Never let it be said that Derren Brown isn’t a stylish guy. However recently his appearance has been getting worse. So Phillis and Abeo gave him a good make over. We’re pleased with the results.
You may have seen the above in the advert for the next event. In How To Control The Nation, Derren will explore the techniques of subliminal messaging with Derren concluding the night’s Event by attempting to make viewers stuck to their sofa, using a film created especially for the show. Derren will be playing with the idea of suggestion and the power of the mind. It’ll be an interactive experience, with viewers able to phone Derren on the night to relay what happened to them. Of course, before he starts Derren will ask viewers to place their phones next to them on their sofas.
Derren says: “The second show is a piece of media which will be played to the viewing nation – that will have the effect of rendering them immobile. Not all of them, but it will basically stick a lot of people to their seats. It’s safe, it won’t work on everybody, but it’s applying what I do one on one with people on stage and turning it into a piece of technology that can then be broadcast – and it has never been done before.
“I think there’ll be quite a wide range of responses. I’m sort of experimenting with mass influence and suggestion in the current live show that I’m doing, and this idea came from that work. It’s perfectly safe, though. People will be able to call into the show – we’ll be telling people to keep their phones within reach – and I’ll be talking to some of those people during the show, so I’ll be able to find out how viewers have reacted.

What if the tv or something in the kitchen set on fire, a few minutes may be too late. Would you be able to get up if you smelt smoke or heard a smoke alarm. Of course there is a very low probability of this happening, but you maybe open to potential lawsuits there. Just a small concern. Good luck tho, and will be tuning to see how it goes!

Nutters will phone CH4 tonight and say they got stuck to their chairs, even when they haven’t.
Just one cotton pickin’ moment here. Call me suspicious or paranoid even; but do I sense a double bluff going on? The subject of Friday’s show is ‘How to Control the Nation’, right? To be demonstrably controlled we would need to do something outside the norm, right? What would be the norm whilst watching DB’s fascinating performance? Could it be glued to the sofa? So what are we all going to do when Derren asks us to get OFF the sofa? If we all stand up ‘en masse’ would we then consider that we had been controlled perchance? Just a thought.
It doesn’t take Derren to convince me that I am physically unable to rise from my sofa – just a hard day at work!
I am having an internal debate about whether or not to watch this at my mum’s, as I am usually there until about 9.30 on a Friday, but she’s 66 and I’m not sure she’ll be entirely happy about it.
I am, however, convinced that I am impervious.
To “mobility impaired”: you are impaired because of a physical problem, right? If I told you I could make it all better by getting you to watch a TV programme you wouldn’t believe me. So why would you think watching a TV programme would make it any worse?

Didn’t they used to use Subliminal messaging in adverts by using quick flashes on certain drinks/foods back in the late 70′s or early 80′s? Then it was banned…

LOL! On a serious note though, I watched this part of the program with my jaw on the floor. INCREDIBLY powerful suggestion. Indescribably brilliant. I can’t get over the extent to which you essentially changed their personalities (let’s face it, tramps don’t usually get a lot of money without the guilt trip treatment) simply by introducing them to symbols of generosity. Icredible to behold. You derserve hearty congratulations on your latest work, and I can’t wait for next week!

@ James FINALLY, someone who gets it! I’m fed up of all these people saying Derren’s ‘fake’. Um, isn’t that kind of the point? He’s an ILLUSIONIST; and a very good one!
I have to say that although i like Derren Brown and the show i was a bit put-off with the money stunt. I want to know if there were suggestions to only give away what they could. I mean, basically what you did was con people out of a lot of money and then give it to charity. It’s stealing, plain and simple and at no point in the segment did i see you mention anything but “give massive amounts” (and shoes)… nothing about “give what you can afford to”.
Imagine if someone you know (who was susceptible to this stuff) was out that day and buying something for a loved one and had gotten a large sum of money out of the bank to buy it only to give it away and then not have the money to buy that thing? Sure, we don’t need all this materialistic crap but shouldn’t it be an unaffected decision?
Im sure I saw Derren dressed as a tramp when I was working in the Harlequin. Could have just been a regular tramp, it’s been a while
