s a classic case of trying to sensationalise an issue that actually needs calm and sensible debate. Oh and YES THE TITLE IS MEANT TO BE IRONIC!!!!

Slow news day for the blog? She was talking a little loudly, but the way you posed the entry made it sound like she got angry and was actually screaming at Dawkins, which of course, she wasn’t.
Please don’t get into the habit of linkbaiting. It’s deplorable and I know you guys are better than that.
(The questions *were* dreadful, and because there was no actual screaming, it was a waste of five minutes!)
- She wasn’t talking a little loudly she WAS shouting (RD: “I didn’t get that as your shouting rather loudly in my ear”) – treat the subject properly and stop trying to sensationalise it much like say…. MY HEADLINE. Sorry I know irony gets lost on some but we’re not a news source (neither is CNN by the looks of this) – we’re more “Daily Show” than that.

If I understand it correctly we’re all mutants baby.. each new generation is a new mutation of the one before it.. biological changes and environmental changes exert an influence over what each new generation of the human mammal can tolerate in order to survive and pass on the genetics that will determine the survival of the human race.. we’ll need it if we’re to survive the drastic climate change effects happening right now and in the years to come..

I watched this video yesterday and thought the same thing. “Why do they keep asking Dawkins questions about his atheism, when his new book is about evolution?” All the interviews that he has been doing recently have been up to the same tricks. I don’t know how Dawkins is able to keep so calm.
Ah, atheism, the one thing that in America, is considered worse than being a Muslim.
She didn’t really scream that much though, I was hoping/expecting a display like John Sweeney…

I’m glad he called her on it. Was she trying to paint him as some hard of hearing old fuddy-duddy? He sure proved her wrong.
It just seems that she was trying to hard hitting which comes off as rude, which it is, and it’s so sad. Yes I believe in God but my mother would smack me silly if I ever treated anyone as rude as that reporter.

This reminds me of a guy a shared an office with who would always shout on the telephone. There seems to be a attitude among some people such that if the person you are talking to is a long way off then you need to shout in order to be heard

You’ve got to love modern news/editorial shows. They bring on Prof. Dawkins, essentially to plug his new book, then have him answer rapid-fire questions about a topic that deserves far more serious and thoughtful debate than can be given on this type of show.
“Got to move on now, lots of questions to ask. We’re hoping for a good soundbite that we can trail for the next 24 hours. ‘Prof. Dawkins claims humanity is slime’. Yeah that one will do.”
What made them ask the ‘What religion would God have founded’ question? That’s insane!
Reminds me of a Christian surveyor who asked me ‘If God appeared to you, would you believe in Him?’

I feel sorry for Richard Dawkins. People have edited videos of him on youtube to make him look stupid. The people who do this should realise they wouldn’t need to do that unless he was making a good point that threatened their belief system! Why ignore the facts

This is a facinating subject but would be more suited to a face to face discussion over a longer period of time. Can you really discuss the intracacies of religion and evolution with a woman screaming at you to ‘keep it brief’?

Bizarrely reminded me of Chris Morris’ truculent news anchor in some of his Brass Eye stuff.
He answered those appauling questions quite wonderfully, though. I could listen to him speak about evolution all day. What an incredible man.

I was expecting much worse from the title of this post but she certainly has got some attitude on her! She’d make an interesting subject for a book – how do some manage to slip through the evolutionary net?
Blimey, that interviewer obviously thought she had to get her voice across to where Richard actually was! It’s a bit like when people speak on a mobile phone sometimes. The whole world and it’s mother can hear them!

I thought she was alright actually, even if she did pursue him a bit.
Some people are a bit unsure when it comes to technology. I wouldn’t have called it screaming, just speaking loudly to ensure he can hear her, and so she’s clear.

What an awful interview!
I greatly despise Richard Dawkins (and people like him) for the three main reasons:
1.) He offends people who don’t agree with his theories or have different opinion than him. This tells you THE MOST about the man. No need to explain further.
2.) His main intention is to enforce his own theory over other people’s religion believes. Why on earth would he want to do this? Let’s think about it. He makes money by doing it.
3.) His career is based on scientific theories but he is not even a scientist. He clearly has no knowledge in this field; he uses scientific facts just to sell books.

1. offense is in the eye of the beholder. If people are offended because he doesn’t agree with their ideas, despite presenting a rational argument, then that suggests something lacking in the person offended, rather than the one doing the offending.
2. I like to think that he wants us to share his belief and become more enlightened. on the opposite side of that particular coin, churches make no money? really? a random google here – http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/theodore_dreiser/church_and_wealth_in_america.html I could go into televangelists, or any other religion and their finances. yes he’s made money from selling books

Do the readers of Jackanory write the material? Nope. Richard brings simply brings the subject matter, by means of massive research, to the forum for discussion. And as he’s not affiliated to any particular newspaper or Channel, he can be as biased as he likes. It’s his opinion, based on whatever. It’s his opinion. You may have another, I may have another, but it doesn’t stop me from reading a range of opinions on matters. I often learn that way that, actually, I know bugger all at times.

Although I’m not the biggest fan of Dawkins (don’t worry, I won’t rant,) this is the second interview I have seen where I have felt truly sorry for him. I don’t know whether or not that bizare woman has something against him or is just HARD OF HEARING!!!!!!……..But she did seem to be acting pretty aggressively at the start of the interview (Did anyone notice how she looked straight at the camera when she said ‘irrefutable evidence of a supreme being’?)
“Remember dear, you need to leave your feelings at the door. This is an interview, not a debate…We just need you to ask the questions, and receive the answers.”

Religion is a choice of each individual. I don’t believe in god but the next guy can believe in whatever he wants. Nothing to do with me or anyone else, besides him. I hope that’s clear.
Now, why would anyone bother to persuade people that something they believe in doesn’t exist? For myself, I can tell you that I have far more important things to do in life than to bothering with OTHER people’s religions.
But he earns money by criticizing others peoples believes and offending people that have different opinion on religion. I have zero respect for people like him.
