Nigeria is mad at Sony for its latest ads that suggesting a lot of SCAMS come from the country. Heaven forfend! In the ad, a corporate rumor-squasher (read: PR spokesbot) responds to a rumor-mongrel’s (read: pudgy gadget blogger) request for comment about a tip he got about a PS3 price-drop. “You can’t believe everything you read on the Internet. Otherwise I’d be a Nigerian millionaire by now.”
In response to this false, defamatory and confidential claim, Nigeria demanded an immediate recant. “Nigeria also demands an unconditional apology from Sony Corporation for this deliberate negative campaign against the country’s image and reputation,” said a spokesman for the Nigerian government.

We’re a misunderstood bunch!
What does Vuuv mean? or did I miss some letters
I wonder if Nigeria has considered demanding unconditional apologies from its scammers for their negative campaign against the country’s image and reputation.
Hey, the truth sometimes hurts.
We at Sony Corp are more than happy to respond. Please send donations to my account below and I will ensure a rapid response:….
I posted that last comment on the Atheist post but it appeared here, thats not right!
I see theres a hidden message here too, Im rubbish with cryptic clues like this!!
Right…
“Nigeria also demands an unconditional apology from Sony Corporation for this deliberate negative campaign against the country’s image and reputation”
P.S. Please include your name, address and bank account details.
More proof, if it were needed, that the world has gone “politically correct” crazy. Can’t anyone take a joke anymore!!!
If I was Sony I’d send the contents of my spamfilter back to the Nigerian Government by way of response.
If the cap fits…
Perhaps if Nigeria were to forward some funds required to grease the wheels of the Sony Apologo-matic?
But come on, seriously Nigeria… Wake up and smell the 419.
I remember replying to one of those once with an hilariously witty letter, suggesting perhaps that they may have got teh wrong person, but I’d obviously more than happy to help them out, should they be completely legit.
I’ve still not heard back.
I hope they’re ok.
Dave
Perhaps the Nigerian Government are unaware of http://www.419baiter.com/
I have had a lot of first hand experience of Nigerians, and in the interests of trying not to appear racist, etc, i gave some of my close Nigerian friends the benefit of the doubt on many occasions.
Needless to say they were indeed scammers, and i ended up with egg on my face and looked like a fool, while they sit there laughing at the “silly white person”
Crazily enough, this happened on more than one occasion. More fool me. Never again will i tiptoe around anyone and keep believing the best in the name of trying to appear friendly and “not racist”.
Nigerians are the biggest scam nation. Period. (there is a website called 419eater.com which is great for a laugh)
I’m waiting for the Scottish/Libyan thing to kick off. I guess I won’t find it funny when my own country’s the butt of a milion jokes. Gulp. But yeh, what can you say, Nigeria does seem to be the epicentre of email scams. And I think a little bit of humiliation works quite well actually. We might not like finding out what others think of us, but it does make us reflect on our behaviour. And doing it in a lighthearted way and not going all-out to destroy is ok in my book. We should be able to laugh at ourselves – and others. But then I’m not known as a very PC person and some of my jokes will definitely offend.
if they really wanted to be cocky they could take that to court couldn’t they for false advertising?
Did the fish scam..opps sorry I mean scam opps again..SCAN originate from Nigeria too??
Ohh boo hoo. It doesn’t even come close to making up for all the spam email I get. I swear, if I get another email telling me I win millions from a country with a lower GDP than what they are telling me i have supposedly won… Im taking down their mail servers with brute force.
Nigeria must be a poor market for Sony products so they thought, ‘what the hell, let’s slag them off as we won’t lose any significant sales, but will make everyone else laugh’
and this…

Amusement at it’s best but it’s true innit. lol
? They missed out on something apparently …
Hahahaha! Truth hurts!
Right well I want a $1 for all the jokes about The Englishman, Irishman and Australians who walk into a bar..
Seriously? An apology.. an unconditional one?
I unconditionally apologize that you have no sense of humor. Love Sony.
check this out, same lottery numbers drawn two weeks in a row in Bulgaria…

did derren test out his balls there first then just leave them there?? x
Poor Nigerians are worried about having an image problem?
They should hire Gordon Brown as president so as to distract from the scammer problem.
Can’t believe everything you read on the Internet? Indeed.
Like the post before with the fish, enough people will come up with all sort of strange things with the same data.
Or maybe a few too many people are seeing though some of Derrens stunts and he’s covering…
As a Nigerian it can hard going sometimes having people think you’re crooked when you know you’re a decent person … sadly it would appear as though a few bad apples have spoiled the bunch. And on the subject of that AWFUL fish parasite thing, I am still having nightmares EEEK!
typo I meant to say “it can be hard going…” blah blah
They are cross about District 9 as well. I think it’s just their time of the month.
I don’t know about the rest of the stuff, but I’m just happy to see Colin Fickes (the guy asking about the price of a PS3) on TV again – even if he’s only doing Sony & TGI Fridays commercials….He’s a really good actor.
I don’t know if any of you outside of America get/watch the show One Tree Hill, but he played Jimmy Edwards. He was he star in the most touching, tear-jerking episode of the whole series (Season 3, Episode 16 – the shooting episode).
I heart Colin Fickes…. But Not as much as Derren, of course! OK, get back to what you were all doing….
Not all are Nigerian. For example, Mr Abdul Musa, who holds the very important position of “MANAGER OF AUDIT & ACCOUNTANCY DEPT” at the African Development Bank, is from Burkina-Faso, Mr Murat Arif is from Oman and, though Ken Robert sounds like he comes from Huddersfield, he is also from Burkina-Faso.
They could be lying of course but why would they?
