Police spent £20,000 scouring the country for a lion, a horse and a Mr Fox following a tip off they were told had come from the ghost of murdered man. But after spending weeks on the inquiry, detectives discovered that the messages from beyond the grave suggesting that Carlos Assaf had been killed by gangsters were bogus.
Detectives initially suspected that Mr Assaf, a 32-year-old fitness enthusiast, had hanged himself in his flat. However they revised their opinion and began a murder hunt when a tantalising new line of inquiry emerged.
A group of psychics got in touch claiming a spirit has told them that Mr Assaf had been strangled after being forced to drink petrol and bleach, an inquest into the death was told. They reported seeing “a lion, a horse and the name Tony Fox in their visions”.

I think the “Detectives” should have to pay the £20,000 back out of their own pockets for listening to this rubbish in the first place.
And the beat goes on… http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1182363_psychic_cop_trainer_case_wins_landmark_ruling
It’s Allison Dubois’ Mad Tea Party.
Oh for Christ sake, and alarm bells didn’t start ringing in their heads? Perhaps it was better than their initial tip off from some Cornish dowsers; looking for a lion, a witch & a wardrobe!
I hope the police will be persuing the so called mystics either to recover costs, or to prosecute them for ‘attempting to pervert the course of justice’ or ‘wasting police time’.
I also hope that whoever took the decision to use their info is given a very stern talking to.
Bleach and Petrol? Wouldn’t an autopsy have found that to be nonsense?
You’d have thought an autopsy? Maybe there was no body (but then how would they know he’d been hanged) – don’t get it.
Sorry to sound “Outraged of Uxbridge” but what I find truly astonishing about this that after all the advances in criminal forensic science (iPlodding?) etc, they are ALLOWED to respond to “tip offs” from psychics, let alone employ them to train their staff! (See my link above)
So this is where my taxes go?
Hrrumph!
There is a big difference between psychics and mediums. For all those who bitch about psychics and are talking about mediums I would like to thank you, because if it wasn’t for you my friends and I would have gone to the police years ago, with information that has now turned out to be true, because you are so narrowminded and judgemetal we all of course must be frauds. I would like to know why you think it is ok to judge someone.
Kate, I have never been judgemetal. I take every alloy at face value.
GeoffDeGeoff, you’ll probably find that they have to follow all lines of inquiry, even if it looks bogus.
