We’ve had plenty of requests to help the people of Cockermouth – please help in any way you can even if it’s just to tweet @doorman911 to give well wishing thoughts. A charity donation page has been set up by The Cumbria Foundation for donations – Alternatively you can send a cheque made out to Cumbria Community Foundation to: Cumbria Community Foundation, Dovenby Hall, Cockermouth CA13 0PN. Please write on the back ‘Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund’.
We’re keeping an eye on the BBC News.

Thank you so much for this! I’m from Cumbria (well, my Dad is) and it’s wonderful to see people supporting everyone back home, however sad their situation is. Poor Cumbria
Thank you for posting the link Phillis – heading over there now x
Ah this is so sweet, I live and work in Cockermouth, that’s my office right there on the video
I didn’t think I could love this site any more.
I live in Cumbria, just south of Cockermouth and Keswick, my brother was flooded in Portinscale, and my sister was flooded in Threlkelled. The rain is meant to get worse, I just hope things get better.
Well… not get worse, worse compared to yesterday when we had a little break from the rain, but tonight and tomorow is meant to rain heavy all day.
This happens in England too o.o
Anyway, expect more, larger scale flooding.
Although about 2.5 hours away, we would be happy to offer accommodation to displaced people for a week in mid Wales. We can offer a double ensuite and a twin ensuite till 26th (Thursday) Can anyone put me in touch with the relevant authority? This is a free offer of course.
Thank You everyone. I live in Cockermouth. We just didn’t see this coming but it is reassuring to know of your support. if you can’t donate – don’t worry… instead come and visit when things are back to normal! Spare room at mine if you’re really stuck.
I’ve seen this on the news and it’s truly awful what’s happened up there. And it’s absolutely heart-warming how everyone pulls together at times like this. Completely lovely to see.

Another interesting note, the Bishop of Carlisle said in 2007 that floods were punishment from God for pro-gay legislation and societies tolerant attitudes.
Funny that a place called Cockermouth was flooded, maybe God has a sense of irony and a dirty mind.
To echo what Jonathan said. Please don’t stop coming to our beautiful corner of Britain. The Lake District and Cumbria rely heavily on tourism and I’d hate to think that this may put some people off. Everyone has banded together and the resilience of people has been amazing. As has the support recieved by people all over Britain.
Most areas of Cumbria have been hit by flooding not just Cockermouth.
As I’m sure many saw, a dedicated policeman lost his life when the main bridge into Workington suddenly collapsed. If you can’t donate please show your support by continuing to visit Cumbria. thank you so much for putting this on the blog. And on behalf of Cumbrians thank you to everyone for being so nice and supportive. (I hope that sounds ok.V.tired)xxx
thankyou so much for this derren and team
thanks very much

chris if u click on that link posted above all the info n contact details are on there, thanks very much
I work part time in Cockermouth and have time available to help out, who can I contact?
I think the people living there new that the quality was not that good .. from those bridges and they also knew (esp. the older ones) that the threat was not gone. If you see the small pipe which the river is in reality (I saw a picture from above from those 2 rivers … it’s hilarious in a way .. and so obvious). Normally rivers/canals should be able to take a high rise well. But as it is not nearby London or such .. money probably wont go there either for that type of management.
Good that there were not more people killed than that police man (saddest story, almost as taken from a movie although his family will not appreciate this way of looking upon it either anymore .. real life ..).
i dont have money to donate but i have lots of boys clothes in exell cond age 18mth to 3 years if this would help a mum who needs it then i am on facebook under hayley morton or my email can be passed on from this website i dont mind.
We wanted to send our heart felt sympathy to all the people of Cockermouth whose lives have been devestated by the floods. We live on the South Coast – let us know if you are in need of a complete break and would like to come and stay down here for a while.
We live a long way from Cockermouth, we live in Hampshire and are going away for a week on 28th November. We would like to offer a family or a couple who have no relatives locally that can help with accomodation, our house for a week while we are away. Anyway, if we can help in any way please email us or contact us through our website.
We live in West Yorkshire and can offer the use of a small bed room with a double bed for four weeks, if required.
We have 3 single beds almost new mattresses, 2 settees and 4 arm chairs available to anyone affected by recent flooding and un insured all for free. We are 11/2 hours east of west cumbria.
We have baby toys, some childrens clothes, an unopened set of Famous Five books waiting for a new home. If these would help anyone please contact us through this site and we would be happy to send them. Any thing else that is needed, if someone posts it we can rummage and see.
i live in a four bedroomed house in shropshire if there is a family that has been made temporarily homeless for xmas and they would like to spend it here feel free to get in touch sean .
I have womens clothes and some children clothes to donate where can i send them. Would anyone from Cockermouth like these items?
Awful what has happened. We live in Preston and visit the Lake District 2-3 times a month to get out walking. Think that there def needs to be a more diverse way of helping all the people that have been affected by this. When there are disasters in other countries, there are phonelines advertised all over the tv so people can make donations. (I had to type in ‘help Cockermouth’ into Google to find out how to donate anything).
The Lake District is a very special place and we are lucky that there is such beauty on our doorstep. Every one up and down the country who uses the Lake District from sightseeing to rock climbing, must take responsibility for getting it back on it’s feet again. Good Luck to everyone, you have our promise that we will be back there as soon as we can x
