The world’s longest film which lasts 150 hours and has taken 30 years to make so far is to be screened in France.
Cinematon was started in 1978 and comprises three and a half minute segments of footage from celebrities, artists, philosophers and journalists, as well as young children.
It has been filmed by Gerard Courant, who wanted to capture the thoughts of his artistic friends. For three minutes and 25 seconds, they can do exactly as they please in front of the camera.
The film, which is an ongoing project, will be screened in Avignon later this month and in Paris in January. The subjects who feature in Cinematon include film director Ken Loach, actors Roberto Benigni and Samuel Fuller, chess grandmaster Joel Lautier and former Monty Python Terry Gilliam.
Gilliam was filmed in 1985 when Courant happened to bump into him at the film festival in Deauville, France.
“He started off to one (of the cameras), then came into the shot,” Courant told The Independent. “He played with the frame, exiting and entering, and ate a 100 Franc note, making it into a little ball.

Atleast the promo poster is encouraging!
errrr youtube mashup anyone?
- hahaha… after 107 hours the You Tube logo is permanently burnt in to the corner of your retina. -Phillis
Wonderful! Would love to see this film. Will it be screened in London?
Reminds me of when me and my friends went to the cinema in our pyjamas (for charity
) We may need them for this film!
Yeah, definatly sounds far more suited to a short viewing format, rather than a marathon sit down event…
See this wikipedia article for other very very very long films:

@SickLittleTimmy thats what i said.feels like a super long collab vid lol
Are you serious, 150 hours, since 1978!! Does it really take that long to cover something or were they after a Guiness World Record, it’s gonna be interesting seeing them cram 150 hours of film into what at the most a 3-4 hour movie.
I’m sure it will be a much easier watch than Alexander…
Steve McQueen (not the actor) did a re-edit of Hitchcock’s Psycho that stretched it to 24 hours by slowing down the framerate about 15 years ago, and there were even some die-hard cinefiles who attempted to sit through the whole thing, but I couldn’t manage more than 5 minutes.
150 hours? I’m a huge Gilliam fan, but I couldn’t sit through 150 hours of footage just to get to his bit. This isn’t cinema, it’s torture.
You know you’ve stopped enjoying the movie when you start reviewing the seat you’re sitting on.
didnt we just find out in the last blog post that time is an illusion?
Are there free juice and popcorn refills and are there any toilet breaks or do I need to invest in a she-wee?
Can’t wait for the 3 hour trailer…
