Professor Mike Morwood created an international storm with his discovery of Homo floresiensis — dubbed the Hobbit because of its small size and big feet — on Flores, an Indonesian island, in 2003. The archaeologist said the Hobbits, who were only about one metre tall and weighed just 30kg, existed on the remote island until about 12,000 years ago.
Homo floresiensis is a genuine ancient human species and not a descendant of healthy humans dwarfed by disease found researchers from Stony Brook University Medical Center in New York. Using statistical analysis on skeletal remains of a well-preserved female specimen, the researchers determined the “hobbit” to be a distinct species and not a genetically flawed version of modern humans.

my precious!
Someone should tell Professor Morwood that Tolkien knew about them ages ago.
You should see my feet. I’m probably related.
Didn’t I read that the whole thing was a hoax?
Interesting. I wonder how they were developed O_o. Unusual.
They also found mini elephants there too. They suspect that living on the island caused them to evolve that way. Elephants were actually in proportion to the hominids.
Having thought. Would that not make them bonsai? Coz they could only grow within the constraints of their environment. Lol
I love the way they decided to name them hobbits.
That explains my short length.
And erm .. how many did they find and researched? Yeah, truely scientific this all sounds … (but hey .. science is known for not being scientific quite often .. you may wonder .. what is scientific ?)
Besides ..it’s not those we want to discover … what about my species?
There is an unwritten convention in archaeology that once you name something out loud you are not allowed to change it. Don’t ever say the first thing you think of.
Evolution is a beautiful thing….a giver and taker of life….just such a shame that it decided dinosaurs wuldn’t work out…i always wanted a pet Velociraptor or Deinychus or even a Baryonyx….T-Rex was too lame ha ha ha. See in evolutionalry temrs very little people just wouldn’t have worked out….everything would take doble or triple time to do.
the other helen – you’re an archaeologist too!? not fair! you said about the mini elephants before me!
I can see the creationists scrambling now…

“Didn’t I read that the whole thing was a hoax?”
If you’re reading creationist sites, you may have. They claim that everything is a hoax.
Ms. G
I believe they found remains from about ten different individuals.
Sorry HelenC I am. But I would like a bonsai elephant.
If only we could find the Elvsies now
