I do already have this on my PC, bought from that Audible company, which I was annoyed with cos I couldn’t do anything with it after (like put it on an MP3 player, etc). I don’t really want to have to pay for it again via i-tunes and stick it on my i-pod which I hardly ever use!
But I have also pre-ordered the ‘Extracts from Tricks of the Mind’ CD from Amazon which is due out in November. So am very much looking forward to that one and putting THAT on my mp3 player instead!

I have to say, I am a certified hypnotherapist and have spent many years studying stage hypnosis, and i can honestly tell you that the information presented here is as good as you will get anywhere.
It\’s honest, and tells you exactly what hypnosis is and is not, it also strips learning hypnosis down to it\’s most basic, yet most effective techniques.
So many hypnotists (particularly those selling you “courses” for hundreds of pounds/euros) will make hypnosis out to be what it really is not, this gives it to you straight and cuts out the BS.
One of the best things I ever read on the subject.
Gladly bought. My ears are in for a treat, and no mistake.
Perchance, I may use my new found esoteric skills to hypnotise some of of Derren Brown’s more extreme groupies, to please stop being so rude towards those that follow a faith.

All for the audio book but wondering why, when Derren is a Brit and so would imagine most of his fans are, would we ‘go along with the US spelling’ of hypnotise and even have to explain why it was spelt wrong. Odd!

because whenever i read the book i always get tripped up and read the same line twice or something like that, and then when i read it i forget were im up to the next time.

I was planning to do it – but the last time we set up to do it I was so drunk I made a mess on the recording booth floor and was banned from returning. Sound engineer guy was cute though!

That’s the CD pre-ordered. Along with another copy of the book. My original copy of the book is in the storage of a friend who’s just gone to University. I won’t be seeing that again. But it’ll be a nice package to get through in the post!
Out of interest, why is it “Hypnotize like Derren Brown”? Why add “Derren Brown” to the title? I assumed, considering that it’s his blog that it was about him

Well, Derren, Do you think You will tell us how in such a short time you did the “Zebra crossing trick” I know it was a long time ago. but ever since I watched that episode of the “Zebra crossing” I have been an avid study of NLP and various forms of Hypnosis.
Please Please tell me how you in less than 30 seconds managed just by tapping her left foot. 3 times. got her to believe that she couldn’t move her feet? Episode one series 1 “Tricks of the mind.”
I too would love the whole TOTM book as an audio book …. i’ve had Hypnosis, Magic and Memory on my generic MP3 player for a while now – and it’s great – In fact – I should be on commision as I recommend it to someone at work almost every day!!

You could also train as a hypnotherapist to learn how this works

Enjoyed the cafe scene… I have spent the summer working on putting people to sleep on benches in the high street then walking off as I thought this would be something different for youtube…
Odd how numerous people come up with the same sorts of ideas at the same time. Like when TV ads for different companies come out with very similar ads simultaniously (which seems to happen frequently).
It’s a shame The Events are coming to an end. I have these audio tracks & love them. I look forward to hearing what is next…

Brilliant book! Read it through. Would like to know more about derrens views on religion however. Im a non-believer and i cant understand how people can believe things with absolutely no evidence or proof to back it up!

I think the person who’s mobile number comes up on screen during the ad promoting the next show isn’t too happy getting lots of calls…!!! My girlfriend called her and she said she’s been getting lots of calls since last night.
Wonder if the number is going to remain in the ad all week? Random unexplained phone calls day and night? That could get really irritating!

@Joe Steer – Yeh, noticed that too – blowing up the rubber ring in that Actimel ad, or whatever it is. And there was another one. But the mention of Krispy Cremes in a previous Twitter from Derren was the clincher for me. I woke up, sat up and knew I’d to think doughnut shape.

The original spelling – and the one cited in the OED – is hypnotiZe as this comes from the original Greek via Latin. In fact this spelling was the predominant one in britain until the mid 1940s with the -ise variant in the minority until then.
The -ise ending is believed to come from the adoption of french-style (Anglo-Norman) spellings by the aristocracy to make them look posh.
(This is not true of all -ize/-se words as some come from a Latin root that does have the ‘s’. The common example being “compromise” from the latin “-misser”.)
