If you don’t know who Octomom is then you’ll be surprised to know it is Nadya Denise Doud-Suleman Gutierrez, an American woman who came to international attention when she gave birth to octuplets in January 2009. The Suleman octuplets are only the second full set of octuplets to be born alive in the United States.
Surprisingly Suleman became pregnant after being artificially inseminated by Michael Kamrava, a fertility doctor from Beverly Hills. Public reaction turned negative when it was discovered that the single mother already had six other young children, also conceived via in-vitro fertilisation and was not financially independent.
The American Society of Reproductive Medicine has now expelled Kamrava from its organisation. Although this won’t stop him practising medicine, it should send a strong message to prospective parents about how fellow fertility doctors view his actions.

Wait, so because he’s highly effective at what he does, he’s being expelled by the professionals who wish they were as effective….. No I understand that he should’ve used some judgement in whether or not to help her here, but If she was a paying patient, who is he to deny treatment, even in an elective situation. I think the real people to blame here, should be those who paid for this… I’m assuming the gov’t.
Michael Kamrava probably did it for the money, of course he shouldn’t have done it,.
And ‘no’ he is not ‘highly effective at what he does’, the procedure itself is not difficult at all and performed by many doctors. Implanting that many embryos is a risk for the mother as well as for the fetuses. This doctor is an idiot that should have known much better.
Well, I don’t know any of this story’s participants personally, and worse, my brilliant-at-judging-people-through-news-media-oscope is on the blink. Consequently, in my mind right now,
* they could both be evil monsters, or
* one of them could be an evil controlling monster over the other, or
* both of them could be truly beautiful, enlightened guiding lights for humanity or
* SHOCK: there’s something else possible that isn’t any of the above. (SHOCK should say DULL, but this is not the game.)
Thankfully I can trust that news media will tell me.
In Britain you have to prove yourself to be both financially and emotionally able to provide for any child born from fertility treatment whether you are paying yourself or having NHS treatment. Either America doesn’t have similar ‘welfare of the child’ guidelines in place or this doctor ignored them. If he ignored them then he should be ‘punished’, for want of a better word, in some way, but if there are no guidelines then it’s an ethical issue and therefore not so easily dealt with. Whether paying or not it is the welfare of the future child not the welfare of the patient which is priority. This clearly wasn’t the case here.
Well she’s clearly financially dependant enough to afford a shedload of IVF!
Frank – the problem here is not the success rate of the doctor, or even in who he treated. The problem is the way the fertility treatment was carried out- assuming the woman had some sort of ovulation induction which over stimulated the ovaries, hence having 8 fertilised eggs. The potential danger to the health of the woman and her unborn children (and also her existing children if anything had happened to her) would usually be seen as way too high to allow this to happen.
Nadya might now contribute something back to the taxpaying society that fed her compulsion to lie to get what she wanted. A scientific report of her and her children’s lives would be valuable, as there are very relevant common womens’ issues involved here. Dr Kamrava will be fine.

Yet another ‘celebrity’ I wish I wasn’t aware of. With regards to her ‘reality show’, the contract was rumored to have included each child earning $250 a day. She’s already got her kids out working.
Why would you risk your life having eight babies when you’ve already got six? It’s as though she thought her other children weren’t good enough! Having even one baby is a blessing, but if the woman was too selfish and greedy to see how fortunate she was to have six children, when some people out there can’t have any, then she shouldn’t be allowed to have kids at all!
I love my kid.. but seriously: if I had 14 kids, and 8 of them were babies, I’d shoot myself! OMG!!!
I think she can do whatever she wants, those kids are well looked after, and she loves all of them, and it’s noone’s business how many kids she wants to have. Leave her alone!
If me and my wife had artificial insemination and got 8 babies from it. And I waited for those 8 babies to grow up so they could get married and have artificial insemination, each one having 8 babies (that’s 64 babies in total, all my grand chilren). And I wait for all 64 to grow up and get married, have IVF and each have 8 babies themselves (that’s 512). At that rate, my great great great grandchildren would inherit the Earth there’d be so many of them. Yet another way for me to take over the world. Interesting.

Why do we keep giving this woman publicity? If we all ignored her and the money dried up, she’d have to face the fact that she’s brought these children into the world with barely a snowflake in hell’s chance of being able to look after them. Then at least they might be taken into care, and hopefully adopted by people who don’t have children just to get rich and famous. Right now all we’re doing is legitimising what she’s done.
Yeh, she is a pimp. She’s had these kids to live off them. They are feeding her. And thankfully for those babies, currently the media is interested in them. i hope they, for the sake of the kids, that the interest continues. What will happen when the finances and her hormonal high crashes? Teenagers aren’t so cute to film. 14 teenagers aren’t so easy to handle. No right mind thinks this is responsible surely?

And docs should be looked into for ‘doing things for money’. There should be one thing on a medical practitioner’s mind and that’s the health of his patients.
I wonder how many helpers she has had and has, she looks a bit too young and rested to have that many kids. She’s not really the parent perhaps. But hey .. I don’t them. But I am against this type of situations for sure. Can name a few more.
