Most Pagans’ beliefs about God will surprise you and most Pagans are not actually witches. They do not hate Jesus or worship Satan – they don’t even believe Satan exists.
Pagans are among the newest and oldest of religions. The earliest Pagans were among the hunting and gathering peoples at the dawn of history, while today’s NeoPagans arose within the modern world and work within cutting edge businesses and sciences. If what you think you know about Pagans stems from Hollywood, sermons, or fragmentary news reports, most of what you know is probably wrong. With that in mind, here are twelve things most people don’t know about Pagans.
Find out what they are at Beliefnet
P.S Derren Brown is not a Pagan.

They don’t look very friendly! Nothing worse than being chased by a naked gang of pagans with fire sticks, i hate that!
- NOTHING worse?….. well I’m rather upset. Have you ever run a blog? it’s very similar! – Phillis
Hang on a minute… this is Christmas at my house!
- hahahahahaaaa! – Phillis
I’m a pagan and I thank you.
Derren not a Pagan?! …hehehoho
That’s the rush to the new ‘Primark’ opening in Wood Green, London!!!
Pff, Being a Wiccan used to be a phase we all had in high school. Sneaking out at night, doing crazy rituals to the lady of the moon and all. Good times.
The sacrificing of the virgin to Satan was the most fun I think…
That’s just the Scottish…
It’s a lot harder than you think; being a pagan.
I must send this to my Pagan parents. :0 They’ll no doubt love it.
Well, we can thank Christianity’s hatred of other/non belief’s for branding Paganism with that stigma.
Good show old chap.
I have been a druid for a few years now but I have always felt a pull to the traditional spirituality of our land.
I don’t like the term Neo-pagan. I’m just a pagan. After all many Kings Church christians do not get called neo-christians.
Druidry is beautiful and in no way can be considered evil. All it comes down to is others ignorance.
Greg.
We learnt about the pagan and their rituals and so forth in English Extension class last year,
and i must say, that though we did go through kilometers in depth on the topic,
i did not know ONE thing on that list.
Shows how far education goes.

So what do pagans yell at that moment of procreation……?
Or Atheists come to think of it – I guess you might get away with screaming “Big Bang!”
)
I’m a pagan and witch and have never sacrificed anything. We give thanks and honour the mother goddess and horned God. The earth is our temple and we worship nature and the moon and sun. Nothing bad there me thinks. Blessed be x x x
Although I think Paganism is irrational, it however is a far more admirable and innocent belief than that of the fallacious evil dogma’s of the Christian non-truths.
Can anyone elaborate on Phil Miles dribble? Makes no sense to me.

For years I thought Pagans were sacrifiers of creatures. Good to know they’re not.
‘P.S Derren Brown is not a Pagan.”
Of course not- he’s just a witch.
Watching the Wicker Man has always given me a strange desire to be a pagan. It’s probably best not to analyze that.
What film is the image from looks awesome
- It’s from The Annual Pagan Beltane Fire Festival in Scotland – Phillis
I love the bit at the end
“P.S. Derren Brown is not a Pagan” lmao. i wonder why that was added
lol. I wasn’t thinking that before but now… lmao
Interesting post, i like learning about things i’ve never even though about before
If that is some sort of Pagan Festival (the pic) why do they look like they’re out to lynch someone? Or is it a case of the picture not telling the entire story, perhaps?
This is an honest question…..

