The wonders of modern technology never cease to amaze me, it wont be long before whole bodies are replaced by machines and just the brain is kept. Well, it’s a radical idea but I can see it happening in the future.
amazing! I hope they can refine this technology and make it slightly more managable for everyday use.
My son was born without his right hand and has rejected prosthetics and hooks as he rightly reckons they don’t give him any sense of touch (and take away what is there)
I hate to think of the cost though!!
Cool! Lot of crushed cans and such otherwise probably, among other things. And it looks better than a hook. The guy is probably used to it, but lots of people not ofcourse.
How terrifying for him to lose his hand in this way, but how lucky to have been given this amazing chance. Hopefully it will go halfway to making up for what’s happened to him. I wonder when we will be able to trigger our own tissue-regenerating mode. All fascinating.
@Emma Springer, I guess it works like normal hands work via nerves. Nerves are basically like wires carrying electrical impulses to the brain so I would guess that the robot hand is wired into the nerves and pressure on a part of the hand provides an electrical impulse which can be detected by the brain as feeling.
a year or two ago, I saw this open uni program that was discussing nano technology and biological computer chips (I think) – it led me to thinking that the human body really is a highly developed biological robot/computer – it’s just that we haven’t got far enough yet to understand this. Everything will become possible and, maybe we’ll eventually come full circle and discover we were all invented by microsoft ( which explains the imperfections ).
WOW! Science and research never ceases to amaze me!

Amazing. Quote ‘when I grab something tightly I can feel it in the hand’ . Happy Days I think for this young boy!xx
I don’t know how a robotic hand can feel. This just doesn’t make sense to me.
This is brilliant
But, please, no AI….

wow, nxt thing will be taste.

This is practically Dan Dennett’s wet dream.
Now the orgasm!

That is incredible.
Give it 20 years, wonder what we’ll have then!
Wow, that’s fantastic!
On reflection……….If it improves or regains some independance then it can’t be a bad thing!

just think about where this could take us in science and artifical limbs
Sounds better than the real thing…looks cool too
a real ice-breaker at parties haha
Once again Derren’s blog has amazed me love it xx
