The battle-scarred gangsters of Japan’s most infamous underworld group, the Yamaguchi-gumi, are being forced to study for an exam covering the key aspects of their trade.
Gang bosses have introduced the written tests for their subordinates since the Anti-Organised Crime Law was revised last year, making the group’s leaders responsible for the actions of street-level members.
In September 2008, two top members of the Sumiyoshi-kai underworld group agreed to pay Y97.5 million (£640,000) to the relatives of a man shot dead when three gunmen opened fire in a bar in Gunma Prefecture.
Three customers were killed when the gangsters tried to assassinate a rival gang boss – who survived the attempt on his life.
Police discovered an exam paper containing 12 questions on appropriate action in a given situation that a gangster might find himself involved in as they investigated the murder in Shiga Prefecture of a member of a gang affiliated with the 40,000-strong Yamaguchi-gumi, which is based in Kobe.

we can only learn from this.. XD
That’s possibly the best thing I’ve heard in a while. Good to see education getting a boost…
ooh ooh i spot a (very tenuous) rabbit…
O-Ren: You didn’t think it was gonna be that easy, did you?
The Bride: You know, for a second there, yeah, I kinda did.
O-Ren: Silly rabbit.
The Bride: Trix are for…
O-Ren: …kids.
“Trix Rabbit” was a sleepy-eyed white rabbit, mascot of the General Mills breakfast cereal, “Trix”, since the 1960s… and O-ren implies The Bride (pictured here) is said white rabbit. Told you it was tenuous! Just thought I’d mention it though… just in case
</film geek^gt;
That really would be the coolest exam ever.
Feck Maths and Science, Assassin Studies is the way to go!!!
Weird news.
I do wonder why only the family of one of the people that got killed got such a huge amount ..
They remain gangsters ofcouurse, exam or no exam.
@thecolinrocks – You’re still holding out for the rabbit too huh? I hope it helps to decode The Events in some way because right now it’s doing my head in!
I don’t know whether or not to hold out any hope of working anything out, cos I’ve no UV clues on my poster. But I still look out for the bunnies and the palindromes. If there are film or games references involved, then I am fecked cos I’m not a bloke/anorak – notice how I lumped you together there?
@thecolinrocks I’ve been doing the same thing on every post, trying to find a link to a rabbit :S none worked
and my poster stares at me at night like “mwahahahahaha! I shall never reveal my rabbit secrets to you!” damn derren
@thecolinrocks – That was the first thing that jumped into my head when I saw this picture too.
@codifier, Coocumber – I’m starting to see hidden messages in everything… letters floating out of newspapers… white rabbits on underground posters for art galleries… brain constantly ticking over! I blame Phillis, personally!
JayKay – haha thank you for lumping me together
In other news, just seen The Boat That Rocked, cool film.
Bit like the other day then when I opened up my magazine only to see this humungous advert for Cadbury’s Caramel!! (remember, the lady rabbit?)
LC x
@ thecolinrocks – as long as you know your place.
Did you all spot the call to action in How to Win the Lottery?
DB’s language whole programme is littered with “you”, “together”, “Wisdom of Crowds” and note that during Heads or Tails the “red team” was assembled, and he also sent his automatic writers on a team building exercise.
And the statement:
“Perhaps the key to predicting the lottery lies in the hands of groups, of you, working together…” [he stumbles over the phrase "of you" and motions to the viewer]
Do you see where I’m going with this?
What if someone flunks?? Does he get a re-test??
@codifier – are you thinking that we all have to work together to solve the mystery of the UV posters? Like maybe some people have different stuff on their posters to others and we have to piece it all together to get somewhere?
Is that not what’s kinda been happening anyway? There have been a lot of good bods posting stuff and their ideas anyways on youtube etc.
@LairyT – yes, that’s what stood out to me when I re-watched the show and paid careful attention to the language being used.
I think this is one of the general principal of ARGs (Alternate Reality Games) – working together, the players move at the speed of the fastest member.
I might be imagining things – but I have a sneaking suspicion that every sequence in The Events, every scrap of information on this blog, and every tweet from DB and his lovely team is potentially in play.
Even during the lottery draw itself – I didn’t pick this up myself but another commenter pointed it out to me. While he was standing there next to the TV waiting for the draw:
“The balls are down… I will be TALKING TO YOU THROUGH THEM”
and
“The balls are down and delicate…”
Delicate? That word doesn’t belong in that context at all!
The first time you listen, your brain dismisses them as a verbal slip-ups and consciouly remembers what you think he meant – not the actual words he used. But, the actual words spoken are still floating around in your mind below the surface.
Seriously, I’m not making this up – please re-check the audio if you’re doubtful.
@codifier – yeah i had been wondering about various “red” references, and whether he was stressing words all throughout The Events. There were also multiple “flashed” messages on the stuck-to-your-seat episode, which I’d hoped to look into closer, but I don’t have any of the episodes recorded
@LairyT – I definitely think working together is key…
I’m waiting for that white rabbit as well, whatever it is. Colinrocks, are you the guy who did the youtube video I put in my blog?
AndyWaite – Hiya, yeah that was me… my first ever youtube post! I’m also on twitter if you fancy swapping theories…
PS – oops, forgot this PC posts as “colinrocks” not “thecolinrocks” – I’m one and the same
Some of us UV poster people think the key is in the teamwork. DM me on Twitter and join our group if you are a believer too.
@codifier – would like to talk to you, pls DM me then can email you.
Colinrocks – I’m Andywaitey on Twitter, I’ll look you up.
there’s the plot to an manga/anime in here somewhere. Yakuza High School. the oral exams are killer. literally.
If I’m any use, if you click on me it’ll take you to Twitter.
Anyone tried the games site everyone signed up for? Maybe there’s something under Manhunt there? I didn’t sign up, plus I’ve got rellies down, so I really oughta get off the blog and be polite. Or maybe there’s something under one of the customer reviews on Amazon for Alice and Wonderland? Might be an idea? Good luck on the hunt. I must get back to nibbling snacks and watching the Usual Suspects for the thirty fifth time!
Or watch out for a post with Russell Horton or something from the Twighlight zone..?
I’m wondering if this rabbit is … noticeably big. Quite scaled up, as it were. Making other rabbits look quite small, if you catch my drift. Maybe ate a cake labeled “EAT ME!”?
If it is I have a possible lead (currently a dead end, but hey you know how that can go)…
‘Curiouser and curiouser’, said Alice.