Msg from Abeo: It’s from Beltane Fire Festival, more info here: http://www.beltane.org/festivals/beltane
I’m the wee one at the front.
Derren, since i 1st watched your show (trick of the mind) i have been fasinated by how alot of your tricks are done, i have looked into alot of them with my own reserch, and i have started to adapt the way i think you do it, my own way, and i have made a few tricks similar to some of yours, it has my mind constintaly thinking of different ways i can play with the inside of peoples heads to make them belive im doing magic when really i am making them belive something is happening when it really isnt, i have used these tricks on my girlfreind, my freinds and my familly and nobody knows how i do them, you have been a imspiration to me and have taken my mind on a extrodinary adventure, all i can really say is thank you, hope you read this
i’m a discordian–even pagans hate me!
btw, shouldnt that be “13 things you dont know about pagans”? it would be more pagan!
christianity is an offshoot of paganism back in the day. Oh what memories///
To Lady Claire,
It is probably the celebration of Beltane – the arrival of spring, may day etc.
A bonfire is lit and people dance around, celebrating the purifying aspect of fire. They used to walk cattle between two separately situated pyres, so that the smoke would cleanse the cattle of bacteria and illness for the year. Then each person took a lit torch home to light their home fire, in honour of the dawn of all things new.
That, or its a dance in celebration of the element Fire, which purifies and signifies the spark of creation and inspiration… that sort of thing.
Hope this helps!
I’m a pagan, nice to see there’s some others here too, and good to see an article that dispels some of the rumours!
I quite literally love you for posting this, it has annoyed me severely that people think bad of Pagans, when it is probably the most pure and true religion on this planet. I am not a full Pagan but I believe in everything they stand for and think it’s terrible that R.E. in school completely skips out the subject of paganism because the text books are probably writen by a load of stuck-up christians.
Thank you Derren! x
What a crock! Each to their own though. I’m too busy getting myself ready to spend eternity in heaven to preach to you guys! You have the choice.
Thankyou Abeo & Lou Knight. Perhaps they are dancing,…..er….rather enthusiastically then! lol
Yeah, I do actually know of this festival but just thought that picture above looked like they were out to get someone to me!
But as I said, a picture can tell a thousand stories…..

Hmmm, both this article and the previous story have a mention of a certain Sabbat, the winter solstice.
Interesting… this day also has a certain meaning to myself.
By the sounds of it, it would appear that I may naturally be a Pagan of sorts. Although, I always suspected this as the case anyway.
Buddhism has many elements and views that I feel (in my own opinion) are also spot-on.
I do also try to meditate when time/circumstances allow. With a constantly busy mind such as mine, I find it beneficial to be able to shut the damn thing up on occasions.
Pax, amor et concordia.

” What a crock!…I’m too busy getting myself ready to spend eternity in heaven to preach to you guys! You have the choice”
Irony…too…heavy…knees..buckling..under ..weight..of..ignorance…CRUNCH!
Whew!! Sorry guys. I think I broke something.
Seriously, I can’t tell if this is a poe or not. I guess that’s the point of poe’s law though isn’t it?
My mum likes to call christians Pagan… technically most of their holidays were adapted originally from pagan festivals and kept the same dates to help people transition between the two more easily, to make more people convert.
It amuses me
@c00 – Wiccans don’t believe in the Devil, they believe in nature and such. Quite a fantastic religion actually even if a little dreamy (the spells anyway, the rest I agree with!)
and @ Jas – Phillis posted this not Derren. So many people make that mistake!!!
Wicca is a very interesting religion, a very friendly and natural one and misconstrued by so many people to be evil and dark. What a lot of Christians don’t know (or probably don’t want to admit) is that a lot of our holidays e.g. Christmas, Easter etc is actually based on Pagan celebrations such as Beltane and Yule (apparently so anyway.) I have lots of books on Wicca and Paganism but I don’t call myself one a i Don’t practice it.
My birthday today just to let you know……
Not all pagans believe in “magick” either. I am not a neo-pagan, just an old fashioned one. I celebrate the solstices but I’ve adapted them to fit in with my husbands largely christian family. And it’s not hard to do as most of the ‘Christian’ traditions were ours in the first place.
I don’t dress like a witch or hippy. I don’t worship any ‘gods’. But I recognise that there are energies within nature that are a whole lot bigger than us. Something hard to dispute when you look at the effect of earthquakes, hurricanes etc. To me, that is what Paganism is, the realisation that you don’t mess with nature and treat it well and it’ll do the same back (if it chooses to). And, yeah, I touch wood, salute magpies, mock spit at things I consider evil but then a lot of people do. Maybe the old pagan ways are still very much imprinted into us all
I will have to show this to everyone at my college. If I had a pound for every time someone said to me, “You worship the DEVIL?!?!” I’d be a very rich lady. Thank you, Phillis.
And thank you a-m. If I had a pound for every time someone also said to me, “So when you cast spells on people, do they work?” I’d be so rich, you’d hate me. I only cast ‘spells’ in traditional rituals, and I certainly don’t cast them on people! I don’t believe I have any magical powers, because there’s only one thing that has those; and that’s nature.
P.s. ‘Derren Brown is not a Pagan’. Yeah…suuuuure he’s not!
