a year or two ago, I saw this open uni program that was discussing nano technology and biological computer chips (I think) - it led me to thinking that the human body really is a highly developed biological robot/computer - it's just that we haven't got far enough yet to understand this. Everything will become possible and, maybe we'll eventually come full circle and discover we were all invented by microsoft ( which explains the imperfections ).

@Emma Springer, I guess it works like normal hands work via nerves. Nerves are basically like wires carrying electrical impulses to the brain so I would guess that the robot hand is wired into the nerves and pressure on a part of the hand provides an electrical impulse which can be detected by the brain as feeling.

How terrifying for him to lose his hand in this way, but how lucky to have been given this amazing chance. Hopefully it will go halfway to making up for what's happened to him. I wonder when we will be able to trigger our own tissue-regenerating mode. All fascinating.
