Hurricanes hardly ever happen in Florida, at least since Katrina and Wilma gave the Sunshine State a double wallop back in 2005. And now we know why. Town Hall reports that Gov. Charlie Crist, who is campaigning for the U.S. Senate, told a group of real estate agents about a prayer note he put in the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem in 2007.
Crist’s note read: “Dear God, please protect our Florida from storms and other difficulties. Charlie.” And it seems to have worked, since Florida has avoided major storms each year since then. Even Hurricane Bill, which ultimately wound up in the Canadian Maritimes, had the good sense to bypass Florida. Charlie didn’t get to the Wailing Wall last year or this year, but he did have others leave similar notes.
So why have insurance if you have this kind of an “in” with the Almighty? During Crist’s tenure the largest home insurer, State Farm, is leaving Florida. The Sunshine State is undercapitalized by at least $8 billion if the proverbial Big One hits, leaving taxpayers and bondholders on the hook for insured losses.
Some say Crist has been lucky, while others believe he does have God on his side. But one thing is clear. The Crist/Creator model is being exported to other states, and could possibly go national, which isn’t good news for insurers.

Or hurricanes, whom will have nowhere to land.
Good Lord…. (pun intended)
So at least they are covered for Acts of God…
LOL… I’ve heard wackier theories on Florida’s lack of hurricanes over the past couple of years. My roommate and I have lived in Florida for a little over a year now and a couple of people have referred to us as good luck charms, since the state hasn’t been hit by any hurricanes since a couple of weeks before we moved in.
…Hmmm… Now, watch us get slammed after I just typed all that.
haha very random post indeed! Poor hurricanes … everyone (including God) stopping them from doing their job! lol
That will be a question I will ask the j witnesses when they come round next time. When they answer ‘yes have insurance’ , I will tell them they don’t have much faith then and shut the door. That will give them something to think about for a change! Bring ‘em on!
Insurance payouts only in your favourite fruit. Well, bananas that is..
flori-duh?
we had a local guy who did that…his car was stopped by the cops & they axed fer the usual–license, registration, insurance card (car insurance was mandatory here). so he handed the cop a bible.
I thought hurricanes were an act of god & therefore no covered by insurance.
That would make this a bit of a non story.
Waah. You could have waited a week…

Can’t wait until the day comes that we have an insurance form to fill out saying “tick here if you have God on your side ™ – God is a registered trademark of the Disney corporation”…
